Good food. Friendly staff and a 24/7 guard at the main entrance. If you looking for something very simple and cheap, a bed, bathroom and a shower. This is the place for you. The only bad part I can think of, It is located directly next to a very busy road. So you always ear those motorcycles and vehicles passing 24/7

Your Travel Guide to Manila as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, Manila is highly accessible. Numerous airlines operate daily flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from major cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. Flight durations typically range from 1 to 2 hours, with fares varying based on the season and how far in advance you book. Expect prices to range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip if you plan ahead and book flight tickets early.

Bus travel is another economical option for reaching Manila from Luzon's key provinces. Companies like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport offer comfortable bus services to terminals in Cubao or Pasay. A trip from Baguio, for instance, takes about 5 to 6 hours and costs approximately PHP 500 to PHP 700. These bus services are frequent, providing flexibility for travelers who prefer a more scenic route or are on a tighter budget.

If you are driving to Manila from nearby provinces, major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) provide direct access. Toll fees can add up, so factor this into your budget. For example, driving from Pampanga might involve around PHP 300-400 in toll fees each way, plus fuel costs. The journey offers a sense of freedom to stop and explore along the way.

Best Time to Visit Manila

The ideal time to visit Manila for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it more pleasant for outdoor activities and exploring the city's numerous attractions. Temperatures usually range from 24°C to 32°C, offering comfortable weather for sightseeing.

The period from December to February is often considered the peak tourist season due to the cooler temperatures and festive holiday atmosphere. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April. The rainy season, from May to October, brings frequent downpours, which can disrupt travel plans but also offers lush scenery and fewer tourists.

Food and Dining Near Manila — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Manila is complete without indulging in classic Filipino dishes. Adobo, a savory dish of meat braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a national favorite. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even at Governor Forbes Inn - Manila City Center’s restaurant. Its comforting flavors are a staple in Filipino households and a great introduction to the local cuisine.

Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, is another must-try, typically made with tamarind broth and your choice of meat or seafood, along with various vegetables. The tangy taste is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. Look for it in carinderias (local eateries) or more established Filipino restaurants scattered throughout Manila for an authentic taste.

For those with a sweet tooth, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This colorful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream is a delightful treat. It’s the perfect way to cool down after a day of exploring the city. Many local dessert shops and restaurants offer their unique take on this popular dessert.

Lechon, a whole roasted pig with crispy skin and succulent meat, is a celebratory dish often found at parties and special occasions. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (crispy fried pork belly) or lechon paksiw (pork stewed in liver sauce), which provide a delicious taste of this beloved dish. Exploring the local food scene is a key part of the Manila experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Manila

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders is deeply ingrained in the culture, so using "po" and "opo" when speaking to older individuals is a sign of good manners. Be mindful of dress codes when visiting churches or religious sites, opting for modest attire.

When it comes to safety in Manila, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets and public transport. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It's advisable to use reputable transportation services, such as those booked through apps or official taxi stands. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. Grab is indispensable for booking rides and food delivery, offering convenience and transparent pricing. Google Maps is crucial for navigation, helping you find your way around the city and estimate travel times. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by locals to stay connected. Having these apps on your phone will make navigating Manila much smoother.

Understanding local customs can greatly enrich your visit. Filipinos are generally very friendly and approachable, so feel free to ask for directions or recommendations. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service, usually around 10% in restaurants. Embracing the local culture and being open to new experiences will undoubtedly make your trip to Manila more rewarding.

As I had to attend an event at UST, this was a great location - only a 10-minute walk to the university. The room was large, with a double bed and 1 single bed, even though there was only me! It was comfortable, but it would have been great to be able to work from my room. I used the table in the cafe downstairs to work from. The staff were super lovely and the location/room were great. The only issue was not being able to sleep due to the noise from trucks and horns all night long, as it was on a main road. After three nights, I had to move to be able to get some sleep! I guess it would be okay if you're not a light sleeper like me.

Overall all stay was over-satisfactory. Approachable and help-convenient receptionists. (Hope they have name-tags for identification), clean rooms. Hopefully they can extend an in-room service for more convenient purposes for guests.

The room is nice. The Beds are comfy. The hot shower is functioning well. They have bidet. Air conditioning is working well. The room is clean. The staffs are accommodating. The only problem is that our room is facing lacson ave. so it's a bit noisy specially in the morning.

The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Only problem was the noise since it was by the highway. Other than that, it was okay.

Thumbs up to the service of this hotel. The staffs are very kind and friendly. The location is perfect because it's just 1 trike ride to fastfood chains/convenient stores and just a few meters from bus stations.

Since I am a traveller, I stayed in different hotels, aparttelle, condominiums and inns. For 1,600+ good for 4pax is not a good deal. Their wifi is weak and also they don't have any cable channels.

I had the most pleasant stay here. This hotel went the extra miles to cater my family's needs. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Customer service was not very good especially the front desk people and answering the front desk phone. They will ask you to deposit $20.00 dollars for security bond and key purpose... Is this how this hotel runs?

Overall all stay was over-satisfactory. Approachable and help-convenient receptionists. (Hope they have name-tags for identification), clean rooms. Hopefully they can extend an in-room service for more convenient purposes for guests.
