We loved our stay at Dakak resort. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The property was picked up daily, there was always someone available. The grounds show the wear of life on islands with driving wind and rain and mountainous terrain. There was a couple of buildings closed and the walkway along the coast was closed, but there was always signs of revitalization and overcoming natures assault. For a natural vacation with many amenities and staying amongst people with beautiful souls, I highly recommend Dakak beach resort and properties

Beautiful, safe and clean resort. Stayed for 4 days, 3 nights and was not bored once. The beach is private and very beautiful. The restaurant food was very good and the staff was so friendly. There is a ton of water activity (scuba, boat rental, zip line, kayak, etc...) We rented jet skis and it was so much fun. Also, went golfing which is on the resort. Highly recommend if you're in Dipolog!

Your Travel Guide to Dapitan City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dapitan City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers originating from Manila and other major cities in Luzon and the Visayas, flying is the most practical and time-efficient method to reach Dapitan City. The primary gateway is Dipolog Airport (DPL). Several airlines operate flights to Dipolog from Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB). Flight durations typically range from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but expect prices to start from around PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip if booked strategically.

From Dipolog Airport, Dakak Park & Beach Resort is approximately a 30-45 minute drive away. You can arrange for airport transfers through the resort or take a taxi. For those considering land travel from Mindanao, it involves a longer journey. Buses and vans connect major cities like Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga City to Dapitan. These trips can last anywhere from 8 to 12 hours or more, depending on the starting point and road conditions. Bus fares are considerably cheaper, often ranging from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500 for a one-way ticket.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, particularly for those within Mindanao. The routes involve national highways and ferry services if crossing from islands. This offers flexibility but requires significant travel time and planning. For most Filipino travelers coming from afar, the convenience and speed of air travel make it the preferred choice for reaching Dapitan City and its attractions.

Best Time to Visit Dapitan City

The climate in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, is generally tropical, characterized by warm temperatures throughout the year. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring historical sites, and enjoying the beaches. The weather is generally sunny and pleasant, perfect for sightseeing and relaxation.

The period from June to October often brings more frequent rainfall, as it coincides with the wetter season. While you can still visit during these months, be prepared for occasional downpours, which might disrupt outdoor plans. Peak tourist seasons usually align with major holidays like Christmas, New Year, and Holy Week, as well as summer months. Visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or February, can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Dapitan City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Dapitan City, like much of Zamboanga del Norte, offers a culinary landscape influenced by its local produce and cultural heritage. A must-try dish is the Sinuglaw, a local variation of Kinilaw (raw fish salad) and Sinugba (grilled meat). It typically features fresh fish or pork belly, marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and spices, then combined with grilled pork. The tangy and savory flavors are a delightful introduction to the region's palate.

Another local specialty to seek out is the Tiula Itum, a distinctive soup from the Tausug people, often found in areas with Muslim influence. It’s characterized by its dark broth, derived from burnt coconut meat, which imparts a unique smoky flavor. The soup usually contains beef or goat, along with aromatic spices. For seafood lovers, fresh grilled fish and prawns are abundant, often seasoned simply and grilled over charcoal, allowing the natural flavors to shine.

You should also try local delicacies like Panganan, a type of rice cake often flavored with coconut. For a refreshing treat, look for fresh tropical fruits like mangoes and lanzones, which are often available and exceptionally sweet when in season. Exploring local eateries and markets will provide the most authentic taste of Dapitan. Many small carinderias and restaurants near the city center offer these dishes at affordable prices, providing a genuine taste of local life.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dapitan City

My biggest issue are the Prawns served in the restaurant. The sauce was burnt and the prawns were overcooked. No spice or flavor at all. Was worse than nursing home food. Should be cooked right or taken off of the menu. I admit that other guests food that I was with their food appeared to be cooked just fine.

This is the most I regretted that I booked this place. The price is expensive but the quality of the place is very poor. Ant’s and cockroaches inside our room. All day and night mosquitoes biting us. We can’t sleep cause constantly a nut fall in the room that make a loud noise even in the middle of the night. WiFi sucks and always have power shortages. Never ever going back in this place

Its a nice secluded property, but I found myself leaving it to do things outside or have different dinning options.

Our family stayed 3 days/4 nights at this resort. The buffet is is exposed to open air so there were many flies feasting on the food. The fruits and the desserts were not covered at all. The other dishes were opened up frequently with no staff paying attention. Lunch was 1500 pp but the lechon is gone and dishes were not replaced. If you go there 1 hr before the buffet closes, you will get the leftover food. There were more fliesrating the food than people. The resort transport called bao bao is sometimes nowhere to be found even after called by another staff. These people will make you walk from their lobby to your room even though they have a transport at the resort. Overall, I gave this resort one star because some of the staffs are nice and understanding of our concern. The manager never called me back after I called 3 times. I went to the lobby to speak to the manager and he was gone for the day at 3 pm.

Rooms are too inconvenient to get to. Steps leading to the prime rooms needs to be fixed. Cracks found on bathroom sink. Plants around need TLC. Overall the place needs total facelifting and not worth the exuberant money you pay.

This property has limited access to people with disability Antiquated front doors shower system and some electrical sockets are not functional. Dining services are polite but they're slow.

My family enjoyed their stay here. They thought the property was luxurious and food was delicious. The only con is that everything is pricey.
