Your Travel Guide to Makati as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Makati from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from other major islands in the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most efficient method. Numerous airlines offer daily flights to Manila from cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. You can easily book flight tickets on Traveloka, with fares typically ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the origin city and booking time.

From NAIA, you can take a taxi or a ride-sharing service directly to Makati, which is about a 30-45 minute drive, costing around PHP 300-500. Alternatively, you can take the airport bus or LRT/MRT to reach a station closer to Makati and then transfer to a local taxi or jeepney. Planning your journey in advance can help secure better fares and ensure a smoother transition.

If you are traveling from Luzon's northern or southern regions, bus travel is a viable and economical option. Numerous bus companies operate daily trips to Metro Manila's various terminals. From these terminals, you can transfer to a bus route heading directly to Makati or utilize the LRT/MRT system. Bus fares generally range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500 for inter-provincial trips, offering a budget-friendly way to reach the capital.

Best Time to Visit Makati

The ideal time to visit Makati, and Metro Manila in general, is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it pleasant for outdoor activities and exploring the city. Temperatures usually range from 25°C to 32°C, offering comfortable weather for sightseeing and enjoying the urban landscape.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season due to the cooler temperatures and festive holiday atmosphere. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional heavy rainfall, often in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. While this might disrupt some outdoor plans, it also means fewer tourists and potentially lower prices for flights and hotels. If you don't mind carrying an umbrella and planning your activities around potential rain showers, this season can still offer a rewarding travel experience.

Food and Dining Near Makati — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. You can find excellent versions in many eateries around Makati, offering a comforting taste of home.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with tamarind broth. Whether it's pork, shrimp, or fish sinigang, the distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing and pairs perfectly with steamed rice. It’s a dish that truly embodies the Filipino palate’s love for complex flavors.

For a taste of something sweet and satisfying, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This popular treat is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down on a warm day and offers a burst of different textures and flavors in every spoonful.

Don't leave Makati without trying Lechon, a whole roasted pig known for its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While often a centerpiece for celebrations, many restaurants offer lechon portions for everyday enjoyment. The rich, savory flavor is something distinctive and a highlight of Filipino cuisine.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Makati

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting and a smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when speaking to older individuals or those in authority as a sign of respect. Understanding these basic cultural nuances will enhance your interactions and make your stay more pleasant.

When it comes to safety in Makati, like any major city, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. For emergencies, the local police hotline is 117. It's also a good idea to have the hotel's contact information readily available.

For seamless navigation and communication, several apps are highly recommended for your trip. Grab is essential for booking rides, food delivery, and even grocery shopping, making it incredibly convenient. Google Maps is invaluable for navigating the city's streets and public transport routes. GCash or Maya are useful for mobile payments, allowing for cashless transactions at many establishments.

I wasn't really expecting much especially it's relatively cheap for the location, but the broken AC is a huge problem. It's already set to 19 degrees but I feel like it's on no less than 26 degrees. Asked the staff to fix the problem but all they did was to get the AC remote (which by the way is not left in the room, but in the possession of the hotel staff!), and tried adjusting it to lower temp which did absolutely nothing! It appears they don't maintain the AC. Also there are some tiny cockroaches appearing out of nowhere and it's not something you would expect from a hotel of this class. Not looking forward to check in again in this hotel, nor recommending it to anyone else, sorry.

Whole night the AC didn't work well. Asked the front desk to get me another room but the attendant Joy wasn't helpful at all. We were sweating as Philippines weather always so hot and humid. Didn't get to sleep due to that.

No wifi in room but only lobby; 6 floors and no elevator which sucks after awhile; no AC control so whenever you leave room with key, need room service to turn it on once you return. Room is quite small and so is bathroom. For the price i have been in better rooms in Makati and QC. Won't stay again.

Mainly chose this hotel b/c of price and location. Very pleasant surprise! From the previous reviews I expected something of lesser experience. There were 3 of us with 2 double beds. The room was clean and tidy, but felt a little small b/c the two other travellers had a little too much luggage. The area felt safe even at night. Lots of shops and street vendors around, so if u needed some necessaries they were close by. The only negative is that they don't have a lift, but there was always someone there to help u with ur baggage.

Overall a very positive experience with excellent cable Internet available for 200 PHP per day, friendly staff, good location near major highways, shopping, and train station, and hot water as well as excellent air conditioning. Unfortunately, the hotels has many rules and just reading them makes one feel like a school child being reprimanded, however this is a minor inconvenience. Cleanliness could have been a bit better, and there were some bugs in the room, but I think this is unavoidable given the tropical climate. I will definitely stay here again on any future visits to Manila.

I stayed here in order to pick up my visa for India. The hotel is located in the Makati biz area and thus useful for anything related there. Rooms are small but comfortable. Bed was nice and comfortable, with decent pillows -- something usually missing in the Philippines. Nice shower with big "rain" shower head. internet truly only in lobby. Nice lobby restaurant with good breakfast. 2 shopping malls just around the corner. Good value for what u get.

Friendly staff, good roomservice. Good thing that you could rent a laptop to your room. A small minus to the staff for forgetting my wakeup call one morning.

Not much here...Basic place with very basic rooms and even more basic bathrooms. Breakfast was not good. Location is off the main drag so requires a taxi ride. It's in the "Washington" area of Makati.

Staff was great. Location was 15 minutes (via skyway) to airport. Mang Inasal just around the block. Very clean. Their wifi rules are annoying, you have to ask them for extra 60 minutes over and over. No elevator. Someone has to follow you to your room to turn your a/c on for you.

The hotel is OK, but we don't think we got a good deal for what we paid. The room was generally OK and clean, but the towels needed replacement.
