I had stayed at this property a year before and there are constant improvements being made to the facilities and the area around it. The beds aren't the typical foam mattresses you can find elsewhere, they are nicely firm.

Very clean; nice pool; easy access to beach; outstanding, friendly and helpful staff. The evening chef rustled up a bespoke seafood option that catered to my wife’s dietary restrictions without advance notice. Would have liked kettle and tea/coffee in room. Live music on Sunday evening had more volume than talent, but thankfully didn’t go on too long. Overall we enjoyed our stay and are happy to recommend.

One thing to keep in mind about this area. It's in an area that regularly gets hit by Typhoons. So the surrounding area has very visible scars of those storms (especially the dire condition of the road). Additionally the village nearby is pretty typical of the area. The staff does a great job of keeping the guest areas clean and in working order. The landscaping is charming and maintained. The food at the restaurant is good and has enough variety to satisfy. I recommended this resort to travelers who want to go to areas that haven't yet become another generic resort town.

Your Travel Guide to Surigao City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Surigao City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila and other major Philippine cities, flying is the most efficient way to reach Surigao City. Surigao Airport (SUG) serves the area, with regular flights operated by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Flight durations typically range from 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options can often be found for around PHP 3,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip if booked early.

Alternatively, for those who prefer land and sea travel or are coming from closer regions in Mindanao or the Visayas, bus and ferry combinations are available. Buses from major Mindanao cities like Davao or Cagayan de Oro will take you to Surigao City, with travel times ranging from 8 to 12 hours, and fares typically between PHP 800 to PHP 1,500. From Cebu, you can take a ferry directly to Surigao City, a journey that usually lasts around 10 to 12 hours and costs approximately PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000.

Driving to Surigao City is also an option for those embarking on a road trip adventure. The journey involves navigating national highways and potentially ferry crossings depending on your starting point. While offering flexibility, this mode of travel requires significant time and planning, with potential toll fees and fuel costs to consider. It's a route best suited for travelers who enjoy long drives and wish to explore the landscapes along the way.

Best Time to Visit Surigao City

The climate in Surigao City is generally tropical, with warm temperatures year-round. The best time to visit Surigao City for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from March to October. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities, beach hopping, and exploring the numerous islands and natural attractions that Surigao del Norte is famous for.

The period from November to February can be wetter, as this is when the region experiences its monsoon season. While you might encounter occasional rain showers, they are often brief and don't necessarily disrupt travel plans. Traveling during the shoulder months, such as March-April or September-October, can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds, potentially leading to more affordable accommodation and flight options.

Food and Dining Near Surigao City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Surigao City, like much of the Philippines, boasts a rich culinary scene influenced by its coastal location and local produce. A must-try dish for any Filipino traveler is Kinilaw, the local version of ceviche. Fresh, raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Look for small eateries or carinderias near the coast for authentic preparations.

Another local specialty to seek out is Grilled Seafood. Given Surigao's proximity to abundant fishing grounds, you can expect incredibly fresh fish, prawns, and squid. Many local restaurants offer these grilled to perfection, often served with a simple soy sauce-based dipping sauce or a spicy vinegar. Enjoying a meal of freshly grilled seafood by the sea is a truly satisfying experience.

For those with a sweet tooth, try the local delicacies made from cassava, such as Cassava Cake or Bibingka. These traditional Filipino treats are often found in local markets and bakeries. Cassava provides a unique texture and subtle sweetness that is comforting and familiar to Filipino palates. They make for a delightful snack or dessert.

Don't forget to sample local fruits when in season. Surigao offers a variety of tropical fruits, and trying them fresh from local markets is a delightful experience. From mangoes to bananas and other regional specialties, these fruits are a healthy and delicious way to experience the local flavors. Exploring the local markets is also a great way to connect with the community and discover these culinary treasures.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Surigao City

Filipino travelers visiting Surigao City will find the local culture to be warm and hospitable, reflecting the general demeanor of Mindanaoans. Respect for elders and a polite demeanor are always appreciated. Learning a few basic phrases in the local dialect, if possible, can go a long way in fostering positive interactions. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Surigao City is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, as with any travel, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places or at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For emergencies, know the local police hotline number, which can usually be obtained from your hotel or the tourism office.

