Your Travel Guide to Panglao, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Panglao, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers coming from Manila or other major urban centers, flying is the most practical and time-efficient method to reach Panglao, Panglao Island. Bohol Panglao International Airport (TAG) serves the island, with regular flights connecting it to key hubs like Manila, Cebu, and Davao. Flight prices can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but expect fares to range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 8,000 for a round trip. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Alternatively, you can opt for a ferry journey, which is a more scenic but considerably longer option. Ferries typically depart from Cebu City to Tagbilaran City, Bohol's capital. From Tagbilaran, you will then need to take a van or bus to Panglao Island, which adds another hour or so to your travel time. Ferry tickets usually cost between PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000, and the trip can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the vessel.

For those who enjoy road trips, driving from Luzon or other parts of the Visayas is possible, but it involves multiple ferry crossings and a significant amount of driving time. This option is best suited for travelers who have ample time and wish to explore multiple islands along the way. Toll fees and ferry charges for vehicles will add to the overall cost, making it a less economical choice for many compared to flying.

Best Time to Visit Panglao, Panglao Island

The Philippines generally experiences two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. For Panglao, Panglao Island, the dry season, which typically runs from November to May, is considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for beach activities, island hopping, and exploring the natural attractions Bohol has to offer.

The peak tourist season usually falls between December and February, coinciding with the Christmas holidays and cooler weather in other parts of the country. During this period, expect higher accommodation prices and more crowds at popular spots. For a balance of good weather and fewer people, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, April, or May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rain, occasional typhoons, and increased humidity. While you might find lower prices and fewer tourists during this time, outdoor activities can be disrupted by inclement weather. However, even during the rainy season, Bohol often experiences short, intense downpours followed by sunshine, so it's still possible to enjoy your trip with some flexibility in your itinerary.

Great place to stay near Alona Beach. Staff are friendly and the owner himself fix issues in our room. Only complain is the mirror is placed too high (to cater to taller foreign tourists it seems) and shower is too hot. But overall, a good place.

Pros - Cute affordable hotel walking distance to Aloana Beach. I liked the decor. Staff was nice. Mini bar was affordable for the area which was a nice surprise. Pool table. Cons - Bed was a little firm. I wish door had electronic lock. Electronic safe did not work so had to use key as well. This meant having to carry keys everywhere. Recommendation - If they every expand, add a gym.

We have booked and paid room, but when we arrived there, they told us on reception that they are overbooked, so they will pay for us in another resort. So they arranged acomodation in Alonaland Resort Apartelle, which is according to picture similar quality, so we had no problem with this. Alonaland was more quiet, but it was more far from the beach.

The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful. Had a minor issue with ants, but in a tropical beach area a few bugs are to be expected. Brought it to the attention of staff and they sprayed the ants right away. No further issues after that. The hotel is not too far from the beach, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. All rooms have an outside sitting area for relaxing and a place to dry wet swimsuits.

Great little hotel in an excellent position within walking distance of Panglao's main beach. Approx 2 years old and well maintained, friendly staff and a great bar to while away the evening enjoying a game of pool. With tour assistance and motor scooter hire available at the front desk this place seems to have it all. If i were to mention negatives they are minor and picky. Especially as this hotel is among the cleanest i have come across and at such a great price. Dont pass up just because it is one star short of what you would like.

Advantage of this place/inn is that its close proximity to airport(8mins), walking distance 5-10min to beachfront and close to our fave place, the Panglao Farm, where you can interact with animals.

Good sized room, with a comfortable bed in a nice setting. There is a bar, but it wasn't noisy at night. We enjoyed using the pool table. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Great place to stay near Alona Beach. Staff are friendly and the owner himself fix issues in our room. Only complain is the mirror is placed too high (to cater to taller foreign tourists it seems) and shower is too hot. But overall, a good place.

Clean and comfy room, minus the ants and super hard pillows! The staff were quite noisy early morning and late at night which was a bit annoying.. close to beach and restaurants

It was a nice experience. Their food is great. Customer service at its best. They allowed us to do early check in, since we got there at 12noon. The room is spacious, and I like the veranda. I will surely miss this place. Will definitely stay again here when I come back to Panglao.

Friendly staff, about 10 minutes strolling to the beach. Several good restaurants nearby, at Captain’s Bar we enjoyed Irish Coffee and Cerveza Negra (Must).
