What a great place! Loved the rooftop patio view for breakfast each morning, close to the main center but on a quiet street, the pool was very usable, staff were attentive and friendly. Good basic breakfast with coffee, good aircon and hot water. Would stay again. FYI there are 3 casa montemars, know which one you are going to (this is the bed and breakfast) when you arrive!

Your Travel Guide to Coron as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Coron from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most common way to reach Coron is by air, flying into Busuanga Airport (USU). From Manila, numerous airlines offer daily flights. Prices can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options can sometimes be found for around PHP 3,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip if booked strategically. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Clark, direct flights to Busuanga may also be available, though sometimes a layover in Manila is necessary. It is always recommended to compare prices and schedules on platforms like Traveloka to find the best deals. You can book flight tickets well in advance to secure lower fares.

While flying is the fastest and most convenient method, land and sea travel options exist for the more adventurous or budget-conscious traveler, though they are significantly longer. These typically involve a combination of bus rides to ferry terminals and then a ferry to Coron. However, for most Filipino travelers aiming for efficiency, flights remain the preferred choice.

Best Time to Visit Coron

The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the best time to visit Coron. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calm seas, which are ideal for island hopping and water activities. The peak tourist season falls between December and April, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rainfall and occasional typhoons. While you might find fewer crowds and lower prices during this period, travel plans can be disrupted by weather conditions. If you decide to visit during the wet season, it’s wise to have flexible plans and monitor weather forecasts closely.

For a balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or May. These periods often offer pleasant conditions without the peak season intensity, allowing for a more relaxed exploration of Coron’s attractions.

Food and Dining Near Coron — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Coron offers a delightful array of culinary experiences that reflect Filipino flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is fresh seafood, given its proximity to the ocean. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are staples, often prepared simply to highlight their natural taste. Look for local eateries in Coron Town Proper for the freshest catches.

Another local specialty is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing appetizer or light meal. It’s a perfect dish to enjoy on a warm day after a swim.

For a taste of hearty Filipino comfort food, try Adobo. While found all over the Philippines, each region and eatery has its own take on this classic dish of meat braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. You’ll find chicken and pork adobo commonly available.

Don’t forget to sample some local fruits, especially during their season. Mangoes, bananas, and other tropical fruits are abundant and delicious. Pair your meals with a refreshing buko juice (young coconut water) for a truly authentic experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Coron

Filipino culture in Coron is generally warm and welcoming. It’s customary to be polite and respectful, especially when visiting local communities or interacting with elders. Learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Magandang araw" (Good day) can go a long way in fostering positive interactions.

Safety in Coron is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, as with any travel destination, it’s wise to be aware of your surroundings, secure your valuables, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. For emergencies, local police can be reached at [Insert local emergency number if available, otherwise omit].

Essential apps for your trip include a reliable map application for navigation, a currency converter, and translation apps if you plan to interact extensively with locals who may not speak English. Weather apps are also crucial for monitoring conditions, especially if you are traveling during the wet season. Traveloka app itself is essential for managing bookings.

The location of the hotel wasn't good. Our window view was roof of another house and looks like slum. Though the hotel staffs were very nice and accommodating. Overall, I won't recommend this hotel if you want a comfortable vacation.

Casa Montemar though a no star hotel, hotel is a very nice place to stay during Coron trips. It more than value for money since the extra free services is so worthy to mention. Most of the basic things important for tourists are in this hotel like air con room, TV with cable, linens, towels and toiletries, water heater. And the view deck / dining area at the 3rd floor is the best part since the view is overlooking the port and the mountains which is so relaxing. The hotel is located in a quiet place of Coron but near everything: town plaza, restos, souvenir shops, port, Mt Tapyat and Maguinit hot spring. Tryc is available anytime for just P10 per passenger. The hotel staffs are very kind, courteous and accommodating to all our needs and extra requests😊👍 We arrived at 730 am and I was only expecting to leave our baggage. But the receptionist allowed us to do early check in without additional fees😊👍they gave us 2 rooms which are just adjacent to reception. Very nice. The 2 rooms have capacity just for 2 pax. But in one of the rooms, we are 4 in the family and they did not charge us extras except for the additional pillows and linens and breakfasts for the extra people. The breakfast has 8 selections to choose from which are all delicious by the way and they served sticky rice like japanese rice which is very ok. If you want to eat dinner or lunch in the view deck, they are so kind enough to lend guests with dining utensils. Free water in dispenser is available at the 3rd floor also. There's a free wifi but connection is not so good and most of the time intermittent. But that's not an issue as we brought our own wireless LTE. They arranged for our Coron Ultimate tour and gave us huge discounts. They have pool and its cleaned everyday (though we didn't get the chance to swim.). We met the owner of Casa Montemar, Mr. Alvin and he is so kind and warm as well. He treated us so cordially and told about his success stories from being a nurse in the US to becoming a a very successful hotel owner. He even drove us to the airport on the way back.. Super wow for the excellent customer services provided. The only thing I would recommend is to install bidet at toilets😊 Will definitely book in this hotel again and will surely refer to my friends as well. Thank you Mr. Alvin and to all the staffs we met. Thank you Casa Montemar for making our stay in Coron worth it.👍😊

