Hidden gem near Simala Shrine
I really really enjoyed my stay here. The ambience is just amazing! There are only four rooms available, so book early! They have a superb garden with 7 different ways to relax-hammock, stool, chair, chair with arms, bench, reclining chair, rocking chair... All under the shade of a few talisay trees. It is by the beach, so the wind is just fantastic! One can spend the whole afternoon just relaxing at the garden with a good book or a good friend..
Just next to that is a small pondok/bahay kubo(like a small wooden hut) where they serve drinks and meals, but they were very accomodating when we brought our own meals. We also brought some raw food and they kindly cooked it for us without asking for immediate payment...(i had to ASK them for the cooking charges. So they tabulated it for cooking oil and charcoal, etc. It was only php390. I thought it was very reasonable. There were 7 of us. We used their plates and cutlery, and after we were done, they offered to wash up for us, though we were expecting to do it ourselves) They cooked sinigang with our ingredients, and grilled the bangus we brought.
They have a wide open space for people to hold parties and weddings etc, but it is far enough away from the rooms that the noise is negligible. The resort has fencing all around, so I felt quite secure at night though the public beach is nearby. The beach is accessible through a metal door, which the staff will open as per request of the guests. The beach itself is so so. It is rocky near d shore, so bring your sandals/booties. But after a few feet, it is soft and sandy, so we took off our slippers and had a nice swim.
The location of the resort is good. St Michael's cathedral and the old town square is just a few steps away, and chitang's torta is within walking distance. Alex Cafe is also within walking distance, but it was shut when we went there.
All in all, I really really like the place. The rooms are clean, the sheets are clean, there is air-conditioning(although, we hardly spent that much time in the room, cos the seabreeze was so lovely). I was actually planning to visit the Simala Shrine only, but I am glad we stopped by for an overnight at argao. It is about 15-20min away from the shrine by car. I will definitely be back!
