Generally ok for transient use but found it a bit pricey given the condition of the hotel. It’s also strange to find out that the deluxe room for twin beds is more expensive than 1 queen bed which is unusual practice in hotels. There was a little cockroach on the bed when I woke up in the miffed of the night. Food in their restaurant is pleasant.

How to Get to Mariveles from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Mariveles from Manila is a common route for many Filipino travelers. The most straightforward way is by bus, with numerous companies operating daily trips from terminals in Cubao and Pasay. The journey typically takes between 3 to 4 hours, with fares generally ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500, depending on the bus company and service type.

For those flying into the region, Clark International Airport (CRK) is the closest major airport. From Clark, you can take a bus or arrange a private transfer to Mariveles. Driving your own vehicle offers the most flexibility. From Metro Manila, you can take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) towards Bataan. The drive is scenic and well-maintained, with toll fees varying based on your starting point and route. Parking is available at Casa Veles Hotel, making it a convenient option for road-trippers.

Best Time to Visit Mariveles

The dry season, typically from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit Mariveles and the Bataan province. During these months, the weather is usually sunny with lower chances of rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities, beach visits, and exploring the natural landscapes. Temperatures are warm, averaging around 28-32 degrees Celsius.

The months from May to October constitute the wet season, characterized by occasional to frequent rainfall. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation rates, it can impact outdoor plans. If you choose to visit during this time, it's advisable to pack rain gear and have indoor alternatives for your itinerary. Regardless of the season, Mariveles offers a unique charm.

Food and Dining Near Mariveles — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Mariveles, like much of Bataan, offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects its coastal location and Filipino heritage. Seafood is a prominent feature, with fresh catches readily available. Dishes like grilled fish (inihaw na isda) are a staple, often seasoned simply to highlight the natural flavors of the ocean. Look for local eateries serving this fresh catch.

Another local specialty you should try is Bataan's version of *sinigang*, a sour and savory soup. While pork and shrimp are common, the availability of fresh seafood in Mariveles means you might find delicious fish or shellfish variations. The tangy broth, often flavored with tamarind, is a comforting and classic Filipino taste.

Don't leave Mariveles without trying *laing*, a dish made from taro leaves cooked in coconut milk with spices. While often associated with Bicol, Bataan has its own preparation that is equally delicious. The creamy, slightly spicy, and savory flavors are a true delight. You can often find this in local carinderias or restaurants serving Filipino comfort food.

For a sweet ending, try local delicacies like *pastillas de leche* or other regional sweets. These are perfect for pasalubong (souvenirs) or simply to satisfy a sweet craving. Exploring the local markets and small shops will often reveal these homemade treats, offering a taste of authentic Bataan.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Mariveles

Mariveles is part of the province of Bataan, which has a rich cultural heritage influenced by its history, particularly during World War II. The local culture is generally warm and hospitable. Filipinos are known for their strong sense of community and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way.

For safety, Mariveles is generally a safe place for travelers. However, as with any destination, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. In case of emergencies, the local police can be reached at their station, and the Mariveles Health Service Cooperative Hospital is nearby for medical needs.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used by Filipinos. Booked at Hotels.com because it says that there is an available room, once paid thru the website, a personnel called me and said that there have been a mistake and there are no rooms available on our booking date, the personnel ask if I could cancel the booking, but when I click cancel, I can only refund half of the amount I paid, the personnel said that they will contact Hotels.com or if we want they will move us to a different hotel. They called again and said that Hotels.com can only refund half so our only option is to accept the refund (which is not our fault from the start) or move to a different hotel, they said that they have found a hotel near them and they could arrange the booking, we agreed. When our guests have arrived at the hotel, they were given a receipt for the hotel accom. only to found out that the hotel room they moved our guest is only half of the price we have paid Casa Veles.

Horrible experience for foreign travelers. Started off at first impression: The front desk attendant was rude and spoke in a different language to her co-worker about how I was causing her a lot of stress at check-in. She assumed I didn’t understand the language. Highly disappointed in their hospitality. Construction on a new hotel across from this hotel, lobby noises echoed throughout the halls because there is nothing to absorb the noise, no elevator/lift, no way of traveling around the area (via tricycle, Jeepney, Grab or taxi) unless you have your own vehicle. The hotel shuttle hires pricey private drivers back to Orion to catch the ferry back to Manila. We paid ahead for 2 night stay in full before we checked in but we checked out a day early.

Nytt, fräscht och modernt! Vänlig personal och bra mat. Enda negativa var myrorna vi hade i rummet. Visserligen helt harmlösa men ändå irriterande.
