Our stay at Coconut Garden Resort was unforgettable! Nestled on the beautiful Cagnipa Island, it felt like our own private paradise. Although the forecast predicted rain, we were lucky to enjoy two full days of sunshine—perfect for exploring and relaxing. The house reef just off the beach was a highlight—amazing snorkeling right at our doorstep! The resort's menu and food exceeded our expectations—fresh, flavorful, and with great variety. Every meal felt like a treat. The staff were fantastic—welcoming, attentive, and always ready with a smile. And we absolutely loved the resort dogs, Momo and Toytoy—sweet, friendly companions who made the experience feel even more homey. The boat shuttle to and from Port Barton was scenic and smooth, adding to the adventure. For most of our stay, we had the whole island to ourselves, which made it incredibly peaceful and special. A group of about 15 guests arrived after we left, so we really got to enjoy that serene, castaway vibe. If you're looking for a unique, off-the-beaten-path island experience with great hospitality and natural beauty, Coconut Garden Resort is the perfect escape. We’re already dreaming of coming back!

Your Travel Guide to San Vicente as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Vicente from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to San Vicente, Palawan, from Manila or other major Philippine cities primarily involves flying into either Puerto Princesa (PPS) or El Nido (ENI). Direct flights from Manila to San Vicente (SWL) are limited and seasonal, making Puerto Princesa the most common entry point for many. A flight from Manila to Puerto Princesa typically costs between PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000, depending on the airline and booking time, and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. From Puerto Princesa, you can then take a van or bus to Port Barton, which is the gateway to San Vicente's islands.

The land transfer from Puerto Princesa to Port Barton takes approximately 3 to 4 hours and usually costs around PHP 300 to PHP 500 per person. These vans operate frequently throughout the day. Once you reach Port Barton town, you will then need to arrange for a boat transfer to your specific island resort, such as Coconut Garden Island Resort on Cacnipa Island. This boat ride is part of the island experience and can cost anywhere from PHP 150 to PHP 500, depending on the distance and number of passengers.

Alternatively, you can fly into El Nido (ENI). Flights to El Nido are often more expensive than to Puerto Princesa. From El Nido, you can take a van directly to Port Barton, a journey that lasts about 5 to 6 hours and costs around PHP 500 to PHP 700. Given the travel time and cost, flying into Puerto Princesa is generally the more practical and budget-friendly option for most Filipino travelers heading to the Port Barton area. Remember to book flight tickets well in advance to get the best deals.

Best Time to Visit San Vicente

The ideal time to visit San Vicente, Palawan, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is generally sunny with less rainfall, making it perfect for island hopping, beach activities, and exploring the natural landscapes. The seas are usually calmer, ensuring smoother boat rides and better visibility for snorkeling and diving.

Within the dry season, the period from December to February is considered peak season. This is when the weather is at its most pleasant, with cooler temperatures and minimal humidity. However, it's also the busiest time, so expect more crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours. If you prefer a balance between good weather and fewer people, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or March to May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings more frequent rainfall and occasional typhoons. While this period offers lush greenery and fewer tourists, outdoor activities can be significantly impacted by the weather. If you are on a tight budget and don't mind the possibility of rain, the wet season can offer a more secluded experience. However, for a reliable and enjoyable trip focused on sun and sea, the dry season remains the recommended choice.

Food and Dining Near San Vicente — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When exploring San Vicente and its surrounding areas like Port Barton, Filipino travelers should definitely indulge in fresh seafood. Given its coastal location, the catch of the day is usually abundant and prepared in various delicious ways. Grilled fish, squid, and prawns are common and highly recommended. Look for local eateries that serve these simply grilled or with a savory sauce, often accompanied by rice and a side of soy sauce with calamansi and chili.

Another local favorite you must try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing and tangy dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Many small carinderias and restaurants in Port Barton offer their own take on this classic Filipino appetizer, each with a unique blend of flavors.

take advantage of this on trying La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo but popular throughout the Philippines. While San Vicente might be more known for seafood, finding a local eatery that serves a well-made Batchoy can be a comforting experience, especially on a cooler evening. The rich broth, tender pork, and fresh noodles make it a satisfying meal that showcases Filipino culinary diversity.

For a sweet treat, keep an eye out for local fruits like ripe mangoes, coconuts, and bananas, which are often sold by vendors or available in local markets. Enjoying a fresh buko (young coconut) juice is a perfect way to stay hydrated and cool down. These simple, natural flavors are a true taste of the Philippines and are readily available in the region.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for San Vicente

Filipino travelers visiting San Vicente will find the local culture to be warm and welcoming, characterized by the general hospitality of Palawenos. Respecting local customs is key; always greet elders with a nod and a smile, and dress modestly when visiting local villages or churches. Learning a few basic Tagalog or Cuyonon phrases can go a long way in fostering positive interactions with the community.

When it comes to safety, San Vicente and Port Barton are generally considered safe destinations. However, it's always wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places at night. For any emergencies, local police assistance can be reached through general emergency numbers, and it's good to have the contact details of your accommodation readily available.

For a smoother travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigation, especially if you plan to explore beyond the main tourist spots. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter locals who speak primarily Cuyonon or other dialects. Lastly, a weather app will keep you updated on the conditions, allowing you to plan your activities accordingly, especially during the transitional seasons.

It's also advisable to have a local SIM card with a data plan for easy communication and internet access. This will allow you to stay in touch with your travel companions, share updates with family, and access online resources on the go. Having these tools at your disposal will enhance your sense of security and convenience throughout your San Vicente adventure.

Very pleasant indeed , beautiful scenery and peaceful. Make sure you bring insect repellant and I dont advise kayaking around the the next bay north. The second we set foot on the sand an extraordinarily obnoxious and aggressive man / campsite owner said he would set his Rottweilers on us which kind of put the dampers on the day.

Absolutely beautiful place to spend a couple of days. Some staff were lovely others downright rude. Menu extensive, but as it seems like every where on Palawan half of it is not available and what is available is mediocre and poor value. It’s impossible to communicate with this place before you get there so if you want to know anything ask weeks in advance and you might get an answer. Glad I visited but probably wouldn’t again.

Pleasant stay at Coconut Garden island resort. The only problem is that you have to pay for everything, the rooms are old and it's clear that the owner's only aim is to make money and nothing else.