We had an awesome stay here in Casa Montemar Bed and Breakfast. Their staff are accommodating and are very friendly. Breakfast is affordable and worth it, try their Lamayo and Tapa breakfast. My personal favorite part of the hotel is the roofdeck for it showcases one of the best view of Coron, while enjoying my drink. Only con is, water supply is not available specially in the morning so wake up early. You'll miss the sunrise and your morning shower. ahaha. Wifi range is limited to lobby only. There is no TV cable. Also, the air conditioner is loud. Overall, the stay was satisfying and if ever I'll come back to Coron, I'll be staying here again. :) Thank you Casa Montemar for a wonderful stay!

The room they reserved via app is small and with moldy smell; however, they upgraded our room to one with a panoramic view room for minimal amount. The staff are very friendly and informative. The owner is very accommodating also. And their breakfast is really good. We would want to stay here again in our next Coron trip. Awesome place.

The staff were very friendly but downside is the place is really old and has depreciated a lot. We chose the hotel simply because we wanna swim after a long day of tours but we ended up not using the pool since it's too dirty. Day 1 of our stay we have mentioned about the pool already but they just cleaned it the night we said we'll go swimming so we had to wait for the vacuum and filter to be finished. Good lighting would probably help. The place is beautiful, it just needs renovation so the pictures can really match what it is now.

Our stay at Casa Montemar was far from what we expected. The room we stayed in didn’t look well maintained and once we entered the room, there was (what looked like) a used towel hanging on the side. The receptionist even saw this and didn’t bother to remove it. The whole place is generally dusty and not maintained at all and the people at the front desk don’t seem to care about the cleanliness of the place or where they put their stuff. The whole place is just a mess and we don’t recommend you stay here ever. It’s such a shame because their location is great. If only the people cared enough to maintain the place and give better service to the guests.

Due to a gale warning we extended our stay at Coron so we chose Casa Montemar because it's affordable and had reputable reviews. Pros location is walking distance from the town (10-15 mins), staff welcomed us warmly, room was comfortable (with 2 beds, air con and fan and private toilet), on our checkout, the owner even greeted us and hoped that we would come back soon, gave us tips about our incoming El Nido trip. He was very helpful. The have an outdoor pool, but too bad we were not able to try it due to time constraint. To improve on: breakfast (some tomato slices and slice of fruits would have been better)

The photos are very deceiving.I was stayed from different hotel for 3 days and 2 nights but during my third night I opt to stay here at Casa Montemar since they have pool area and I saw from photos the pool is very enticing as well as the place but when I got there I was very disappointed for the following reasons: 1.The pool is at its bad and untidy no body is swimming aside from the dirty water no bench to sit in all are old and rusty.. 2.No lighting during at night unlike what I saw from photos 3.Black out for morethan an hour.Generator is not working also. 4.When I about to take a shower I found out I have no bath towel and so I need to go down again and ask at the reception in the lobby. 5.The WiFi is in the lobby area only no WiFi inside the room even if you are at the deluxe room. 6. Food is available during breakfast only no rice available during dinner. 7.Smelly water esp.during morning when I opened the faucet rusty water came out.

Great location. It was near Mt. Tapyas and main road. Their staff were very accommodating. I hope that they will add toiletries in each room and made some minor renovation. Nevertheless, they deserve a high rating.

It was a nice place to stay near Mt. Tapyas, the staff were very helpful in coordinating my needs for a tricycle, the room was a value for your money comfy and clean. Breakfast was good too. Will stay here again if I’m in Coron. 🙂
