Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers, reaching Pasay, Metro Manila, is a journey that offers multiple convenient options, depending on your starting point and preferred mode of transport. If you're coming from within Metro Manila, Pasay is easily accessible via major road networks like EDSA and Roxas Boulevard. Public transportation, including buses and jeepneys, frequently ply routes through Pasay, making it a straightforward commute from most parts of the capital region.

For those driving, navigating to Pasay is generally simple, though it's always wise to use a GPS app and be prepared for potential traffic, especially during rush hours.

If you're traveling from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Davao, flying is the most efficient method. Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is located in Pasay itself, serving as the primary international gateway and a major domestic hub. Several local airlines, such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia, offer frequent flights to Manila from key provincial airports.

Flight durations typically range from 1 to 2 hours, with ticket prices varying based on the season and how far in advance you book flight. Expect fares to range from approximately PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on booking time and airline promotions. Upon arrival at NAIA, you can easily take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or airport shuttle to reach your accommodation in Pasay.

For travelers looking for a more economical option or coming from Luzon-based provinces, inter-provincial bus travel is a viable choice. Major bus terminals in Pasay, such as those along EDSA and Taft Avenue, serve numerous routes connecting to various parts of Luzon. Companies like Victory Liner, Genesis Transport, and Five Star offer comfortable and safe bus services. Travel times can vary significantly, from a few hours for nearby provinces to over 10 hours for destinations further north.

Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, depending on the distance and bus class. This option allows you to see more of the country while en route to your Pasay destination.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

Pasay City, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate characterized by distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season generally runs from November to April, offering the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, visiting attractions like the Mall of Asia, or simply walking around.

The cooler months within the dry season, from December to February, are particularly favored by many, with temperatures being more comfortable. This period is also when many local holidays and festivities occur, adding to the city's lively atmosphere.

The wet season typically spans from May to October. While this period can bring frequent rainfall, it doesn't necessarily mean constant downpours. Often, the rain comes in heavy but short bursts, usually in the afternoon, allowing for plenty of sunshine during other parts of the day. Traveling during the wet season can be advantageous for budget-conscious travelers, as accommodation prices and flight fares might be lower due to fewer tourists.

It's also a time when the city's indoor attractions, such as museums and shopping malls, are perfect escapes from any unexpected rain showers.

For most Filipino travelers seeking a balance of good weather and a lively atmosphere, the period from November to February is often considered the best time to visit Pasay. This is when the weather is most agreeable, and the city is often abuzz with holiday celebrations. However, it's also the peak tourist season, meaning attractions can be more crowded, and prices for flights and accommodation might be higher.

If you prefer a more relaxed pace and potentially better deals, consider the shoulder months of the dry season, such as late October or early March, or even the early part of the wet season, provided you are prepared for occasional rain.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Pasay City, being a melting pot of cultures and a hub for travelers, offers a diverse culinary landscape that reflects the rich flavors of Filipino cuisine. When you're in the area, make sure to seek out classic dishes that showcase the heart of local cooking. One such must-try is **Adobo**, the unofficial national dish. Whether it's chicken or pork, slow-cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, its savory, tangy, and slightly sweet profile is deeply satisfying.

You'll find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some of the more casual dining spots around the Mall of Asia complex.

Another essential Filipino comfort food is **Sinigang**, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with pork, shrimp, or fish. The sourness, typically derived from tamarind, is balanced with a medley of fresh vegetables like kangkong, tomatoes, and onions. It’s a warming and refreshing dish, perfect for any time of day. Look for carinderias or Filipino restaurants that pride themselves on their authentic sinigang recipes; the taste can vary wonderfully from one cook to another.

For those who enjoy grilled specialties, **Inihaw na Liempo** (grilled pork belly) is a popular choice. Marinated and then grilled to perfection, the pork belly becomes tender and smoky, often served with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce. It’s a staple at Filipino gatherings and a common offering in many local restaurants. The smoky aroma and the succulent texture of the grilled pork make it an irresistible treat for many.

Don't leave Pasay without trying **La Paz Batchoy**, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo but widely loved across the Philippines. This rich broth is packed with pork, shrimp, and various toppings, offering a complex and deeply flavorful experience. It’s a filling meal that provides a true taste of Filipino comfort food. Many local eateries and food courts will have their own take on this beloved soup.

Finally, for a sweet ending or a midday treat, indulge in **Halo-Halo**. This iconic Filipino dessert is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a refreshing and visually appealing dessert that perfectly captures the vibrant spirit of Filipino flavors. You can find numerous stalls and restaurants offering this popular treat, especially in areas like the Mall of Asia, where you can enjoy it while taking in the bay view.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality, and Pasay is no exception. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Filipinos are generally respectful of elders and authority figures, so maintaining a courteous demeanor is appreciated. While the pace of life can be fast in Metro Manila, taking a moment to engage in friendly conversation is often welcomed.

Be aware that punctuality can sometimes be flexible, especially in social settings, but for appointments and business, it's best to aim for timeliness.

Safety in Pasay is generally comparable to other major urban centers. It's advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets or public transport terminals, to avoid petty theft. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items unnecessarily. When using taxis or ride-sharing services, ensure you use reputable apps or licensed taxis to avoid potential scams.

Emergency numbers for the police and ambulance services are readily available, and it's wise to have them saved on your phone. For immediate assistance, dial 911, which is the national emergency number.

For navigating Pasay and the wider Metro Manila area, several apps can be incredibly useful for Filipino travelers. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for booking taxis and private cars, offering convenience and transparent pricing. Navigation apps such as Google Maps are indispensable for finding your way around, estimating travel times, and identifying public transport routes. For foodies, apps like Zomato or local food blogs can help you discover highly-rated restaurants and eateries in the vicinity.

Having these tools on your smartphone will significantly enhance your travel experience, making it easier to explore and get around efficiently.

The hotel is close to the AirPort and very convenient if you are taking a domestic flight from terminal 3 the next day. The room was clean and the bed was firm but comfortable. Just be aware that there in no bathroom or shower in the room. You have to use ones in the hallway.

Across the street from the domestic terminal. Close to a lot of restaurants. Shuttle van for a fee to another terminal. Worth the price to stay here again.

Staff take advantage by charging parking fee for food deliveries that I have to pay. Over priced for they bought from outside like broiled tilapia for 180 pesos. Room is too small for 10day quarantine. Noisy air-condition. Noisy facility. You can hear footsteps and banging of doors in the middle of the night. No shelves at the restroom to put toiletries on. Don't provide complimentary items like soap, shampoo, etc. For 10day quarantine we hope to do laundry. The sink is too small. I took study materials for me. The table is too small for laptop and binder. Placers stool don't have back support. Mattress is covered with leather which is too hot on the back. Don't provide comforter, just two flat sheet which is not enough when the room is air-conditioned. Overall, I'm disappointed and was depressed with my whole stay.
