Your Travel Guide to Sipalay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Sipalay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila, the most efficient way to reach Sipalay City is by air. You'll want to book flight tickets to either Bacolod-Silay Airport (BCD) or Dumaguete Airport (DGT). Flights from Manila to Bacolod typically range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 6,000, with a flight duration of about 1 hour and 15 minutes. From Bacolod-Silay Airport, you can take a taxi or van to Bacolod City South Bus Terminal.

From the Bacolod City South Bus Terminal, look for buses or vans bound for Sipalay City. The journey by land takes approximately 4 to 5 hours and fares usually range from PHP 300 to PHP 500. This route is popular among Filipino travelers who prefer to combine air and land travel for a balance of speed and cost-effectiveness. Ensure you check the latest schedules for bus departures.

If you opt for Dumaguete Airport (DGT), the land travel to Sipalay City is longer, potentially taking 5 to 6 hours. From Dumaguete City, you would also need to find bus or van services heading to Sipalay. While this route might be less direct, it can be an option depending on flight availability and pricing. Whichever airport you choose, planning your onward journey in advance is recommended.

Best Time to Visit Sipalay City

The ideal time to visit Sipalay City for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for beach activities, diving, and snorkeling. The weather is consistently pleasant, making it easier to plan your itinerary without worrying about heavy rainfall.

The peak tourist season typically falls between December and February, coinciding with holiday breaks and cooler weather in other parts of the country. While you'll enjoy the best weather, expect higher accommodation prices and larger crowds. For a more relaxed and potentially budget-friendly trip, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, April, or May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rain showers and typhoons. While Sipalay is generally less prone to typhoons than other regions, it's still a possibility. However, this period offers fewer tourists and lower rates, which can be appealing if you don't mind the chance of intermittent rain. Always check weather forecasts before and during your trip.

Food and Dining Near Sipalay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Sipalay, make sure to try fresh seafood, a staple in coastal Negros Occidental. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are commonly available and prepared in simple yet delicious ways, often seasoned with salt, pepper, and calamansi. Many local eateries and restaurants serve these, allowing you to savor the ocean's bounty.

Another local delicacy to seek out is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, creating a tangy and refreshing dish. It’s a perfect appetizer or light meal, especially on a warm day, and showcases the fresh ingredients available in the region.

Don't leave Negros Occidental without trying Piaya, a flat, unleavened bread filled with muscovado sugar and sometimes flavored with ube or pandan. While often considered a pasalubong (souvenir), it's also a delightful snack to enjoy with coffee or as a sweet treat. You can find this in local markets and bakeries.

For those with a sweet tooth, try the local delicacies made with muscovado sugar, a less refined sugar that imparts a distinct caramel flavor. This sugar is used in many local desserts and pastries, offering a unique taste of the region's agricultural heritage. Exploring local markets will reveal various sweet treats incorporating this ingredient.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Sipalay City

The people of Negros Occidental are known for their hospitality and generally speak Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) and Tagalog, with English widely understood in tourist areas. A simple "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) in Hiligaynon can go a long way in showing respect for local customs. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas, and dress modestly when visiting churches or local communities.

Sipalay City is generally a safe place for travelers. However, as with any destination, it's wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. It's also advisable to use reputable transportation options, like tricycles from designated stands or those recommended by your resort.

For emergencies, know that local police and medical services are available. It's helpful to have the resort's contact number handy. For communication and navigation, ensure you have a reliable mobile signal. Apps like Google Maps are useful for getting around, while ride-hailing apps are less common in Sipalay, so relying on local tricycles is standard.

Other useful apps include a currency converter if you're dealing with foreign exchange, a translation app for basic phrases if you plan to interact extensively with locals who may not speak English, and a weather app to stay updated on conditions. Having these tools can enhance your travel experience and preparedness.

The property was well situated but the steps to and from the beach are not for the weak or faint hearted. If you have health issues or weak feet, legs, hips you should look for another location. The staff is friendly and the owner is hands on. Working with new divers and greeting guests. No food or drinks are allowed on the property, you must buy theirs and snacking is very limiting. They took good care of introducing my fiance to diving. I would like to come back to dive again, but will probably look for an easier pathway to get to the beach.

Being partially handicapped I didn't like that there was nothing in the advertisement that the site is completely inaccessible for people with disabilities. Also I ordered and paid for a room with a queen size bed and got put into a room with two single beds with low quality mattresses.

