Regardless if the hotel was 5 Star or 1 Star, the staff were absolutely exceptional! They went beyond the call of duty to make sure I was comfortable and when leaving, I left my iPad in the room. The ladies ran down my taxi to make sure I got my property. Beyond the call, the staff is excellent. Sincerely, Tai D. Doram.

Your Travel Guide to Makati as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Makati from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers, reaching Makati is a straightforward process, with multiple options available depending on your starting point and preferences. If you're coming from within Metro Manila, taxis, ride-sharing services like Grab, and the MRT are the most common and efficient ways to get to Makati. The MRT, particularly the Guadalupe station which is relatively close to Dragonlink Suites, offers a cost-effective way to bypass road traffic.

A typical MRT ride within the city can cost between PHP 15 to PHP 30.

If you're traveling from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Davao, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is your best bet. From NAIA, you can then take a taxi or Grab to Makati, which usually costs between PHP 300 to PHP 500 and takes about 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. For those looking to plan their air travel, using Traveloka to book flight tickets in advance can often secure better fares.

Expect round-trip flights from Cebu or Davao to Manila to range from approximately PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000, depending on the airline and booking time.

For travelers who prefer land travel or are coming from nearby provinces, bus travel is a viable and economical option. Major bus terminals in Metro Manila serve routes from various parts of Luzon. For instance, buses from Northern Luzon typically arrive at terminals in Cubao or Pasay, from where you can take a taxi, Grab, or the MRT to reach Makati. Buses from Southern Luzon also have terminals in areas like Buendia or Alabang, offering similar onward travel options.

Bus fares can range from PHP 400 to PHP 1,000 for longer provincial routes, with travel times varying significantly based on distance and traffic.

Best Time to Visit Makati

Makati, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season generally runs from November to April, offering the most pleasant weather for exploring the city. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity and less rainfall, making it ideal for walking around, visiting outdoor attractions, and enjoying the city's al fresco dining options.

This period, especially from December to February, is considered peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season typically spans from May to October. While this period is characterized by frequent rain showers, it doesn't mean you should avoid visiting. The rain often comes in short, intense bursts, usually in the afternoon, leaving the rest of the day clear. Traveling during the wet season can offer a more relaxed atmosphere with fewer tourists and potentially lower prices for flights and hotels.

It's a good time for travelers who prefer a more laid-back experience and don't mind occasional downpours, perhaps using the time to explore indoor attractions like museums and shopping malls.

For a balanced experience, the shoulder months of November and April can be excellent choices. You can often enjoy good weather similar to the dry season but with fewer crowds than the absolute peak months. Ultimately, the best time to visit Makati depends on your personal preferences. If sunshine and outdoor activities are your priority, aim for the dry season.

If you're looking for a more budget-friendly and less crowded trip, the wet season can still offer a rewarding experience with careful planning.

Makati's culinary landscape is a reflection of the Philippines' diverse gastronomic heritage, offering everything from traditional comfort food to modern interpretations. It can be prepared with various meats like pork, beef, or shrimp, and loaded with fresh vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. The distinct sourness is what makes it so unique and beloved by Filipinos.

Many local carinderias and restaurants in Makati serve hearty bowls of Sinigang that will warm your soul.

For those seeking a taste of grilled perfection, **Inihaw na Liempo** (grilled pork belly) is a fantastic choice. Marinated pork belly is grilled over charcoal until tender and slightly charred, often served with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce. The smoky flavor and succulent texture of well-prepared Inihaw na Liempo are simply irresistible. You'll find this popular dish in many Filipino restaurants and even at some street food stalls around Makati.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Makati

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality, and this is very much present in Makati. Locals are generally friendly and helpful. When interacting, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. While English is widely spoken, especially in business districts like Makati, learning a few basic Tagalog phrases can enhance your interactions. Respect for elders and a generally relaxed approach to time are cultural nuances you might observe.

When it comes to safety in Makati, it's important to be aware of your surroundings, as you would in any major city. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded areas like markets or public transport. Be mindful of petty theft, and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. For emergencies, the general emergency number in the Philippines is 911. It's also wise to have the contact details of your hotel readily accessible.

For navigating the city and staying connected, several apps are essential for Filipino travelers. Grab is indispensable for booking rides, food delivery, and even grocery shopping, making it a convenient all-in-one app. Google Maps is crucial for navigation, providing real-time traffic updates and public transport information. GCash or Maya are highly recommended for cashless transactions, as many establishments accept these mobile payment methods, and they are useful for splitting bills or paying for services.

Having these apps on your smartphone will significantly streamline your travel experience in Makati.

Doram.

So far the most TERRIBLE HOTEL I ever been. The location is Ok, Is super dirty, in the red area where most probably ladyboys and hookers pass the night at same Hotel, was dirty, super strong smell of cheap chemical cleaning stuff.

A cheap place when you just want to crash. At 25 US I sent it is ok. Worn furniture, multi legged animals racing around.... not a great place but safe and ok clean- just a place. And if you are into the local (redlight) scene, then I suppose this is a great find. I left after a night as I want a nice place to call home.

The staff at this hotel are courteous, friendly, and very helpful . The location is great and the room is big and clean but the problem with this hotel is roaches they are everywhere In the room and hallway. I would give this hotel a 4 if they get rid of the roaches, they did spray my room almost daily to solve the problem but that did not work I still saw the roaches every day.

Condotel type place. Have stayed in 2 different rooms and one slightly better condition than other, though consistent layout and features. One missing a TV remote used mobile phone IR remote. Would stay again at the same price it's good value. Don't expect to be pampered it's not a hotel.

Decent apartment for the money. Had a few issues with the WiFi but they did try and sort it for us. Maybe a little empty of kitchen stuff, could do with a few more utensils and cutlery if you want to cook for yourself but overall pretty good. Comfy bed.

The hotel was ok clean. But they dont have iron available and no hair dryer in the room which is very essential. And one more thing, i came in my room and found 2 bottles of beer inside the fridge that other guests might have left. Then i left the room and buy something for like 10 minutes, when I came back it was gone. It means somebody went inside without my permission. Ever since I didnt feel safe and always locked my luggage and watched when they do housekeeping. Its sneaky and going behind behind a guest back is aweful. They should have said something. Totally disresepctful.

It was not what I was expecting, looking from the outside, The building is a bit old, but the room itself is big, one bedroom. The interior is also very cozy and the view is amazing: Makati skyline at night. Only downside I encountered is parking can be a bit tricky.
