Elegant Star Apartelle, Tagaytay City
My family and I checked-in at this hotel last August 16, for an overnight stay.
Elegant Star Apartelle is a small hotel, and is ideal for the budget-conscious who also want a cozy and comfortable place to sleep. I think it is fairly new, the facade and interiors of the building were clean and fresh-looking. There was no elevator, maybe because the building only had 3 floors. There were parking spaces available, although it was open-parking in front of the hotel. Nevertheless, it seemed secure enough because the security guard's post was just beside the parking area.
It's located along the Aguinaldo Highway, just a few meters away from the rotonda. The location is ideal because it's right in between the restaurant area overlooking Taal Lake, and Summit Ridge hotel where you can do grocery shopping for snacks at the Robinson's Supermarket there. If you are a Catholic, there is a church nearby if you want to attend mass. There is also a gasoline station across the street.
My family opted to stay in separate rooms: a Family Executive and a Standard B. The Standard B room is ideal for couples; or couples with a small child. It's airconditioned, with a queen-sized bed, and cable TV. The Family Executive room fit a group composed of myself, my mom and dad, a toddler, and a nanny. This room can accommodate 4 adults, or maybe even 5 if provided with an extra bed. It's airconditioned, with 1 king-sized bed and 1 queen-sized bed. It also had a dining set, refrigerator, microwave, and kitchenette. It was also fitted with an LCD TV, with cable channels. Both rooms had comfortably-sized bathrooms. The water in the toilet and faucets were strong; however, the shower was weak. A water heater was installed in the bathroom. The standard toiletries were not provided, except for 2 small pieces of soap. Although they did provide towels. The decor was homey. The rooms, bathrooms, and linens were clean.
The staff was friendly, and approachable, and willing to assist. There was an instance when we were requesting for hot water so we could clean baby bottles, and they provided us with an airpot so we can have hot water anytime. Another example of their customer service was when we ran out of parking space in the area where big vehicles could comfortably fit. They gave us what I think was the manager's/owner's parking space as it was the only one that was covered. Checking in and out was a breeze, but make sure to bring enough cash as they don't accept credit card payments.
I am not able to give feedback on the food as we did not eat there.
1. The rooms facing the highway could be quite noisy at night, with all the trucks, motorcycles, and tricycles passing by. Although I don't know what they can do about that, except maybe think of a way to soundproof the rooms better.
2. Please train the hotel staff to handle concerns in a more professional and proactive manner. Here is why I said that:
It was unfortunate that during our stay, the district encountered a water supply problem. A transformer blew up at the plant. Some of us were still able to shower because the hotel had saved up water in their external tank. However, 2 people in our group were not able to shower because the water eventually ran out. My dad went downstairs to talk to the night manager. The manager just replied by apologizing and saying that the district "was having water supply problems and that all hotels in the area were affected." There was no advise from the manager on what they were doing/going to do to resolve it, and moves at all to inform the other guests about what happened.
No water at all overnight.
The next morning, my dad talked to the day manager and he was the one who explained about the transformer that blew up, and the reason why water was not delivered right away.
That made all the difference. We understood the situation right away, and accepted that it was really just bad luck, and not a deliberate attempt by the hotel to not inform the guests about "water supply problems" for fear of losing a sale.
Putting that unlucky event aside, all in all, it was a good stay. The hotel has good value for money: Standard B was at Php2,500; and Family Executive was at Php4,500. The staff had good customer service orientation in terms of addressing guests' direct requests, but may need more training in terms of anticipating what needs to be done.
Sorry I only have photos of the Family Executive room.