When we arrived it was raining. The parking attendant helped me back up my car(was not necessary), but nobody helped us with our luggage down an extremely long and steep staircase(in the rain). Then we were sat down to tell us there rules and services they could sell us. We were then released so we could walk up the long wet stairs(without help to carry our luggage) to rest after a long drive. Would also be helpful to fill out the hotel form for your guests after the guest presents there passport or ID with the pertinent information.

My partner (girlfriend) and I had a three-week stay here. I completed 33 dives and was most satisfied with the service of the dive team. The dive shop is well organized, the banka (boat) crew is attentive and the dive guides are friendly and provide safe dives. Our room was kept clean, and linen changed regularly. Breakfast was provided with our room package and was of sufficient portion to most days, see me through to a late afternoon dinner. All meals were well prepared, tasty, reasonable cost and again, of generous portion. The wait staff is friendly, and we were greeted each time we entered the restaurant. When there was an early morning dive, the restaurant opened early so we could have breakfast before departure. The security team is ever present but rarely seen. Before our arrival we were told the airport shuttle fee to the resort from Bacolod airport was no longer P4800 but P6000. I see it’s still posted on their Expedia page as P4800. No complaint, just be advised. All other fees were as posted. My partner’s comment: “We had so much fun.”

This resort is a gem, something small and precious. We do a fair bit of travelling so we know somewhere is special when we find it. Easy Diving is perfect for people who are looking for a high quality resort away from the crowds, where you are looked after, and can enjoy amazing coral reefs, without having to pay a ridiculous price. From the moment we arrived at the airport we were looked after by Christian and the team. Food and drinks were great, and the house reef was stunning, easily accessible by swimming or the good quality SUP/paddleboards available at the resort. The PADI dive centre was excellent, with wonderful staff and wonderful sites. We did a day trip to Danjugan marine reserve too which was well worth the trip. We will definitely be returning.

This was a last minute weekend away to visit my fiancees family. The resort is nice. Staff very friendly. The food at the restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. As other restaurants were far we chose to eat dinner at the resort. Free breakfast was also good. A nice beach that was fairly clean. It is about 7.5 km from Sipalay. Far from any conveniences As other reviews state, the resort bungalos are on the side of a mountain. Many steps going to the upper bungalos. Rather steep climb Not for elderly or people with bad health. Plus there are no handrails and the steps are steep and poorly lighted at night. A little dangerous even for healthy people. The First night when we returned to our room and wanted a shower before sleeping we discovered hot water heater was not working. It was a little late around 9:30 pm. Staff was reluctant to provide resolution and didnt want to move us to another bungalo until i insisted. They gave excuses ie no maintenance staff, said heater was working earlier. In Several other rooms water heater not working also. After 1 hr of my prodding they relocated us. But other than that problem it was a nice stay.

We loved the staff, housekeeping, restaurant and diving. Things to know are that there was never wifi in the room. Sipalay internet goes down. This place is on the side of a mountain and so there are many many steps up to the rooms. Mine had 50 steps and the steps are double high compared to the states. So we were on a stair stepper each time. But it did build up our muscles :) . Good to know if you are a bit arthritic or mature. haha

This is a good place to stay. It’s really quiet and peaceful. The food is good and reasonable priced, so we just stayed there for our meals. We only stayed 3 days, next time we will stay longer as this is a hidden gem in Sipalay.

We had a good and relaxing time. The bedroom and bathroom were very comfortable but we had problems with the air conditioning, it kept turning off all the time. The food could be improved too. Very clean and beautiful! We enjoyed it!

I only stayed 1 night and wished I stayed longer Great location on beach with good restuarant. Only thing that was hard for me was many many big steps on stairs, like climbing a Maya pyriamid.

Fantastic location - quiet, remote, and extremely relaxing. Beautiful views of the water directly on the beach, including beachfront restaurant with delicious food and extremely friendly and attendant staff. The dive shop and instructors were professional and friendly. Highly recommended!

Amazing place. Amazing food. Peaceful. MISSING LONG PORTION OF A HANDRAIL. Maybe 100? Meters. Life safety hazard. One day an older or a person miss judging a step will hurt badly or kill himself rolling down the hill. BEYOND ME WHY A SITUATION LIKE THAT EXISTS!!!
