Your Travel Guide to Cebu City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Cebu City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila, the most efficient way to reach Cebu City is by air. Numerous airlines operate daily flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 30 minutes, with fares varying based on booking time and airline, but you can often find round-trip tickets for PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000. It's always best to book flight tickets in advance for the best prices.

If you prefer land and sea travel, buses are available from various provincial terminals in Luzon that connect to ferry services bound for Cebu. This option is significantly longer, often taking 24 hours or more, and involves multiple transfers. While more budget-friendly, it's a journey best suited for those with ample time and a preference for a more extensive travel experience.

For those driving from nearby Visayan islands, ferry services are readily available. If you are driving from other parts of Cebu island, you can reach the city via well-maintained national highways. The journey by car offers flexibility, allowing you to stop and explore along the way, though be mindful of potential traffic congestion as you approach the city center.

Best Time to Visit Cebu City

Cebu City enjoys a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, typically from December to May, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring, with less rainfall and lower humidity. This period is ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing, making it a popular time for both local and international tourists.

The wet season runs from June to November, characterized by higher humidity and more frequent, though often brief, rain showers. While this period might see fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, it's wise to pack an umbrella and be prepared for occasional disruptions to outdoor plans. Despite the rain, the city remains active and engaging.

Food and Dining Near Cebu City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Cebu is complete without trying its famous Lechon. Known for its crispy skin and succulent meat, Cebuano Lechon is often considered the best in the Philippines. You can find excellent versions in many restaurants and carinderias throughout the city, each with its own unique spice blend.

Another must-try is Kinilaw, Cebu's version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that perfectly complements the tropical climate. It’s a staple in many local eateries and a delightful appetizer.

For seafood lovers, grilled seafood is a popular choice. Fresh catches from the surrounding waters are grilled to perfection, often served with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. Many restaurants along the coast and within the city offer a wide selection of grilled fish, squid, and prawns.

Don't forget to sample local delicacies like Puto Maya and Sikwate (hot chocolate). This traditional pairing is a popular breakfast or merienda choice, offering a comforting and authentic taste of Cebuano culinary heritage. Many local markets and cafes serve this delightful combination.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Cebu City

Cebuanos are known for their warmth and hospitality. While English and Tagalog are widely understood, learning a few basic Cebuano phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) can be appreciated. Respect local customs, especially when visiting religious sites, by dressing modestly.

Cebu City is generally safe for travelers, but like any urban center, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Avoid displaying expensive items openly, and be cautious of petty theft in crowded areas. It's recommended to use reputable taxi services or ride-sharing apps for transportation. In case of emergencies, local police hotlines are available.

For seamless travel, consider downloading essential apps. Grab is indispensable for transportation and food delivery. Google Maps is crucial for navigation. For communication, Viber and WhatsApp are widely used by Filipinos. Having these apps on your smartphone will greatly enhance your convenience and safety during your stay.

The room is spacious and it is clean. However, when I entered the comfort room, it’s not what I expected. The tiles are old and obviously has gone through a lot of repairing, which makes it not look as good. The heater was fine. The air conditioner is good. The TV also has some channels that can’t be accessed.

The hotel wasn’t much I expected. Cleanliness is below average as I can see lots areas around even in the room. My bedsheets has stains of I’m not sure what. Not so a strategic locations. Too bad choice of me just being after the use of fridge but it’s just a short stay anyway.

We left 2 t-shirts in room 16 and when we return to get it. Omg, it was not endorsed by their staff at the front desk. We know its our fault but it the hotels responsibility to be accountable of the guest things that was left behind. Honesty is best policy.

We stayed here cause we want to have a staycation in cebu city. Unluckily, their swimming pool is too dirty (and that's the main reason why did we chose this hotel, is because it has a swimming pool, but when we got there their swimming pool is too dirty so we end up staying at the room and watching tv instead). Well the room is fine however our room's door knob is broken, the bathroom's floor is so slippery (don't get me wrong, we stayed in other hotel before and their toilet and bath has a rubber math to avoid sliding in the bath room, they don't have a slippers as well where you can wear inside the bathroom). This hotel is so small and too old. The hotel receptionist is not friendly, when we got there its 3pm and the lady in the reception area looks too tired and too sleepy. She's even yawning in front of us.

The room is spacious and it is clean. However, when I entered the comfort room, it’s not what I expected. The tiles are old and obviously has gone through a lot of repairing, which makes it not look as good. The heater was fine. The air conditioner is good. The TV also has some channels that can’t be accessed.

Room was not how it looked like before and in photos. The room smelled of unwashed urine. We stayed there for less than 10 minutes and we can’t even request for a refund😓

The hotel wasn’t much I expected. Cleanliness is below average as I can see lots areas around even in the room. My bedsheets has stains of I’m not sure what. Not so a strategic locations. Too bad choice of me just being after the use of fridge but it’s just a short stay anyway.

Room was big, bed comfortable (although pillows could have been better) and the staff very friendly. Not much nearby.

Love this place. It’s my 4th time to stay here. This is not crowded. Wifi is all over the place. But not in the room.

Cable was out during our 2 nights stay. Shower was not hot either. Just an ordinary hotel. Nothing special.
