My husband and I, together with our 2 year-old daughter, enjoyed our stay in Bosay. The admin was very accommodating, and the facilities were very convenient. We experienced speedy response whenever we needed their assistance anytime of the day. We are considering coming back to this place, especially that our daughter had so much fun!

Your Travel Guide to Antipolo as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Antipolo from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

From Metro Manila, reaching Antipolo is quite accessible. If you're flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), you can take a taxi or a pre-booked car service. The journey typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions, and can cost between PHP 600 to PHP 1000. For those looking to save, you can book flight tickets to Manila and then utilize public transport or ride-sharing apps.

Public transportation from Metro Manila is also a popular and economical choice. Buses and jeepneys heading to Antipolo are readily available from terminals in Cubao, Pasig, and other key points. Bus fares usually range from PHP 50 to PHP 80, and the travel time is around 1 to 2 hours. This makes Antipolo a convenient destination for a day trip or a short stay for many Filipinos.

If you are traveling from other major Philippine cities, your primary entry point will be Manila. From there, you can follow the same routes mentioned above. For instance, if you're coming from Clark International Airport, you would first travel to Metro Manila and then proceed to Antipolo. Planning your connections in advance can help ensure a smooth journey.

Best Time to Visit Antipolo

Antipolo enjoys a generally pleasant climate, with cooler temperatures compared to the lowlands, especially during the "ber" months. The ideal time to visit is typically from November to February, when the weather is drier and cooler, making outdoor exploration more comfortable. This period is considered peak season for many tourists.

The rainy season runs from June to October. While this might mean fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, outdoor activities could be limited due to frequent rainfall. However, for those who don't mind occasional showers, visiting during this time can offer a different perspective of Antipolo's lush scenery. The shoulder months of March to May can be quite warm, so plan accordingly if you visit during this time.

Food and Dining Near Antipolo — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Antipolo is known for its local delicacies and unique culinary offerings. A must-try is the Antipolo specialty, Sumoroy. This dish, often made with dried fish and vegetables, offers a distinct savory flavor that is a staple in the region. You can find variations of this dish in local eateries and carinderias around the city.

Another local favorite is the Suman Malagkit, a sweet sticky rice cake often wrapped in banana leaves. It's a popular merienda (afternoon snack) and can be enjoyed with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Many roadside stalls and small shops sell fresh suman, making it easy to grab a taste of this classic Filipino treat.

For those who enjoy savory dishes, try the Bulalo, a hearty beef soup with bone marrow. While not exclusive to Antipolo, many restaurants in the area serve delicious versions of this comforting dish, especially during the cooler months. It’s a perfect meal to warm you up after a day of sightseeing.

Don't forget to sample the local pastries and baked goods. Many bakeries in Antipolo offer traditional Filipino breads and cakes. Look for ensaymada, pandesal, and other sweet treats that are perfect for breakfast or a light snack. Exploring the local markets and bakeries is a great way to discover authentic flavors.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Antipolo

Antipolo is a city that values its cultural heritage and religious traditions. When visiting churches like the Antipolo Cathedral, it's important to dress respectfully, covering shoulders and knees. Filipinos are generally warm and hospitable, so a polite greeting and a smile go a long way in interactions.

For safety, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. If you encounter any issues, local authorities can be reached through emergency hotlines.

Essential apps for your trip include navigation apps like Google Maps to help you find your way around Antipolo and its attractions. Ride-sharing apps such as Grab are also very useful for convenient transportation. For communication, ensure you have a reliable local SIM card or check your roaming plan.

Consider downloading a translation app if you plan to interact extensively with locals who may not speak English fluently, although English is widely understood in tourist areas. Having a local weather app can also help you plan your daily activities, especially during the rainy season.

I was hoping to get a good deal because I booked through hotels.com. But I discovered that I paid the same amount as the walk-in rate. Since I checked in late, I requested for a late check out; the request was firmly declined, despite the fact that we appeared to have been the only guests in the hotel! There were many pools and they were okay- teeners would enjoy the "disco pool" - but there was nothing therapeutic in the therapy pool. Lots of guests on either "day tour" or "night tour" so whether this is advantageous depends on your preference; just don't expect any Antipolo-esque nature trip here, except maybe for their captive monkeys. Breakfast was prepared beforehand, so you'll have cold food if you're late for your agreed time. Coffee was instant, while juice was Tang!
