Well located, it is a tiny, comfortable 2-bedroom apartment with a small cuisine that I ended up not using because of the plethora of restaurants less than 5 minutes away. I totally hated hotels.com though. I totally enjoyed myself in the condominium.

Your Travel Guide to Dumaguete, Negros Oriental as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dumaguete from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers coming from Manila or other major hubs like Cebu or Davao, flying is the most efficient way to reach Dumaguete. Sibulan Airport (DGT) serves the city, with regular flights connecting it to key destinations. Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific often have daily flights. You can easily book flight tickets through Traveloka to find competitive fares, which can range from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book.

Alternatively, for those who prefer a more scenic or budget-friendly journey, land and sea travel is an option, though significantly longer. From Manila, you could take a bus to a port like Batangas, then a ferry to Caticlan or Iloilo, and then another ferry to Dumaguete. Another route involves taking a bus to Bicol, then a ferry to Samar, and finally another ferry to Dumaguete. These journeys can take upwards of 24 hours and are best suited for travelers with ample time.

If you are already in nearby Visayan islands like Cebu, taking a ferry is a popular and economical choice. Ferries depart regularly from Cebu City to Dumaguete, with travel times typically ranging from 4 to 6 hours. The fare is considerably lower than flying, often falling between PHP 800 to PHP 1,500. This option allows you to enjoy the sea voyage and arrive directly in Dumaguete City.

Best Time to Visit Dumaguete, Negros Oriental

Dumaguete enjoys a tropical climate, meaning it's generally warm and humid throughout the year. However, there are distinct seasons that can influence your travel plans. The dry season, typically from November to May, is considered the best time to visit for most travelers. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities, island hopping, and exploring the city's attractions.

The period between December and February is particularly pleasant, with slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity compared to the peak of summer. This is also when many local festivals occur, adding a cultural dimension to your visit. However, this is also the peak tourist season, so expect higher prices for flights and accommodation, and more crowds at popular spots.

The wet season runs from June to October, characterized by more frequent and sometimes heavy rainfall. While this might deter some outdoor activities, it's also a time when fewer tourists visit, leading to potentially lower prices and a more relaxed atmosphere. If you don't mind occasional rain showers and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, the wet season can still be a good time to explore Dumaguete.

Food and Dining Near Dumaguete — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Dumaguete, often called the "City of Gentle People," also boasts a culinary scene that reflects its relaxed charm and local flavors. A must-try for any Filipino traveler is *Kinilaw*, the local version of ceviche. Fresh, raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili, offering a tangy and refreshing start to any meal. You can find excellent *Kinilaw* in many local eateries and seafood restaurants along Rizal Boulevard.

Another local specialty that captures the essence of Dumaguete is *Sutukil*. This is not a single dish but a cooking method that stands for SU (Sugba - grill), TU (Tula - soup), and KIL (Kilaw - raw/ceviche). Restaurants offering Sutukil allow you to choose your fresh seafood and have it prepared in your preferred style, offering a personalized and delicious dining experience.

For those with a sweet tooth, Dumaguete is famous for its *Silvanas* and *Sans Rival* from Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries. *Silvanas* are thin, meringue-based cookies sandwiched with buttercream and coated in crushed cashews, offering a delightful crunch and creamy filling. *Sans Rival* is a rich, layered cake made with cashew meringue and buttercream. These are perfect treats to enjoy with coffee or as a dessert.

Don't leave Dumaguete without trying *Budbod Kabog*, a local delicacy made from millet seeds, coconut milk, and sugar, often wrapped in banana leaves and steamed. It’s a unique and flavorful snack or breakfast item that offers a taste of traditional Filipino cooking. Exploring these local flavors will truly enrich your travel experience in Dumaguete.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dumaguete

Dumaguete is known for its friendly and laid-back culture, often referred to as the "City of Gentle People." Locals are generally welcoming and respectful. When interacting, a simple "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) in the local dialect, Cebuano, goes a long way. Dress modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas.

Safety in Dumaguete is generally good, with low crime rates. However, like any city, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For emergencies, the local police hotline is typically 911, and it's advisable to save the contact numbers of your accommodation and local transport services.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around. For communication, a messaging app like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger is widely used. If you plan on booking local tours or transport, having the Traveloka app handy will allow you to easily book hotel rooms, flights, and activities on the go.

