The hotel is under renovations but there is a safe passage for customers. The hotel room was good but the noise from the construction can be heard inside the room. Sometimes the smoke from outside enters the bedroom which is disturbing. The shower curtains does not hold back the water in wetting the whole washroom. The beds are comfortable.

Your Travel Guide to Dumaguete City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dumaguete City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Dumaguete City from Manila and other major Philippine hubs is primarily done through air travel. Several airlines operate flights to Sibulan Airport (DGT), which serves Dumaguete. Flight durations typically range from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the airline and any layovers. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance through platforms like Traveloka can help secure more affordable options, with prices sometimes starting around PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip during promotional periods.

For those who prefer land and sea travel, it is possible to reach Dumaguete via ferry or bus connections, though this is a significantly longer journey. From Manila, you would typically travel by bus to a port city like Batangas or Lucena, then take a ferry to Dumaguete, or travel to another port like Cebu and take a ferry from there.

Bus fares can range from PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000 one way, and ferry tickets vary based on the class of service. This option is best suited for travelers with ample time who wish to see more of the Philippines along the way.

When planning your trip, consider booking your book flight to Dumaguete City well in advance, especially if you are traveling during peak seasons like holidays or summer breaks. This not only helps in securing your preferred flight schedule but also often leads to significant savings on airfare. Traveloka’s platform allows you to compare prices and schedules from various airlines, making the booking process efficient.

Best Time to Visit Dumaguete City

Dumaguete City enjoys a tropical climate, with generally warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, typically from November to May, is considered the most favorable time to visit. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the city, and visiting nearby islands and natural attractions.

The period between June and October often brings more frequent rainfall, characteristic of the Philippines' wet season. While occasional showers are common, they usually do not disrupt travel plans for extended periods. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation rates, visiting during the shoulder months or the wetter season can still be a rewarding experience, provided you are prepared for the possibility of rain.

For Filipino travelers looking to experience local festivals, the city celebrates its Charter Day on August 24th, which is often marked with various events and activities. Planning your visit around this time can offer a deeper insight into the local culture and community spirit. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Dumaguete City offers a welcoming atmosphere and plenty to explore.

Food and Dining Near Dumaguete City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Dumaguete City is a culinary delight, offering a range of flavors that appeal to the Filipino palate. One local specialty you should seek out is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that is perfect in the tropical heat.

Another must-try is SUTUKIL, a popular dining concept where you choose your fresh seafood, and then select how you want it cooked: Sugba (grilled), Tula (soup), or Kilaw (marinated raw). This interactive dining experience allows you to savor the freshest catch prepared to your liking, a true highlight for seafood lovers visiting the city.

Don't leave Dumaguete without trying Silliman University’s famous Sans Rival cake. This rich dessert features layers of meringue, buttercream, and cashews, offering a delightful combination of textures and a sweet, nutty flavor. It’s a perfect treat to enjoy with coffee or as a celebratory dessert. Exploring local eateries and cafes will introduce you to these and other delicious Filipino dishes.

For a taste of local snacks and quick bites, explore the eateries along Rizal Boulevard. Here, you can find various grilled items, fresh fruit shakes, and local delicacies. Trying these local flavors is an integral part of the travel experience, allowing you to connect with the culture and people of Dumaguete City through its food.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dumaguete City

Dumaguete City is renowned for its friendly and hospitable residents, often referred to as the "City of Gentle People." A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders goes a long way.

When it comes to safety, Dumaguete is generally considered one of the safer cities in the Philippines. However, it's always wise to exercise standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, keep your valuables secure, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. The local emergency number for police is typically 911, and it's good to have this readily accessible.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A ride-hailing app or a local transport app can be useful for navigating the city, though tricycles are ubiquitous and can be hailed directly. A reliable map application is indispensable for finding your way around. For communication, ensure you have a messaging app like WhatsApp or Messenger to stay connected.

Always good VFM and close to city centre. Although a bit smaller the downstairs rooms are just as good as the family room. So book smaller room with small charge for extra bed.

The restaurant offered sizzling bulalo! We tried other dishes and we were happy with the flavours and portion sizes. Staff were friendly and courteous. The twin bedroom we were assigned was small but we had enough room to move around. The bathroom was newly renovated, although I wonder why they didnt go all out and change the door, the paint of which was cracked.

For the price, it's not a bad place to stay. Had a few problem, like shower always flooding, no mirror in the bathroom, if you want to shave and WiFi too slow. A little far from downtown but for only 10 pesos you can take a tricycle ride. The staff was very helpful and the food was excellent. There is major renovation going on ,so you will be a bit surprised when you arrive...

When i arrived there was a staff who accomodated me and i was made to wait for around 10 minutes since my room was not yet ready. When my room was finally ready i was assisted to my room in the second floor. The man who assisted me opened the door for me(upon entering my room there was still a lot of dust on the floor just outside my door and floor was still a little wet) and the staff immediately turned on the aircon of the room and closed the door behind him leaving my baggage outside the door where he left it. At night front desk kept on calling first around 9 pm about extra person room charge which is infact already paid upon booking of the room online. next call around 10 pm and 15 minutes later the phone rang again which made my husband very furious so hanged the phone all night so as they would stop calling. It is my first time to experience being called by front desk or whichever department by the hotel at around 9 pm onwards. very rude to be disturbed which can be settled upon checkout. Also our room was situated near the fire exit which we can over hear staff talking, someone talking on the radio which made rest on our part very hard. I would not come back to stay in this place when im in dumaguete at their rate with exclusive of breakfast. There are a lot of accomodations with better services, facilities and inclusions.this accomodation is by far the disappointment of all 4 other accomodations during my 8 days stay in dumaguete

Good budget friendly accomodation. Property has a restaurant and food there was nice. A bit far away from centre of action, better to have own bike or ride a trycicle. Personnel is nice as well, i had an issue with my tv but they fixed it fast.

Hotel in disrepair. Construction on half the building, and the front of house. Missed entrance twice. Room misrepresented, had to pay extra for the room sold to me because of no refund policy. Cost me, $4200.00 pesos extra for a room with no aconditioning. Switched rooms three nights...all were malfunctioning rooms. Prices in "restaurant" three times too expensive, no extras! Very disappointed with ratings, conditions and quality deceitfully expressed on Hotel. Only thing good was a Christian school restaurant down the street.

Room smelled like insecticide, something in room left our bodies with bed bites, one of us got some spoiled food in the dining room for breakfast. The Sizzling Bulalo was good and the size of the jr executive suite was nice but rooms need to be updated.
