The most common route involves taking a bus from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao or Pasay. Several bus companies operate routes to Bolinao, with travel times typically ranging from 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Bus fares are generally affordable, usually falling between PHP 500 to PHP 800 for a one-way ticket, making it a budget-friendly option. For those who prefer the convenience of flying closer, there are no direct airports in Bolinao. The closest major airports are Clark International Airport (CRK) and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From either of these airports, you would still need to arrange for bus or private car transport to Bolinao, adding significant travel time and cost.

Therefore, for most travelers originating from Luzon, the bus remains the most practical and economical choice.

If you're coming from the Visayas or Mindanao, the most efficient way to start your journey to Bolinao is to book flight to Manila. Major airlines offer frequent flights to NAIA from cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. Once you land in Manila, you would then proceed to one of the bus terminals mentioned earlier to catch a bus bound for Bolinao.

The total travel time, including the flight and the subsequent bus journey, will be considerable, likely spanning a full day. It’s essential to factor in this extended travel time when planning your trip to Bolinao from these regions.

For travelers who prefer the flexibility and comfort of driving their own vehicle or hiring a private car, the journey from Manila to Bolinao is accessible via the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), eventually connecting to the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX). From TPLEX, you would continue on national highways towards Bolinao. The total driving distance is around 250-300 kilometers, and the estimated travel time is about 5 to 6 hours without significant stops.

Toll fees can add up, so it’s wise to budget for these as well. This option offers the most control over your schedule and the ability to make stops along the way.

Best Time to Visit Bolinao

Bolinao experiences a tropical climate, characterized by distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season generally runs from November to April, offering the most favorable weather conditions for beach activities and exploration. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for enjoying the beaches, swimming, and outdoor sightseeing. This period is also considered the peak tourist season, especially around holidays like Christmas, New Year, and Holy Week.

While the weather is at its best, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season typically spans from May to October. During these months, Bolinao experiences more frequent rainfall, which can range from light showers to heavier downpours, often accompanied by higher humidity and occasional typhoons, particularly from July to September. While this season might deter some beachgoers, it offers a different kind of appeal. The landscape becomes lusher, and the fewer crowds can provide a more serene and authentic experience.

For travelers who don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a more tranquil visit, the wet season can be a good time to explore Bolinao, perhaps focusing more on cultural sites and enjoying the natural beauty at a slower pace.

For most Filipino travelers aiming for a classic beach vacation experience, the dry season, from November to April, is the recommended time to visit Bolinao. This period maximizes your chances of enjoying the sun, sea, and outdoor activities without significant weather disruptions.

However, if you prefer a quieter atmosphere and are prepared for the possibility of rain, visiting during the shoulder months of the wet season, like May or October, can offer a good balance of decent weather and fewer tourists. Ultimately, the best time depends on your personal preferences for weather, crowd levels, and budget.

The advertised photos no longer represents the property, it is now run-down, unsafe, dirty and smells of sewage. They advertised a restaurant called Blue Mikey that is also a run-down place that is filthy! When checking in i looked over and it still had dirty pots and dishes from several days passed by appearances and along with dirt on counter. I have saw homeless encampments that looked better. Once i checked in and looked at the place i immediately turned around and left.

Weather was great. Although the resort was neglected I can see the place was great at one point. I know that they recovering from the pandemic and lack of resources were a big part of the problem, I hope they are able to bring the place back to it’s glory. It’s a wonderful property. We reserved for 2 nights but decided to leave and book at another location. Overall most of the staff were very welcoming and made you feel right at home. Food was fantastic and the chef very attentive. Their season is coming up and I hope they are fully booked for it. I would try it again a few years down the road.

