Your Travel Guide to Oslob as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Oslob from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila, the most efficient way to reach Oslob is by air. You can book flight tickets to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Several airlines operate daily flights from Manila (MNL) to Cebu (CEB), with fares typically ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Upon arrival at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, your journey to Oslob continues overland. The most common method is to take a bus from the Cebu South Bus Terminal. Buses heading south, such as those bound for Bato-Oslob, operate frequently. The bus fare is generally between PHP 300 to PHP 500, and the travel time can range from 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic conditions and the number of stops.

Alternatively, for greater comfort and convenience, especially if you are traveling with family or a group, you can arrange for a private van or car hire directly from the airport to Oslob. This option offers a more personalized journey and can be faster than the bus. While more expensive, typically costing around PHP 3,000 to PHP 5,000 for a one-way trip, it significantly reduces travel stress and allows you to enjoy the scenic coastal route at your own pace.

Best Time to Visit Oslob

The dry season, from December to May, is generally considered the best time to visit Oslob and Sumilon Island. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, which are ideal for outdoor activities like swimming, snorkeling, and island hopping. The weather is consistently pleasant, making it easier to plan your itinerary without worrying about heavy rainfall disrupting your plans.

While the dry season offers the most favorable weather, it also coincides with the peak tourist season, particularly from December to February. During this period, you might encounter larger crowds at popular attractions. For a more relaxed experience and potentially lower accommodation rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months of March to May, when the weather remains good, but the crowds are slightly thinner.

The wet season, from June to November, can bring intermittent rain showers and occasional typhoons. While you can still visit during this time, it's advisable to be flexible with your plans as weather conditions can change rapidly. However, the rain can also bring lush greenery to the landscape, and you might find fewer tourists, offering a different kind of appeal for some travelers.

Food and Dining Near Oslob — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Oslob, make sure to savor fresh seafood, a staple in Cebuano cuisine. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are commonly found in local eateries and resorts. The simplicity of preparation often highlights the natural flavors of the ocean's bounty. Look for dishes seasoned with local spices and served with a side of rice and dipping sauces like soy sauce with calamansi and chili.

Another must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing and tangy dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Many local carinderias and restaurants in Oslob offer their own take on this classic dish, so feel free to try it from different places.

For those with a sweet tooth, try Halo-Halo, a popular Filipino dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It’s a delightful concoction that offers a burst of flavors and textures. You can find this refreshing treat in many local spots, perfect for cooling down after a day under the sun.

Don't leave Cebu without trying Lechon, the iconic roasted pig. While Cebu is famous for its lechon, you can find delicious versions in Oslob as well. The crispy skin and succulent meat make it a celebratory dish that’s perfect for sharing. Many local eateries offer portions of lechon, allowing you to enjoy this delicacy even if you're not dining with a large group.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Oslob

Filipino hospitality is renowned worldwide, and Oslob is no exception. Locals are generally friendly and welcoming. When interacting, a simple "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) in the local Cebuano dialect is appreciated. Respect local customs, especially when visiting religious sites or interacting with elders. Dress modestly when not in beachwear.

Safety in Oslob is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, it's always wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded places or during transfers. For emergencies, note down the local police and hospital contact numbers. It’s also a good idea to have travel insurance for added peace of mind.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigation. A translation app can be helpful if you wish to communicate in the local dialect. For booking transportation and accommodations, the Traveloka app is highly recommended for its user-friendly interface and wide range of options.

Consider downloading a weather app to stay updated on the forecast, especially if you are visiting during the rainy season. This will help you adjust your plans accordingly. Having these digital tools readily available can significantly enhance your travel experience, making it smoother and more enjoyable as you explore Oslob and its surrounding beauty.

A nice resort, the pool area however is tired and run down and in need of renovation. We spent most of our time at the beach for this reason. Rooms are lovely and breakfast and dinner is great. Very overpriced compared to the rest of the Philippines - we paid US prices for a massage but got equally as good massages elsewhere in the Philippines for 5% of the price here

Nice enough resort. Good snorkelling around the island. Black out curtains are needed for the rooms as the garden lighting is really bright. Food is ok. Good place for a couple of nights.

The property has stunning views. The staff is very nice. The rooms are very spacious and nice. I saw a few people post about the rooms being out dated, ours was very modern. We had the private pool room and for $300 USD per night it was fair for the room that includes breakfast and dinner buffett. Unfortunately the food is absolutely terrible, ive had 2 and 3 star hotels around the Phillipines with much better food. The other negative would be the price of anything you buy. To give an example a can of coke is $5.50 USD, in comparison just down the road innthe same town, at a restaurant you can buy it for $0.50. We had a wedding on the main land and they only run boats back to the island 3 or 4 times a day. I said no problem I'll find a private fisherman to take us back after hours, they wont allow that, you must pay them $90 USD for the 9 minute boat ride. In comparison i had a local lined up that was happy to do it for $10. Another thing they need to address is the communication, they have a lunch buffett, they dont tell you it's not included or even tell you a price, but when you check out its $30 USD per person and they add it to your room. For comparison an all you can eat buffett style with much much better quality food 10 minutes away is $7. We definitely won't stay here again, we wont recommended this to any of our friends. If you're going to spend this kind of money in the Philippines you might as well go to Siargo or Palawan.

The website gives an inaccurate impression of the island. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and helpful. On the negative side, I had to pay 3,500 PSP to get the boat from the mainland to the island. We had already arranged for a driver from the hotel to pick us up and get us to the mainland dock, but he didn't connect with the 2pm ferry, so we were left waiting until 4pm or pay. The whole island is infected with ants. They are everywhere, in the bathroom, the bedroom, the resturant. We paid for breakfast and dinner buffets. Neither were a buffet. Both were a very limited ala carte menu, and some of the items they had run out of. Beach is crushed coral, not sand. The hotel closed with 1 day to go on our booking due to Hurricane Kristine and made all the guests leave at 9am. This was a gross over reaction and I think was more of a commercial decision than a safety decision as there were few guests and probably not enough to make it profitable.

Very nice relaxing place to visit. Some of the most crystal clear and beautiful waters in the Philippines. Very nice infinity pool. Great snorkeling all around the island. Also decent hiking trail. Rooms are really nice, great views and very comfortable. A bit expensive but well worth it.

I didnt get offer with the membership! Also you cant really enjoy the island if you arrive later in the day because you have to leave to ride the last trip of the boat which is 4:30 pm. I think they should have A later boat too for the people who arrive late for the 2500 charge day tour!

First, the island and surrounding waters are absolutely beautiful. Second, like most all Filipinos, the staff was excellent and happy. Third, the rooms were amazing. Very beautiful and very well laid out.

We were not aware that you had to get to boat ramp by 4pm, hotel policy is checkin at 3 or later, we got to boat location and was told TOO LATE, ask for a refund for first night was DENIED, impossible to talk or find management...DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY IT IS MISLEADING about boat not traveling after 5pm even though policy states check in 3pm or later

It’s a small piece of paradise! Really liked the infinity pool facing the sea, with a tree in the middle. It’s really peaceful. Staff is great also. A few mishaps with the transportation back and forth. Just set the rate and apply it consistently.
