I had an amazing stay here! The staff was awesome and my accommodations were perfect. The only thing I didn’t like was the convenience of getting to and from El Nido. The hotel provided free transportation but only to the main square.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE this place!!! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and met every expectation. The staff made sure we had "to go" breakfast on a morning that we were leaving for a private boat tour, so kind. The dinning area is incredible; we could've just sat there for hours as the view was perfect! Right on the water; so beautiful. Food was great. We walked to and from town, for us no big deal only a short walk to everything. The grounds are as clean as they could be and so beautiful with the flowers, trees, rock walkway, and little sitting areas. Our "cabin" was perfect, air conditioning worked very well, clean, and just what we needed. We would recommend this place to everyone and if ever in the area again would stay here. Thanks for such an amazing stay!!!

Your Travel Guide to El Nido as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to El Nido from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most common way to reach El Nido from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Flights typically land at El Nido Airport (ENI). Airlines like AirSWIFT operate direct flights from Manila (MNL) to ENI. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance, especially outside of peak season, might yield prices ranging from PHP 4,000 to PHP 8,000 for a round trip. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Alternatively, you can fly into Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS), which often has more flight options and potentially lower fares from various Philippine cities. From Puerto Princesa, you can take a van or bus to El Nido town. This journey takes about 5 to 6 hours and van fares typically range from PHP 600 to PHP 800 per person. Buses are a more budget-friendly option, costing around PHP 400 to PHP 500.

For the adventurous and those on a tighter budget, overland travel is possible, though significantly longer. From Manila, you can take a bus to El Nido, which is a journey of about 24 to 30 hours. The cost for a direct bus can range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500. This option is best suited for travelers with ample time and a desire to see more of Palawan's landscapes. Remember to book flight tickets or bus seats in advance, particularly during holidays.

Best Time to Visit El Nido

The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the best time to visit El Nido. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calm seas, which are ideal for island-hopping tours and water activities. The peak tourist season falls between December and April, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours.

The shoulder months, such as November and May, can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer tourists. If you prefer a more tranquil experience and are looking for potentially better deals, these periods are worth considering. The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rain and rougher seas, which can sometimes lead to tour cancellations. However, this period also sees fewer visitors and lower prices.

Food and Dining Near El Nido — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is diverse and delicious, and El Nido offers plenty of opportunities to savor local flavors. When in El Nido, make sure to try fresh seafood, a staple in this coastal town. Grilled fish, squid, and prawns are commonly available and prepared simply to highlight their natural taste. Look for local eateries or "carinderias" for authentic and affordable options.

Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, is a must-try. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing appetizer. It’s a perfect dish to enjoy on a warm day after a swim. Many restaurants in El Nido serve their own unique take on this classic dish.

Adobo, the national dish of the Philippines, is also widely available. Whether it's chicken or pork adobo, the savory and slightly tangy flavor profile, achieved through soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a comforting taste of home for many Filipinos and a delightful introduction for foreign visitors.

Don't forget to try Halo-Halo for dessert. This popular Filipino treat is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth after a day of exploring under the Palawan sun.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for El Nido

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) goes a long way. It's also customary to remove your shoes before entering someone's home. El Nido is generally a safe place for tourists, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas.

Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, the local police can be reached at their station in Poblacion. It's also a good idea to have the contact number for your accommodation readily available. Staying informed about local conditions, especially regarding weather, is crucial for planning your activities.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigation. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used. If you plan on booking tours or activities on the go, having the Traveloka app installed will give you access to a wide range of options.

Familiarize yourself with basic Tagalog phrases, although English is widely spoken and understood in tourist areas. Understanding local customs and showing respect will enhance your interactions and overall experience in El Nido. Always be mindful of environmental regulations, such as proper waste disposal, to help preserve El Nido's natural beauty.

Room is good and comfortable. However frequent power outage. The AC is very weak and not cold during hot weather which is most of the time. The staff has very strict rule of not being able to bring in food so if you have left overs from restaurants you cant bring it back to the hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Golden Monkey. The staff was great. The breakfast in the morning was good and filling with strong brewed coffee served by a nice girl named Vanz. There was another server, but I missed her name. The wonderful July at the desk arranged our tour and rides to the airport. Pads the tuk tuk driver was great, also helped carry our luggage to the second floor room with a great view. It’s not a high end resort, but very comfortable with a short ride or 15 minute walk into town. Beach was good for shelling. Not great for swimming. Best beach for swimming is the Corong Corong side or El Nido town.

I booked room one, a family room, as it was the last room available at the time. I didn’t need the additional space but it was worth the additional cost for the view. There was seating and two sun beds on the deck overlooking the bay. Unrestricted water views. The hotel isn’t new, but gets five stars for the view and the excellent food.

The cottage I stayed in was basic with just a ceiling fan, which is fine for me, with a very tropical jungle feel to the rooms. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The grounds are kept immaculate. The breakfast included was simple, but delicious and the view from the restaurant/bar everyone morning is memorable. Really enjoyed staying here and not in town centre. Would return on my next visit to el nido.

Room is good and comfortable. However frequent power outage. The AC is very weak and not cold during hot weather which is most of the time. The staff has very strict rule of not being able to bring in food so if you have left overs from restaurants you cant bring it back to the hotel.

The old owners, Rosie and Kev fantastic there was no beach it was idyllic but the ocean is up to the boundary walls. Low tide is just okay.

Breakfast has very limited menu, the rice with garlic served uncooked, room is okay, not hot water of the shower, air-conditioning too loud, staff are okay but not accommodating, my room was garden view but i open the window tje view was garbages. The location of the hotel is hard to access especially if it rains, we were confined in the room cannot go downtown because no rides can get trough the wet and sandy road.

I had an amazing stay here! The staff was awesome and my accommodations were perfect. The only thing I didn’t like was the convenience of getting to and from El Nido. The hotel provided free transportation but only to the main square.

It was a run down hotel. It was dirty and black mould throughout the room. The bed was like sleeping on a rock. We actually moved to lime resort and it was fantastic

Cute little cottages just a short trek from town. Tricycle able to take you back and forth--do need service to call/whats app them to request it.

Our cottage, Unit 1 had a fabulous view of the ocean. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel staff was very friendly and always attentive to the needs of the hotel guests. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and families.

Views wonderful. Noise around area and within property disappointing. I was awoken quite a bit by staff, construction workers, loud guests. Staff gave misinformation and was not prepared for transport when said would.

We love the staff service and the view of the resort. My kids loved our stay at it that they don't want to leave the place already. We fell in love with the view at the resort location. We also love the breakfast options, its free breakfast, and its free tuktuk service from/to the resort. We will definitely come back here.
