Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Metro Manila, reaching Tagaytay City is most conveniently done by car via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway). The journey typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Toll fees can range from PHP 300 to PHP 500 for a round trip, depending on your vehicle type and exact route.

Alternatively, numerous bus companies operate daily trips to Tagaytay from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Pasay, Cubao, and Alabang. Bus fares are generally affordable, ranging from PHP 150 to PHP 250 per person, one way. The bus journey usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. This is a practical option for solo travelers or those on a tighter budget.

For those coming from other major Philippine cities, the most efficient way to reach Tagaytay is often by first traveling to Manila. You can book flight tickets to NAIA (Manila) and then proceed to Tagaytay via bus or car. Planning your travel dates and booking transportation in advance can help secure better prices and ensure a smoother trip.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City experiences a generally cooler climate compared to the rest of the Philippines, making it a year-round destination. However, the best time to visit is typically during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunny days, perfect for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic views.

The months of December to February are particularly pleasant, with temperatures often dropping to their lowest, providing a refreshing ambiance. This period is considered peak season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation rates. If you prefer fewer crowds and slightly lower prices, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional rain showers. While this might interrupt some outdoor plans, it also means fewer tourists and a more tranquil atmosphere. The lush greenery is at its peak during this time, offering a different kind of beauty. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Tagaytay's charm remains, offering a welcome respite from the heat.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagaytay is a culinary destination for many Filipino travelers, offering a range of flavors and dining experiences. A must-try is Bulalo, a hearty beef soup known for its rich broth and tender meat, often enjoyed with a view of the Taal Lake. Many restaurants along the ridge serve this iconic dish, making it easily accessible.

Another local favorite is Sinigang na Baboy or Hipon, a sour and savory soup that is a staple in Filipino households. The tangy broth, often flavored with tamarind, is both comforting and refreshing, especially in Tagaytay's cooler climate. You can find excellent versions of this dish in various local eateries and carinderias.

For those with a sweet tooth, Buko Pie is a popular dessert. This baked pastry with a creamy young coconut filling is a delightful treat to bring home or enjoy on the spot. Many bakeries and roadside stalls sell freshly baked Buko Pie, making it a convenient and delicious souvenir. Don't forget to try Tagaytay's famous strawberries, often found in jams, pastries, or simply sold fresh by vendors.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is known for its friendly locals and generally relaxed atmosphere. Filipinos are generally hospitable, and a simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or showing respect goes a long way. When visiting churches like the Ina ng Laging Saklolo Parish Church, dress modestly as a sign of respect.

Safety in Tagaytay is generally good, but as with any travel destination, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded areas. For emergencies, the local police can be reached at their hotline numbers, which are usually available online or through your hotel's front desk. It's also a good idea to have a basic first-aid kit handy.

For seamless travel, consider downloading essential apps. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for getting around if you're not bringing a car. Navigation apps like Google Maps are indispensable for finding your way to attractions and restaurants. Weather apps can help you plan your day, especially during the rainy season. Having these tools readily available on your smartphone will enhance your Tagaytay experience.

The view is the only good thing about this place—absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. The room was nothing like the photos—very misleading. The bathroom wasn’t properly cleaned, had mold, and smelled off. To top it off, we found a bag of trash under the sink that clearly wasn’t ours. The internet was unreliable, and when we checked the router, we discovered the cables had been chewed—possibly by a mouse. The Wi-Fi password on the info sheet was also incorrect, so we had to check the back of the router just to connect. Service was poor overall, and the condition of the room was unacceptable. Definitely won’t be coming back.

The rooms are great, I booked 2 rooms with me and fiancée then with my family for the other room. 1 queen bed room and 2 double bed room. A really cozy room with good running AC in both room. My main issue was the internet sometimes failing from time to time. The area is beautiful to view. Besides the beautiful view, the area made it hard to get service sometimes which is another issue.

The area is accessible to local restaurants. There was no Internet connection and no hot water for shower; the bathroom door was broken which could pose a safety hazard, and the AC was blowing only fan air. These matters were brought to the front desk but only the AC issue was addressed. At checkout, they charged us for a small face towel that was allegedly lost. We had it deducted from the deposit but they gave us less than what should be refunded to us. We complained because the math was incorrect and they gave us back the entire deposit. I told the front desk that there was no Internet at all and no hot water for the shower and they still want to charge us for a lost small towel. I do not recommend staying at Crosswinds because guests will be out of touch from the outside world without the Internet. There was also no telephone or Internet at our room. The hallways and the furniture were dark.

Aircon remote was not working inside the room. I can feel the spring in the bed. The room was clean and bathroom was good too. I find it weird that the couch is blocking the cabinets where we should be putting our stuff/bag, etc

Everything was excellent especially the receptionists and the staff who are very helpful, accomodating and warm. Please fix the internet issues as we didnt have a stable connection throughout our stay. Even our tv cant be used because of poor connection.

The unit we stayed is a bit old. The air conditioner is noisy and we had issues with adjusting the temperature.

The hallways and the furniture were dark.

the ambiance of the place is superb bec of the weather and pine trees, but the room itself is too old and not well maintain, the faucet in kitchen and bathroom are not in good condition, the applicances are old even lack of electric sockets, they should renovate it to attrack more customer, otherwise the price i paid i can enjoy it to a five star hotel compare to crosswind