The resort should close coz it"s incapable of rendering efficient service. The way the resort was advertized on line is a fraud. The surroundings are dirty, there is no water at night, the pool is damn dirty and beach is full of moss and not swimmbale. There is no personel assigned at the reception to attend to guests and there is no phone number given to guests to relay their concerns. One has to walk to the entrance to complain. The front area of our room is not lighted. we have to complain before the staff attended to it. The price is too much.Paying the resort more than P4,000.00 a night is not worth it. The way the resort styled itself, one room should cost not more than P2,000.00. I will also charge expedia for unethical advertising. The way you pictured the place could mislerad guests.....I demand for a refund of one half of my pay.

Television defective, refrigerator inside the room had awful smell, pool is dirty with soil and sand deposits, such that when you dip in and move your feet you start to see the water color changing, no toiletries. Most of the native structures were unkept for a long time and you can see deterioration. The staff are accommodating.

The kubo is not safe. The property doesn't have fence and the kubo is only covered with like laminated sack only. The property grassy. Grasses were tall and it's not so good to look in an over-all over view. The crews were good, they have good food also. I just see their sleeping quarters unsafe.

Skip this one. This is not a 'Resort.' It is bamboo kubos and very uncomfortable. Open air, mesquitoes. They have some great activities and the food was OK. But all of those were way overpriced. Chicken and rice for me and my two kids - 1,500 pesos. No drinks included. My kids didn't want to eat at the restaurant because of the prices being too high. Neither did they want to do the activities because the prices were sky high. We left early and lost what we paid for the 'resort' just to end our suffering and stop the bleeding (spending needlessly). Nice people there but pricing on everything is more than we would pay at a nice hotel in America. 'Are you kidding me?'

decided to cancell reservation on same day of arrival after seeing the sorry state of the resort. Just can’t spend my vacation in a place like that with a price like that!!!! I would like a total refund of what I prepaid for this resort. If you can not post my comments because I’m telling the truth, you denied unsuspecting tourists the benefit of enjoying their hard earned money for a well deserved vacation, it’s a ripped off for your own gain only, you’re not really giving the best service out there!!!

Pros: great service, everyone was friendly and the owners were very approachable. They told us all about the resort and their advocacies. The place encourages you to experience the sea at its natural state. The resort had a lot of hammocks in huts and rafts wherein one can lounge in at anytime. They also offer various activities like urchin harvesting, giant clam snorkeling, island tours, etc. Their beach is a sanctuary that is home to many kinds of fish (the ones you see in saltwater aquariums) as well as corals, starfish and urchins. It’s a fun-filled nature trip!!! Cons: our room needed a lot of fixing (busted bathroom light, leakage on the floor, a/c was tripping during the night) which was quite a downer for the price we paid for it. The beachfront is very rocky and the water has seagrass that reaches up to one’s waist. (This is not actually a bad thing because seagrass indicates healthy waters, but it might be a turn off for people who expect fine sand and clear water.)

I arrived to Birdland Beach Club after a 6 hour bus trip from Manila to Bolinao. Met Michael and Joanna (the owners) upon my arrival, and was promptly served a refreshing juice and an ice cold hand towel to refresh myself. Having been to 23 countries in the last 3 years.... I’ve seen the high and low of accommodations around the 🌎. This is a jewel of a property, the club sits on 4acres, with beautiful bamboo cottages with spectacular ocean views and of course.... BREATHTAKING SUNSETS. The in-house restaurant was better than just good.... it was delicious ! All ingredients are locally sourced, fresh fish, vegetables, fruit. ALSO, if you wanted something off the menu, the chef would go out of her way to make you something of your choosing. If in Philippines, and want a truly UNIQUE and memorable experience.... this is the spot. Located just 45min north of THE HUNDRED ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK, you will be happy that you took the time to go a little farther to reach the BIRDLAND BEACH CLUB. Michael and Joanna are the ultimate hosts; kind, generous, thoughtful and very informative. The entire STAFF are wonderful people, lotsa smiles, and are there to help YOU. It’s a rarity I give such a glowing review, or take the time at all. The big 3 are, Accomidations, Food, and the PEOPLE who run it. 🏆🏆🏆. If ever in Bolinao..... this should be your destination.
