Your Travel Guide to Makati as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Makati from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common and efficient method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer frequent flights to Manila from various provincial capitals. Flight durations range from about 30 minutes from Caticlan to over an hour from Davao or Cebu. Fares can vary significantly, but booking your flight in advance, especially during off-peak seasons, can help secure cheaper tickets.

From NAIA, you can reach Makati via taxi, ride-sharing services like Grab, or the public bus system. A taxi or Grab ride typically costs between PHP 300 to PHP 500, taking approximately 30-45 minutes without heavy traffic. For a more budget-friendly option, you can take an airport bus or a public bus heading towards Makati, though this may involve transfers and longer travel times.

If you are traveling from Luzon provinces like Pampanga or Baguio, bus travel is a viable option. Numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila serve these routes, with fares generally ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 700, depending on the origin and bus company. The journey can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. For those driving their own vehicles, major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Makati, with toll fees varying based on the route taken.

Best Time to Visit Makati

Makati, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season from November to April and the wet season from May to October. The dry season generally offers more pleasant weather for outdoor activities, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C. This period, particularly from December to February, is considered the coolest and most comfortable time to visit, making it a popular choice for both local and international tourists.

The wet season, while characterized by frequent rain showers, can also be a good time to visit if you are looking for fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. The rain usually comes in short, intense bursts, often in the afternoon, so it doesn't necessarily disrupt travel plans entirely. It's advisable to carry an umbrella or raincoat during these months. Regardless of the season, Makati's indoor attractions, shopping malls, and restaurants remain accessible and enjoyable.

Food and Dining Near Makati — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is a delightful fusion of indigenous flavors and influences from various cultures, and Makati offers a fantastic array of places to sample these dishes. One absolute must-try is Adobo, the unofficial national dish, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. You can find excellent versions in many local eateries and even in some upscale restaurants around Makati.

Another beloved dish is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, most commonly made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat like pork, beef, or fish, along with various vegetables. The tangy flavor is incredibly comforting and a staple in Filipino households. For a taste of grilled perfection, try Lechon Kawali, deep-fried crispy pork belly, which offers a satisfying crunch with every bite. It's often served with a side of dipping sauce.

For those seeking a more substantial meal, Kare-Kare is a rich stew made with oxtail, tripe, and vegetables in a thick peanut sauce, traditionally served with bagoong (shrimp paste). The unique flavor profile is a true representation of Filipino culinary heritage. Don't forget to try Halo-Halo for dessert, a refreshing mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream – perfect for the tropical climate.

Makati's dining scene is diverse, ranging from humble carinderias serving authentic home-style cooking to sophisticated restaurants. Exploring the side streets and smaller food courts within malls can lead you to hidden culinary treasures. For a convenient way to discover and book dining experiences, consider checking out local food guides or using apps that list popular restaurants in the area.

Staff is super helpful. Aside from that, and the low room rate, the rest of the experience was subpar. Classic experience of ‘you get what you pay for’, but fell short even in that sense. The in-room safe was missing its door, rendering it unusable. The WiFi was painfully slow (scrolling short videos, for example, had regular intermittent buffering), and made for a tedious online experience. The bottom edge of the shower curtain was about 15mm too short, not reaching the top of the shower enclosure, causing it to easily allow water to splash outside the shower and onto the regular bathroom floor, often drenching the bath mat. The hotel building is situated within 20 meters of an intersection with plenty of traffic, and the road the hotel is on is a bit of a side road commonly used by motor bikes and cars as a bit of a short cut. Some of these vehicles are VERY loud and the sound comes right into the room, as the windows face the street and the rooms have seemingly zero sound proofing. So any time of day, or night, be prepared to possibly be awoken by loud vehicles driving by (all rooms I imagine would have this same issue, as its not a large building and most of the rooms face the street). So, overall it was fine. The aircon worked well. A few of the issues may have been room specific. Yes, its a budget type of hotel, so one shouldn’t always expect a lot. Aside from the exterior noise and poor WiFi performance, with the other issues fixed it would have been slightly better.

This hotel is less than a kilometer away from my place in Makati so it is ideal for me to use it as quarantine facility. The Asst. Manager in charge when I was there was serious and strict about the hotel's part in the quarantine protocols. Ms Dalit was also resourceful in resolving issues related to my stay. The room I stayed in was spacious and clean. The only negative impression I had was the linens have seen so many wash cycles that they need to be replaced.

The people who worked there were very friendly. But overall the place is dirty, needs work, Roche's all over the place. You have to ask for a change of sheets or something else. Would not recommend staying here

This hotel needs renovation. No stable water as far heat and cold. Noisy as room not sound proof can hear vehicles - hard to sleep. Found Closet and drawers with small pest.

First of all we had to change 3 rooms before find a suitable one , electrical problem, TV didn’t work, very noisy from the street, then breakfast room service, they give what they like , no suitable for foreigners, no choice ! ants on the bathroom around your toiletry to have an air drier asked a few time then get one after 3 day very disappointing

Staff respects the customer and protects their privacy. One thing needs work is the hot water doesn't always work.
