Your Travel Guide to Loon as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Loon from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Loon, Bohol from Manila or other major Philippine cities primarily involves air travel to Tagbilaran Airport (TAG). Direct flights from Manila to Tagbilaran are frequent, with travel times around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate these routes. Booking your book flight tickets in advance can help you secure better prices, with fares often ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and booking time.

From Tagbilaran Airport, you will need to arrange onward transportation to Loon. This typically involves taking a taxi or a tricycle to the Tagbilaran City bus terminal or van terminal. From there, you can catch a bus or a van heading towards Loon. The bus fare is generally budget-friendly, costing around PHP 100 to PHP 150, and the journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and stops.

For those who prefer a more direct and comfortable journey, hiring a private car or van service from Tagbilaran directly to Loon is also an option. This offers more flexibility and convenience, especially if you are traveling with family or a group. While more expensive than public transport, it can be a worthwhile investment for a smoother travel experience. Driving your own vehicle is also possible, but involves a ferry trip for your car from Luzon or other islands, adding significant time and cost.

Best Time to Visit Loon

The ideal time to visit Loon, Bohol, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower chances of rainfall, making it perfect for outdoor activities, beach lounging, and island hopping. The period between March and May is generally the hottest, so if you prefer cooler weather, the months from November to February offer a pleasant climate with average temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher possibility of rain, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged. While this season might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can also disrupt travel plans and limit outdoor activities. However, for divers and snorkelers, the underwater visibility can still be excellent during certain parts of the wet season, and the rain often brings a lush green beauty to the landscape.

Considering the balance of good weather and manageable crowds, the shoulder months of November to February are often recommended. This period offers a good chance of sunshine without the intense heat of the peak summer months. Regardless of when you choose to visit, always check the weather forecast closer to your travel date to make the most of your trip to Loon.

Food and Dining Near Loon — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Bohol, and by extension Loon, offers a delightful culinary journey for Filipino travelers, showcasing fresh seafood and local flavors. A must-try is the **Kinilaw**, Bohol’s version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer, especially when enjoyed with a cold drink by the sea. You can find excellent kinilaw in local eateries and carinderias around Loon.

Another local specialty is **Peanut Kisses**, a crunchy, heart-shaped cookie made from peanuts and flour, a popular pasalubong (souvenir food) from Bohol. While not a meal, these sweet treats are a delightful snack. For seafood lovers, grilled fish and prawns are abundant. Look for restaurants that offer **freshly caught seafood** grilled to perfection, often served with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. Many local carinderias and small restaurants will have these readily available.

take advantage of this on trying **Calamares**, deep-fried battered squid rings, a popular Filipino dish that’s always a crowd-pleaser. You can find this in many local dining spots. For a taste of something more substantial, try **Adobong Pusit** (squid adobo), a savory dish cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and bay leaves. Exploring the local markets and small eateries in Loon will give you the best opportunity to sample these authentic Boholano dishes.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Loon

For your convenience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigation. Rustig resort, goede keuken. Goed snorkelen. Lekker relaxen.

Jederzeit gerne wieder.
