I always enjoyed staying at D Leonor. However, I may need to mention things like - the shower is not firm as it always slips and catching it while bathing. Awful that it makes all the bathroom wet, instead of keeping some area dry. Secondly there was no Clean-up Drive for no one even called or ask us to clean the room for, that the plates and dishes were stucked in the kitchen that I need to clean them up to avoid the smell of rotten foods. Same as no refilling our water, changing the towels, new soap, etc. Cable is not stable that you suddenly lose the watching the TV etc. Room is cold. Hot Shower is working, Toilet is clean, room is clean and big enough to have your own sofa and dining area. Still enjoyed my stay, yet wish the admin could see this service flaws.

Your Travel Guide to Davao City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Davao City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Davao City from Manila is most efficiently done by air. Several airlines operate daily flights connecting the two major hubs. Flight durations typically range from 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. Airfare can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options can often be found for around PHP 3,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip if booked strategically. You can easily compare and book your flight on Traveloka.

For travelers coming from other parts of Mindanao or Visayas, flying is also the most convenient option. Cities like Cebu and Iloilo have direct flights to Davao. If you prefer land travel, buses are available from various cities in Mindanao, though this is a significantly longer journey. For instance, a bus trip from Cagayan de Oro can take around 6 to 8 hours. While more time-consuming, bus travel offers a more economical alternative, with fares typically ranging from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500.

Driving to Davao City is possible for those coming from nearby Mindanao provinces. Major highways connect the city to areas like General Santos City and Tagum City. The journey involves navigating national roads and potentially some provincial routes. While specific toll costs are minimal on these routes, the primary consideration is the extended travel time and the need for a reliable vehicle.

Best Time to Visit Davao City

Davao City enjoys a tropical climate year-round, with temperatures generally ranging from 26°C to 31°C. The city is known for its relatively stable weather compared to other parts of the Philippines, as it is situated outside the typhoon belt. This makes it a viable destination throughout the year. However, there are periods that are considered more favorable for visiting.

The dry season, typically from March to May, is often considered the best time to visit for those who prefer sunny skies and less humidity. This period coincides with many local festivals, including the Kadayawan Festival in August, which celebrates the city's indigenous heritage and bountiful harvest. While August can be a bit wetter, the cultural festivities make it a peak season for tourism.

The cooler months, from November to February, also offer pleasant weather, with slightly lower temperatures and less rainfall. This period is ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Davao City offers a welcoming atmosphere and a wealth of experiences for every traveler.

Food and Dining Near Davao City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Davao City is a culinary delight, offering a diverse range of flavors that reflect its rich cultural heritage. One dish you absolutely must try is the Kinilaw na Malasugi. This local take on ceviche features fresh, raw marlin or tuna, marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing and zesty appetizer, often found in local eateries and seafood restaurants across the city.

Another local specialty that showcases Davao's agricultural bounty is the Durian. While its strong aroma is polarizing, many find the creamy, custard-like flesh of this king of fruits to be uniquely delicious. You can find fresh durian in local markets, especially during its peak season from August to October. For those hesitant to try it fresh, durian candies, pastries, and ice cream offer a more accessible introduction to its flavor.

For a taste of hearty Filipino comfort food with a local twist, try the Sinuglaw. This dish is a creative fusion of "sinugba" (grilled pork) and "kinilaw" (ceviche), offering a delightful combination of smoky and tangy flavors. It's a popular choice in many restaurants and is perfect for sharing with friends and family. Exploring the local food scene is a significant part of the Davao experience.

Don't leave Davao without trying the local version of La Paz Batchoy, a noodle soup that is both comforting and flavorful. While originating from Iloilo, Davao's rendition often incorporates local ingredients and spices, making it a unique culinary experience. You can find excellent bowls of La Paz Batchoy in local carinderias and restaurants, perfect for a satisfying meal.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Davao City

Davao City is known for its generally peaceful environment and the warm hospitality of its people. The local culture is a blend of indigenous traditions and influences from various Filipino ethnic groups. When interacting with locals, politeness and respect are always appreciated. A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or showing deference goes a long way.

Safety is a priority in Davao City, and it is considered one of the safest major cities in the Philippines. However, it's always wise to exercise standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places, and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Keep your valuables secure and be cautious when walking alone at night. In case of emergencies, the general emergency number is 911, which is a reliable contact for police, fire, and medical assistance.

For seamless travel, having a few essential apps on your smartphone can be very helpful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are widely used for convenient and safe transportation around the city. Food delivery apps can be useful if you prefer dining in your room at D'Leonor Hotel. Local news apps can keep you updated on events and any advisories. Having a reliable map application is also crucial for navigating Davao's streets.

Understanding local customs can enhance your experience. While Davao is generally progressive, dressing modestly when visiting religious sites is always a good practice. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service in restaurants and hotels. Embracing the local culture and being mindful of these tips will ensure a more enjoyable and respectful visit to Davao City.

I enjoyed my stay here, the staff are friendly and accommodating. The room I stayed in was a little old-looking but comfortable enough for me. I had a balcony room, which was nice for sitting out there with a local brew, watching a bustling street.

Staff are friendly and efficient. Very helpful, too. Junior suite was spacious but the place is old - needs upgrade. Old bedsheets and pillows and furnitures including the shower.Towels are new though which is good. Location is alright - just opposite is Jollibee and McDonalds, about 100meters is Mang Inasal. This is the 2nd time my wife and I have stayed, on the whole a nice hotel. The only down sides are the following: No tea towels for drying dishes, also the curtains can not be drawn fully to have privacy as gaps at the end gives views from outside especially bedroom. The last thing is about meals, the meals were ordered for 7:30 am, didn't arrive till 7:50 am and small meals.

I booked this accommodation for a 10 day stay in Davao City, Philippines. Shortly after paying the full amount, I received several messages from the property saying there was a mistake made by Hotels.com and I would not receive the amenities as advertised unless i paid 800 php (14.00 usd) more per day! I contacted Hotels.com who promised that they would take care of it yet the messages still kept coming. This was an added stress to the preparation for my first overseas trip and as the end result I had to accept a location that was NOT what I wanted with the amenities I was not pleased with. I actually had to change rooms because of roaches. As I was planning to "pop the question" to my girlfriend, this location I was herded to made the ambiance of the anticipated occasion less than desirable, All in all, the owner seemed to be greedy and non complaint with the rules of the Hotels.com website and in my opinion should be banned from using this site altogether. In retrospect, it seems to be a "bait and switch" scenario that the qualified and dedicated customers of Hotels.com should never be put through. Although I received a 75.00 coupon to use on my next booking it does not make up for the inconvenience and stress incurred as a result of this property owners incessant demands. Steer clear from this place unless you enjoy being let down after you have paid your money for services and accommodations that they have no intention of providing at their advertised rate.

Our stay was amazing and comfortable. Joan the receptionist is accommodating, I just hope that all other receptionists are always smiling too and give this same friendly aura that Joan does. At times, I can't help but feel that some of the staff or locals around are aloof to talk to us once they found out that we are from Manila and cannot speak or understand their native dialect. Overall though, we are contented with our stay not just in D' Leonor but in Davao City.

Also near seven-eleven.
