"San Fernando is mainly known for its Giant Lantern Festival, which takes place during December. There are, however, other family-friendly attractions worth visiting all throughout the year. Enjoy rides at Sky Ranch, swim at Villa Alfredo's, and jump to your heart's content at the Jump Yard Trampoline Park. Take the kids out for a history lesson at the San Fernando Train Station. Now a museum, it was the end point of the Bataan Death March."

Aside from the place being simply relaxing, the whole experience was made better by their very friendly and accommodating staff! I stayed with them the day before I took a licensure exam. I was cramming and studying in the garden when one of their staff installed an electric fan beside me. I did not request it but the gesture truly touched me. You won't feel bad asking anything to the staff because they were very accommodating and supportive. I asked them to wake me up at 5:00 AM. They were apologetic that they got to call me 10 minutes later but I still appreciated it. I was also worried about where to leave my things while I would be having the exam and they suggested that I leave them in the lobby even if I was no longer staying in any of their rooms. I never hesitated to accept the offer because I knew my things would be safe and properly taken care of. True enough, when I got back to the hotel after my exam, my bag was in the same condition as I left it. I made one final request to use their comfort room so I could change my clothes. Without a second thought, they also granted it! It's a plus that the comfort room in the receiving area is air-conditioned. Overall, I felt so blessed during my stay there. I felt so "undeserving" of the experience but they remained true to their name being a "grace" lane:) I'll definitely go back here! (Probably, just to relax and enjoy the whole place and their superb service).

Toilet flush was broken, lifts/elevator was unserviceable. Requested for extra towel and handtowel but had no action and had to request again the next day. Not great for it 's price per night. 3/10 recommend.

Pleasant stay! The food in the Imang Nene’s restaurant is superb (this is where they serve the complimentary breakfast). Sparkling clean and spacious. Fast internet so those working remotely will have no issues with connectivity. My friends enjoyed our stay!

About

Christmas Capital San Fernando

San Fernando, Pampanga is a favorite weekend destination for locals in need of some fresh air and authentic Kapampangan sisig. Known to be the “Christmas Capital of the Philippines,” San Fernando holds an annual Giant Lantern Festival to pay tribute to their number one product: the parol.

How to Go

By Land

From Cubao, go on a Victory Bus Liner with a route to Olongapo. Be sure to tell the conductor that you’ll be getting off at San Fernando before hopping on a bus as not all make a stop at SF. The ride is less than two hours long.

Getting Around

San Fernando is a progressive city so it will not be hard for you to go around town with a jeepney or tricycle, or even a taxi.

Tourist Attractions

Lantern Festival

The best attraction in San Fernando is the annual Giant Lantern Festival held every December until the first week of January. The streets are filled with enormous parols as their creators boast them off to onlookers. Various barangays also compete against each other to win the best lantern award during this time.

Pampanga Eye

Another popular attraction is the Pampanga Eye, a towering Ferris wheel that’s 65 meters in height. It is found at the Sky Ranch and many a thrill seeker line up to brave the dizzying heights.

For the less adventurous, they can take a more relaxing tour of San Fernando’s heritage district filled with heritage houses, government buildings, churches, schools, and other historical buildings.

Top Things to Do

San Fernando Railway

Be sure to watch the Giant Lantern Parade in December – the winds are cool and the sights are lovely. You can also go back in time by visiting historical buildings such as the San Fernando Train Station – no longer functioning today, but stands as a museum preserving the memory of the building. Finally, go on a food trip and sample the best in Kapampangan cuisine.

Where to Eat

San Fernando Sisig

Start with Everybody’s Café, a post-war restaurant that serves home-cooked meals via turo-turo (pointing at the food you want to order). Be bold and daring as you try fried crickets and frogs as an afternoon snack.

Also try out Susie’s Cuisine, a former carinderia turned restaurant, and eat their bestselling pancit luglog and various rice cakes and cassava cakes.

Nightlife

Several bars are open until late in the evening. They serve Filipino comfort food paired with thirst-quenching beers. City Grill & Restaurant is one of the community’s favorites, and may fill up as the night grows.

Where to Stay

There are several options to stay, depending on your budget. Backpackers can opt to stay in Maharlika Hostel for less than PhP1,000/night. If you have PhP3,000/night to spare, you can reserve accommodations in Hotel Gracelane. Those seeking three to four-star hotel treatment may book a stay at The Tavern Villas at Orchid Gardens or Best Western Bendix Hotel for less than PhP9,000/night.

Travel Tips

  • Best time to visit San Fernando is around Lenten Season and Christmas
  • Bring your ATM card with you as there are many ATMs around the area
  • While San Fernando is generally safe, do be careful of men trying to “lend a lady” to you; avoid bars and other eating establishments where you feel you aren’t safe