When it comes to essential apps, having a reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around the city and its surroundings. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter language barriers, though English is widely understood. For booking transportation or finding local recommendations, having the Traveloka app handy is also beneficial, allowing you to manage your bookings and discover activities easily.

Consider downloading a weather app to stay updated on any potential weather changes, especially if you plan on island hopping or visiting beaches. Staying informed about the weather can help you adjust your plans accordingly and ensure a safer and more enjoyable trip. These digital tools can significantly enhance your travel experience in Surigao City.

Overall it was a great stay, but on the last day the hotel staff insisted on taking some drinks we had purchased off us. That is THEFT plain and simple, and I HATE thieves. So petty and completely ruined for me what would have been such a great experience. Also... We stayed in 'deluxe' room, where the shower rail had been ripped off the wall... The door lock had VERY sharp edges, and both me and my wife cut ourselves on it... and there was always ants in the room... Could have done better!

We stayed in what they called “suite”. Yes, the room was big with a hot tub BUT, the tub do not have water connection therefore, you can’t use it. If you like loud music then you’re fine because there’s always music playing from around 8:00 to 22:00. Internet connection is only by the pool area so, if you want internet connection in your room, please do not stay in this hotel because you will be very frustrated. Do not stay in this hotel if you’re afraid of cockroaches and dust worms. I was so afraid to touch the furnitures/bed frames because it looks as if it was never cleaned/wipes for months. Our blankets is made of sewed together curtains, (by hands).

Annoyingly loud music playing during the days and evenings at the pool. So loud that it eminates though the rooms. The pool is very popular with the locals and is a big attraction, so it is usually full of people and kids not staying at the resort. Food and service is mediocre. Untrained staff means well. Staff is usually taking care of the owner rather than the customers. Isolated area, poor beach access, didn't clean the room daily. We had enough and left early.

I stayed in a week at this hotel, the pool was a lot reserved for schools so we could not use the pool. The price does not include the cleaning of the apartment, upon request we received one cleaning per week, thanks to the henchmen. Staff are delighted to help each time. Apartment moderate. terrace and chairs are not on the table. The restaurant's food is good though the fish is on the list it did not get. Price quality ratio good, breakfast also good .. I thought I would come again !!

We arrived late to find no one to help us for 10 mins, the pool was excellent as was the room but service was very poor and staff untrained. We ordered a meal on arrival it took 2 hrs this was not good. At breakfast there was rice and fish no menu for westerners over all I would not recommend fiesta until they improve customer service

I liked the atmosphere of the hotel, so I felt at home almost immediately. The hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating, so I really have nothing to complain about. On the last night there was a tropical storm and we were therefore the only guests. Of course, the hotel could not be blamed for this, but we received special treatment, so the way the hotel dealt with this challenge was good. Among other things, there were power cuts, but the hotel ensured that the generator supplied electricity to our room 24 hours a day. If I travel to the same area in Mindanao another time, I would probably book this hotel again :)

The place has seen better days. Playing load music morning to the late evening, even there isn't anyone there. Prepare to eat breakfast with music on volume 11. Rooms are with old furniture's and shabby bathroom. The cleaning of the room was done by using a lots of water to "glue" the dirt to the floor. When it dried it was still flying around. Had quite a lots of "wildlife" in the room in form of flies, cockroachs and lizzards. Difficult to communicate in English with the staff except from one. Never going back again.

not bad for an overnight stay, the pool is clean, the staff is fine but not that considerate, there's 4 of us with an add on, i requested for 4 sets of toiletries, she only gave me 2 sets, the food is good but not worth the price., other than that its fine.

The doors are so out of alignment that the mosquitoes came into our room all night long and terrorized me my lady and child. Room 103 was really bad. It is just very average nothing special and old

The staff here is absolutely wonderful. Always trying to help. Always trying to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. Our deluxe room came with an amazing breakfast. The pool was immaculate and not overcrowded. The beach is just across the street and the water was perfectly clear as well. At the end of our stay the staff helped us get to the bus terminal. Thank you...