No towel service, crazy small room that they crammed a shower, washer, and toilet. You had to step around/squeeze by the washer to get to the toilet. You’re practically standing in the shower when using the sink. Water everywhere on floor. Ridiculous service in fixing the leak. We actually checked out after one night out of the 5 scheduled days. All they said was thank you, no sorry for the inconvenience. Plus tv has no channels. Nothing. Not even local.

Bella Condo - ROOM 220 The first thing I noticed when I opened the door was the heat and the rancid smell. The bathroom is a real problem as the entire door is covered with black mold, there is no shower curtain so the constant moisture soaks the door. There is no place to hang your towels. The sink is nasty and the floor is filthy. The main bedroom closet smells so bad I will not hang my clothes in it. The windows are also filthy. The second bedroom has a single bed in an empty room. Conclusion, The black mold is a deal breaker for me and the place overall is truly disgusting so I am going to find another place and write off the money spent (6 days pre-paid) THIS PLACE IS UNHEALTHY

The condo was nice clean. The tv doesn’t connect. The only problem is because it is across the street from a bar and on Saturday night the music was loud and went until 2 am. Sunday music stopped at 10. If you like to party perfect spot. If you want quiet don’t book on weekend. It is really close to the port and airport which is nice

Great place to stay. Only issue was the water was always shut off. I think this was due to maintenance taking place. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay here. Guards are very nice. Pool is awesome.

Nice secure building with friendly and helpful staff. There are several restaurants very close by and always tricycles around when you need a ride. The apartment is quite small and cozy, so we were happy to stay there for a short time. With just two of us, we found it perfect for our situation. Air conditioning was good, water heater worked perfectly, and having two bedrooms made it easy for us to rest. The diner across the street was very loud late into the night but the air conditioning helped muffle the noise.

It was unfortunate that the WiFi did not work during our entire 4 night stay. The owners tried several times to get it working through their internet provider. They communicated well letting us know what they were doing. A technician was going to come out on the last day but we are on vacation and unable to wait all day for the technician. Considering that the other review had the same problem with no WiFi for their stay you would expect the owner would have taken extra steps to make sure it was working for our stay. The unit is very small but it works. Lantaw restaurant across the street is good. A little bit of street noise. Can hear the live band at the bar two buildings away but not too bad. It's close to the airport. Never a problem getting a tricycle. Boardwalk is a 10 minute tricycle ride for 60-100 pesos. Didn't understand what is private about the beach. It's black sand and not where you go tan and swim. But great tide pools at low tide with many ocean creatures in the tide pools. Good sea shell collecting too. Rooftop deck has high walls but good views. A lot of water pressure and good hot water in the shower. If the owner can fix all the small issues they will do well renting this condo. I believe it's a learning curve for them. Hopefully everything will be addressed and fixed for the next renter. I hope they do well. They tried and communicated well in their attempts to fix the WiFi.

The condo was everything that we expected. Clean and comfortable. Has all the conveniences of home. The owner was very responsive to our needs and request. I asked if we could have Christmas tree and to my surprise there was a beautiful tree on the buffet for us. Any questions we had she was quick to respond back. Rooms where clean. Plenty of restaurants with in walking distance. The pool was clean and very nice. It was a very enjoyable stay. I would definitely book there again.

Well located, it is a tiny, comfortable 2-bedroom apartment with a small cuisine that I ended up not using because of the plethora of restaurants less than 5 minutes away. I totally hated hotels.com though. I totally enjoyed myself in the condominium.

No response to my cancelation request. Building had no TV because it was under construction. Unfinished construction everywhere and elevator broke down for 20 minutes with people trapped inside.

We enjoyed our stay at Bella’s condo. Bella was very responsive to our requests and needs throughout our stay. Nice 2 bedroom condo. Next to a great area with lots of restaurants and bars nearby (walking distance). We ate at nearby restaurants our whole stay. We would stay here again.

The place was really nice and clean. The toilet was a bit cramped because of the washing machine. But at least there's a washing machine. It would have been better if there's a parking space inside the condo

Perfect for a few nights stay. Enjoyed our time at the Condo. With the many security guards we felt so secure. Location wise was perfect, close to many food places and shops. Thanks!
