location: The place was just beside the baywalk where you can find the huge iheartmati signange, 2 blocks away from fast food restaurants and 1 block away from the nearest convenience store and tricycle terminal though I don't feel safe going out at night since its also just beside KTV bars for locals, you will be going through a lot of drunk people before reaching the hotel with a very few to almost non visible street lights. price: one of the cheapest hotel. our room was less than 700php good for three persons with tv, cold ac, towels and toiletries. the room was huge but the hotel corridor needs major improvement. I could imagine a horror movie shooting in their corridor due to cracked flooring tiles, almost dim corridor lights and an opened storage room with no lights. There's also a huge window in our room with no use at all (for viewing) since its blocked by a wall that even a small ray of sunshine cannot go through. overall verdict: great for budget travelers. and kudos as well to their Front desk, check in was fast and no hassle at all

We've checked in at almost 5PM. The receptionist was accommodating and helpful. However, no room key was provided to us. If we want a room key, we need to deposit P500 for it. In case we lose the key, we won't get our deposit back. How pricey, right? But it's okay not to get the room key. The receptionist was always there to open the room whenever we go out. The Room? It's okay. Veranda door's lock was broken. Electricity outlet is NOT SAFE, located on the headstand of the bed and was almost broken. Television was outdated and limited channels only. 1st floor rooms were for double bed occupancy and 2nd floor rooms were for single bed and twin bed occupancy. Veranda on the 1st floor was located at the back part of building and on the 2nd floor was located on front. We were given 1st floor room. The Comfort Room? It's okay. There's heater 👌 but the only shower 🚿 worked and other faucet didn't. It's clean also. Only soap was provided and 1 towel, no shampoo. Breakfast? Ham, Fried Egg, Rice and cold water was served at 8AM. Imagine, breakfast at 8AM? It's so late. They only gave us hot water and no coffee or choco powder. Even so, they allowed us to checked out late, 4PM.

Everything about this hotel was well below standard. Very dirty room, bathroom was disgusting. I would never stay here again.

About

A budget vacation spent in a hotel in Mati City is guaranteed to give you front row seats to scenic sea views and memorable seafood buffets. Learn more about the city that borders the southeastern side of Mindanao in this guide.

Mati Capitol Hill

Mati is the capital and only city in the province of Davao Oriental. The city has long been a haven for sea-lovers because of Dahican Beach and Pujada Bay. These days, Mati is also attracting tourists and aviation enthusiasts with its fantastic aerial views and affordable flying facilities and lessons.

How to Go

By plane

If you’re coming from Manila, you can book a direct flight to Davao City. From there, you have to take one of the Mati-bound vans that stop by Gaisano Mall or Buhangin Gym.

By land transportation

Mati can be reached by taking a bus or a van from Davao City. The ride to Mati’s van terminal takes about 3 or 4 hours and costs about P250 per head.

Getting Around

Tricycles are the most common transportation options in the city, while jeeps are typically used to travel to Mati’s neighboring towns. If you’re planning on trying out ultralight flying, hire a tricycle driver to take you to Mati Airport. Make sure you get the driver’s number so you can call him to fetch you once you’re back on the ground.

Tourist Attractions

Mati City’s primary tourist attraction is Dahican Beach. This 7-km stretch of white sand and crystalline waters offers breathtaking sceneries and opportunities to take part in watersports. This shore serves as a vantage point from which one can view the Plesiosaur-shaped island called Sleeping Dinosaur, which is another attraction in itself.

Mati Park and Baywallk

Aside from the beach, tourists can also visit the Carmelite Monastery, Mati’s City Hall and Pylon, and the restaurants in Baywalk. If you’re into photography and architecture, you should drop by Davao Oriental’s Provincial Capitol, which is popularly known as the local white house. Another exciting destination is Subangan Museum and its collection of local crafts and cultural artifacts.

Aside from the allure of its structures and natural wonders, Mati is also attracting tourists with its programs for aviation tourism. Mati Airport draws in future pilots and aviation enthusiasts with its ultralight flying facilities, flying lessons, and affordable introductory flights.

Top Things to Do

Get acquainted with the lovely seascape beside Mati City by spending a day on Dahican Beach. In addition to its natural beauty and chill vibe, the shore serves as a venue for skimboarding and surfing lessons. You don’t have to worry if you’re a total beginner; the Amihan boys — a group of local boys who compete in skimboarding and surfing competitions all over Mindanao — will teach you how to balance yourself on the board. But if you want to see and interact with corals and fishes, Pujada Island serves as a jump off point for snorkeling and diving trips.

Mindanao Saga Flying Club

After you’ve explored the water, it’s time to take to the skies. From Dahican Beach, hire a tricycle that will take you straight to Mati Airport. Here, an experienced Mindanao Saga Flying Club member will give you a short introduction to basic flight safety and signals. Next is the highlight of the whole shindig: a 15-minute aerial tour in an ultralight plane. Your pilot will show you Mati’s best sights and scenes from above. Make sure you take a lot of pictures during your flight. At the same time, take the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective and enjoy the absence of the feeling of solid ground beneath your feet.

Where to Eat

There’s no lack of good food in Mati City. For coffee, sweets, and good conversations, head to the Baywalk area and look for Ciangi. Visayan staple dishes, on the other hand, are offered at La-ne’s Kan’an. The restaurant’s sinuglaw — a combination of grilled pork belly and tuna ceviche — will certainly fit any celebration.

Grilled Tuna Belly

Seafood dishes like grilled tuna belly, crabs, and shrimps are available all day from the aptly named Seaside Restaurant. Alternatively, you can hold a feast in your accommodation by buying cheap but freshly caught squids from the local fishermen.

Nightlife

Looking to hang out with your group at night? Mati has some great bars and restaurants like Kinanatu Restaurant where you can drink, eat, be merry, and be serenaded by the local bands.

Where to Stay

There is an abundance of cheap accommodations alongside Dahican Beach and in Mati’s city proper. If you want a beachfront hotel in Mati, you can stay at Dahican Surf Resort or Blue Bless Beach Resort. For a carefree holiday close to the city’s conveniences, book a stay at Senorita Suites or Beatriz Hotel.

Travel Tips

• The bus going to Mati from Davao City stops at every town, so it will take you a considerable time before you reach your destination. If you want to spend less time on the road, take the vans that stop by Gaisano Mall. • If you’re planning to play in the water, invest in waterproof containers or casings for your gadgets.

• Remember that strapless cameras are not allowed on ultralight planes. Either you bring your camera straps or you entrust your gadgets to a friend before your flight.
