Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from Manila, driving to Tagaytay City is a popular option. The journey typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions. You’ll primarily use the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then connect to the Tagaytay-Calamba Road or Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. Toll fees can range from PHP 200 to PHP 400, depending on your starting point and vehicle type.

Alternatively, numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Pasay and Cubao, offer direct routes to Tagaytay City. Buses like those operated by DLTB or BSC depart regularly throughout the day. The fare typically ranges from PHP 150 to PHP 250, and the travel time is approximately 2 to 3 hours. For those flying into the Philippines, booking your flight to Manila via Traveloka is the first step.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities, the most efficient way to reach Tagaytay is often by flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From NAIA, you can then follow the bus or driving routes mentioned above. Planning your flight and onward travel in advance can help secure better prices and ensure a smoother journey to the cool highlands of Tagaytay.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City experiences a cooler climate year-round compared to the lowlands, making it a pleasant destination anytime. However, the dry season, from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with comfortable temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic views without the interruption of heavy rains.

The months of December to February are particularly popular due to the Christmas season and the cooler temperatures. This is also peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. If you prefer a more tranquil visit, consider the shoulder months of November or the early part of the dry season, or the beginning of the wet season from May to October, though be prepared for occasional rain showers.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagaytay is renowned for its Bulalo, a hearty soup made from beef shanks and bone marrow, slow-cooked until tender. The rich, flavorful broth is perfect for Tagaytay’s cool weather. Many restaurants along the highway offer this specialty, with popular spots like Mahogany Market’s food stalls providing an authentic and affordable experience.

Another must-try is the Sinigang na Baboy or Hipon, a sour and savory soup that is a staple in Filipino cuisine. The tamarind-based broth, packed with vegetables and tender pork or shrimp, offers a comforting and familiar taste. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some of the more upscale restaurants around Tagaytay City.

For those with a sweet tooth, Tagaytay offers delicious local delicacies. Try the Buko Pie, a sweet young coconut pie with a flaky crust, a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) to bring home. You can find freshly baked Buko Pies in numerous bakeries and roadside stalls throughout the city, ensuring you get a warm and delicious treat.

Don't forget to sample the local strawberries, often found in U-Pick farms or sold fresh at roadside stands. You can enjoy them fresh, in milkshakes, or as part of desserts. Visiting a strawberry farm allows you to pick your own, adding a fun, interactive element to your culinary exploration of Tagaytay.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is generally a welcoming place for visitors. Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and politeness is always appreciated. A simple "po" and "opo" (yes, respectfully) goes a long way in interactions. When visiting religious sites like churches, dress modestly out of respect.

For safety, Tagaytay is considered relatively safe for tourists. However, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. In case of emergencies, local police can be reached at their hotline numbers, which are readily available online.

Essential apps for your trip include a reliable navigation app like Google Maps to help you get around Tagaytay and its surroundings. A ride-hailing app can also be useful for getting around if you don't have your own vehicle. For booking accommodations and attractions, Traveloka is an indispensable tool, offering convenience and great deals.

Consider downloading a translation app if you plan to interact with locals who may speak different dialects, although English is widely understood in tourist areas. Having offline maps downloaded can also be a lifesaver if you encounter areas with spotty internet connection, ensuring you can always find your way.

It is almost. They have a very nice staff, nice room and service, and beautiful view of taal from the balcony of the room. It only saddens us on the network connect - from 1 bar to nothing and WiFi - poor connection. But, if you're into getting away from toxic environment and decide to cut your communication for a day or so, to relax and find peace of mind. This is a perfect place. 👍🏻😉

They require vaccine cards not on their website nor on their policy. Carpets are not well maintained so is the pool area. You'll knowninsgantly that the hotel is not maintained my management anymore as everything looks and smells dirty. Too bad they're located on the heart of Tagaytay. I hope they fix these issues. Would have been one of the great hotels in the heart of Tagaytay

The hotel has a good view of taal however if you are on the standard room it can only view the pool. You have to go outside or the pool so that you can see the entire view. The carpet smells stinks, replace new blankets and pillows. I would suggest complete renovation so that it can be satisfying staycation for families. We only love the brewed coffee serve during breakfast.

We arrived at 2pm, availed 3 rooms, but only one room is available. It took 1 1/2 hours before the 2 rooms were made available. We still need to call the reception area to add towels and toiletries..since the room is good for four. I have called thrice before they were finally delivered.

The hotel was in perfect location..but I think the guards should have training on how to assist the guest they just stay inside the guard house..they should at least help the guest in going out specially if there is too heavy traffic..the food is not satisfying..but the room is ok it has a perfect view of the Mt taal
