To start, it's not a beach resort. You have to walk around 5 min through town to access the beach. The resort itself looks nice, the staff do their best they can to maintain it in good condition, but the management doesn't put any budget to fix broken stuff. We still got a good stay, and really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. They are great !

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The lady at the front desk was so helpful and caring. The beach is a short walk away and I enjoyed the beach. This property was very accommodating even though I brought a different number of guests than I originally booked for. If your coming from America it isn't exactly like a western hotel but I really enjoyed it anyway.

Your Travel Guide to Nasugbu as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Nasugbu from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from Metro Manila, reaching Nasugbu is a common and relatively straightforward journey. The most popular method is by bus, with terminals located in various parts of the city, such as Buendia (LRT-1 Gil Puyat) or Cubao. Bus fares typically range from PHP 200 to PHP 350, and the travel time is around 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on traffic and the specific route. Many buses are air-conditioned, offering a comfortable ride.

Driving your own vehicle is another excellent option, offering flexibility and the chance to enjoy the scenic routes. From Manila, you’ll likely take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then connect to the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway) towards Batangas, exiting towards Nasugbu. Toll fees can add up, so it’s good to budget for this. The drive usually takes about 2 to 3 hours without significant traffic.

For those coming from other major Philippine cities, the most efficient way to reach Nasugbu is often by air. You would typically book a flight to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From NAIA, you can then proceed to take a bus or arrange for a private transfer to Nasugbu. Flight prices can vary significantly based on the airline and booking time, so it’s wise to book your flight early to find better deals.

Best Time to Visit Nasugbu

Nasugbu, Batangas, experiences a tropical climate, making it a year-round destination, but certain periods offer a more pleasant experience for travelers. The dry season, generally from November to April, is considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower chances of rain, which is ideal for enjoying the beaches and outdoor activities that Nasugbu is known for.

The peak tourist season often coincides with the dry months, especially around the Christmas holidays, Holy Week, and summer months (March to May). While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices during these times. If you prefer a more tranquil visit and potentially better rates, consider traveling during the shoulder months within the dry season, such as November or February.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can range from light showers to heavier downpours. While this period might deter some beachgoers, it also means fewer tourists and more competitive prices for hotels and activities. If you don’t mind the possibility of rain and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, the wet season can still be a viable option, provided you have flexible plans.

Food and Dining Near Nasugbu — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When you visit Nasugbu, be sure to explore the local culinary scene, which offers a delightful array of Filipino flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is Bulalo, a hearty beef soup from Batangas, known for its rich, clear broth and tender beef shanks, often cooked with corn and vegetables. It’s the perfect comfort food, especially on a cooler evening.

Another local specialty is Lomi, a thick noodle soup that is a staple in Batangas. It’s typically made with fresh egg noodles, pork, and vegetables, thickened with cornstarch, and served piping hot. It’s a satisfying and filling meal that many locals and visitors alike enjoy. You can find excellent versions of Lomi in many eateries around Nasugbu.

Don't leave without trying fresh seafood, given Nasugbu's coastal location. Grilled fish, shrimp, and squid are readily available and prepared in simple yet delicious ways, often seasoned with salt, pepper, and calamansi. Pair these with a side of garlic rice and a dipping sauce of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili for an authentic Filipino seafood experience. For those with a sweet tooth, try local delicacies like Puto Bumbong or Bibingka if available, especially during festive seasons.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Nasugbu

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. In Nasugbu, you'll find locals to be generally friendly and accommodating. It’s customary to greet elders with respect, and using terms like "po" and "opo" shows politeness. When visiting local establishments or interacting with residents, a friendly demeanor goes a long way. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

For safety, Nasugbu is generally a safe place for tourists, but it’s always wise to exercise standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items unnecessarily. If you plan to engage in water activities, ensure you are with reputable operators and follow safety guidelines. For emergencies, know the local police hotline number, which can usually be found online or by asking your accommodation.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps or Waze is indispensable for getting around, especially if you are driving. The Calayo resort itself where we stayed is good including the staff, there is a swimming pool, so if you will not like to swim in the dirty sea you have the option. The downside is that there is no wifi and some of the facilities like shower, cabinets are broken.
