I loved the rooms! It's big, clean, and completely equipped. The price is cheap compared to other hotels. I wish they would offer meals tho. There's no restaurant in the immediate vicinity, and you have to walk a bit to get to Robinsons mall and eat.

Your Travel Guide to Iloilo City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Iloilo City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Iloilo City from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Several airlines operate regular flights to Iloilo Airport (ILO), with travel times typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes from Manila. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options are often available.

For those who prefer land and sea travel, bus routes connect Iloilo to various parts of Luzon and the Visayas, often involving ferry transfers. This option is more time-consuming, potentially taking over 24 hours, but can be a more economical choice for travelers on a tighter budget. The journey offers a chance to see more of the Philippine landscape.

Driving to Iloilo City is also an option for adventurous travelers with their own vehicles. This typically involves a combination of land travel and ferry crossings, particularly if coming from Luzon. It offers the most flexibility for exploring the region at your own pace once you arrive.

Best Time to Visit Iloilo City

Iloilo City enjoys a tropical climate, with generally warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, from November to April, is often considered the best time to visit, offering sunny days perfect for exploring the city and its surrounding areas. This period generally sees less rainfall, making outdoor activities more predictable and enjoyable.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher humidity and more frequent rain showers. While you might encounter some downpours, these are often brief and followed by sunshine. Traveling during the shoulder months or the wet season can sometimes mean fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, offering a different kind of travel experience.

Food and Dining Near Iloilo City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Iloilo is celebrated as the "Food Capital of the Philippines," and for good reason. A must-try is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, famously originating from the La Paz district. Its rich, savory broth is a true taste of Iloilo. You can find authentic versions in local eateries and markets throughout the city.

Another local delicacy is Pancit Molo, a type of dumpling soup filled with ground pork and shrimp, served in a flavorful broth. Unlike other pancit dishes, this one focuses on the delicious dumplings. It's a comforting and flavorful dish that showcases Iloilo's culinary heritage. Many restaurants offer this as a staple.

Don't leave Iloilo without trying KBL (Kadyos, Baboy, Langka), a unique stew made with pigeon peas, pork, and young jackfruit. The combination of flavors and textures is distinctively Ilonggo. For seafood lovers, grilled fish and other fresh catches are abundant, often prepared simply to highlight their natural flavors. Exploring the local markets and smaller carinderias will lead you to these authentic culinary treasures.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Iloilo City

Ilonggos are known for their hospitality and gentle demeanor. A common greeting is "Maayong adlaw" (Good day). It's polite to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or showing respect, similar to other Filipino cultures. Understanding and respecting local customs will enhance your interactions and overall experience in the city.

Iloilo City is generally considered a safe place for travelers. However, as with any urban area, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and any local friends or contacts readily available.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for convenient transport, and a translation app might be helpful if you plan to venture into more rural areas where local dialects are more prevalent. Having a reliable booking app like Traveloka is also key for managing your accommodation and activities.

Booked my hotel last minute, around 4 hours before my scheduled checked in. The transaction was smooth and the hotel's staff were actually helpful but I was really disappointed with the hotel room and facilities. Let me enumerate some disappointments: 1. Wifi is only available in the lobby/common area. 2. Basic toiletries were unavailable. 3. Outlets were far from bed and limited for plugging 2 devices (either you plug tv and cable, or you plug your phone charger). 4. No bidette :( 5. Musty smell :(

Place was good, though wifi is not available per room (only at the lobby). Staffs are accommodating especially their security guards. I just find the toilet inconvenient (no flush sometimes - we asked for assistance 3x during our stay due to that). But overall - our stay their is good. Hotel location is accessible to all PUV/PUJ. It is near the port also (both Bacolod and Guimaras). Robinsons Place Iloilo is a walking distance from the Hotel also.

For a small space, it had everything we need!!! A clean and comfy bed, air conditioner is cold (&new), bathroom is neat & has hot shower. The design of the hotel is very good too! The hotel seems new and well kept. The location is great! It's near the places we needed to go (Robinsons IloIlo) & just a few walks to get to Ortiz Wharf. Jeeps also pass along the street outside the hotel that almost has all the routes through IloIlo! I loved our stay here
