Filipino travelers who are traveling with pets will need to make alternative arrangements for their animals during their stay at C & L Suites Inn. When you arrive, you will likely be asked to present a valid ID for verification purposes. It's always a good idea to have your booking confirmation readily available as well. If you happen to arrive earlier than 2:00 PM, you can inquire at the front desk about the possibility of early check-in.

While early check-in is subject to room availability, the hotel's luggage storage service can be a lifesaver. If you require a later check-out, it's best to speak with the front desk staff in advance. Late check-out requests are typically granted based on room availability and may incur an additional fee. If you have a late flight or bus schedule, you can again utilize the luggage storage facility to continue your exploration of Dumaguete after checking out.

Your Travel Guide to Dumaguete, Negros Oriental as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dumaguete from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers coming from Manila or other major Luzon cities, flying is the most efficient way to reach Dumaguete. Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate regular flights to Dumaguete Airport (DGT). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but you can often find round-trip tickets ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 if you plan ahead and look for deals. Use Traveloka to book flight tickets to secure the best prices.

If you prefer a more scenic and overland journey, or if you're coming from Visayas or Mindanao cities with ferry connections, you can take a bus and ferry combination. For instance, from Cebu City, you can take a bus to a port like Liloan, then a ferry to Sibulan, and finally a short jeepney or taxi ride to Dumaguete. This journey can take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours and is considerably cheaper, with bus and ferry fares typically costing between PHP 800 to PHP 1,500.

Driving to Dumaguete is also an option, especially for those coming from nearby Negros Oriental towns or other parts of Negros Island. The city is accessible via well-maintained national highways. If you're driving from Manila, it would involve a combination of land travel and ferry crossings, making it a multi-day trip. Toll fees will vary depending on your starting point and route. Parking at C & L Suites Inn is available, though limited, so confirm its availability if you plan to drive.

Best Time to Visit Dumaguete

Dumaguete enjoys a tropical climate, with generally warm temperatures year-round. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities, island hopping, and exploring the city's attractions. The weather is usually sunny and pleasant, perfect for enjoying the Rizal Boulevard or visiting nearby natural sites.

The peak tourist season often coincides with major holidays like Christmas, New Year, and the summer months (March to May). During these periods, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a more relaxed experience and potentially better rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or February. The wet season, from June to October, can bring more frequent rain showers, but these are often brief and followed by sunshine, so it can still be a good time to visit if you're looking for fewer tourists and lower costs.

Food and Dining Near Dumaguete — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Dumaguete offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects its Filipino heritage with unique local twists. A must-try is the "Sans Rival," a rich and decadent cake made with layers of meringue, buttercream, and cashews. Many local bakeries and cafes serve this popular dessert, and it's a perfect treat after a day of exploring. Another local specialty is "Budbod Kabog," a millet-based porridge often flavored with coconut milk and sugar, offering a taste of traditional Visayan breakfast.

Seafood is abundant and fresh in Dumaguete, given its coastal location. You'll find numerous restaurants and carinderias offering grilled fish, shrimp, and squid prepared in various Filipino styles. Don't miss trying "Kinilaw," the Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It's a refreshing and flavorful dish that perfectly captures the local taste. For a more substantial meal, try "Pork Sinigang," a sour and savory soup that is a staple in Filipino households, often made with tamarind broth.

For a truly local experience, explore the eateries along Rizal Boulevard, especially in the evening. Here, you can find a variety of grilled meats, seafood, and local snacks. Also, venture into the city's public market to sample authentic Filipino street food and local delicacies. Trying "Tiyula Itum," a traditional soup from nearby Mindanao but popular in Dumaguete, which features a dark broth made from burnt coconut and spices, offers a unique flavor profile that many Filipino travelers enjoy discovering.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dumaguete

Dumaguete is known for its "City of Gentle People" moniker, reflecting the warm and hospitable nature of its residents. Politeness and respect are highly valued. When interacting with locals, a simple "po" and "opo" (yes, sir/ma'am) goes a long way. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites like St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral. The city is generally safe, but like any urban area, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places like markets or during late-night strolls.

For emergencies, the local police hotline is typically 911. It's also advisable to save the contact numbers for your hotel and any local friends or contacts you might have. When using public transport like tricycles, agree on the fare beforehand to avoid misunderstandings. For navigating the city and finding places, Google Maps is indispensable. Consider downloading offline maps of Dumaguete before you arrive, especially if your data connection might be spotty.

Other useful apps for Filipino travelers include Grab, which is available in Dumaguete for ride-hailing and food delivery, offering convenience and transparent pricing. A currency converter app can be helpful if you're dealing with foreign exchange. For communication, WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used for staying in touch with family and friends. The room was dirty and extremely noisy, all night long. I don't think that it was quiet for even 20 minutes. There was a festival several km away so they double the price for an already terrible room. I have been told by people to not stay at the GV hotels in the Philippines, but I never thought I'd regret it.

The hotel staff should have been more aware of the information they need to provide to their guests, i.e. airport transfer. The receptionist could have informed us on the day of arrival that this service was available (she blamed us for not telling them - she should know that most tourists fly to Dumaguete). I asked for a quiet room - we had a room next to the main road.

Check in was OK with hideous loud colours but it is mall and has a huge square pillar in the middle of it you have to keep walking around. The WIFI did not work at all during my stay. They blamed it on the service provider and that could be true. In the early evening I wanted to pour a drink in the room but there was not a single drinking glass or cup of any kind in the room. I had to phone down to get one sent to my room. No shower mat so had to use the second towel as one to keep the floor from getting really wet. Breakfast was terrible choices and you have instant coffee packages with hot water from a dispenser. Food is sitting in tray pans over burners but burners are not lit so food is cold but they will microwave it for you if you want it. Egg station has no fixings just eggs and they will only make scrambled eggs. I went out at 7 AM the first day and got back at 4:30 PM to find my room had not been cleaned. I got a bit angry and complained to the front desk. Ten minutes later the housekeeping guy shows up and I asked him why my room was not cleaned when they had all day to do it. He said "Did you tell the front desk" and had a silly grin; almost a giggle on his face. I told him it was not funny. He said sorry sir. I got fresh towels from him and some water and told him it was OK. I was checking out the next morning never to return to this very poorly run establishment.

The room was dirty and extremely noisy, all night long. I don't think that it was quiet for even 20 minutes. There was a festival several km away so they double the price for an already terrible room. I have been told by people to not stay at the GV hotels in the Philippines, but I never thought I'd regret it.

Overall stay was fine. Very basic toiletries, just shampoo and a small piece of soap. No hot shower (which I badly needed that time), heater is broken. Aircon was good. Overall cleanliness was fine. Buffet breakfast was good.

Very quiet inside hotel. A short walk to the boardwalk and city market shopping. Numerous restaurants nearby. Across the street from the iconic Dumaguete Spanish tower

Good size room. No fridge. No hot water and coffee making facilities. But apart from that. Good location. Good value for money. But there was no fridge or coffee making facilities. I like my coffees.

Stayed here for two nights, great location, walking distance to bell tower, 7/11 in front which is open 24 hours, walking distance to Rizal Boulevard, great helpful staff always smiling , special mention to staff Geraldine , most helpful , been emailing here even before my trip & responded very quickly & gave me excellent advise & recommendations , she’s the best ! Only thing , WiFi not working too well, instant coffee & hot water should be in rooms everyday , and should offer free box l breakfast to people who leaves very early in morning ,other than that this is s great place to stay in dumaguete
