Decent location, 15-20min walk to Alona Beach, set back from main road so it's fairly quiet at night. Rooms are clean and aircon works well. Hotel amenities are well maintained and food prices are reasonable.

Your Travel Guide to Panglao, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Panglao, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For most travelers coming from Manila and other major Philippine cities, the most convenient way to reach Panglao, Panglao Island is by air. Bohol Panglao International Airport (TAG) is the primary gateway. Several airlines operate flights from Manila (MNL) to TAG, with travel times typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly, but booking your flight in advance can often secure rates ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and airline.

While flying is the quickest option, budget-conscious travelers might consider a combination of ferry and land travel, though this is significantly more time-consuming. Ferries operate from various ports to Tagbilaran City, Bohol's capital, which is a short drive from Panglao. From Tagbilaran, you can take a tricycle or a van to reach Panglao Island. This route is best suited for those with ample time and a desire to see more of the Philippines' maritime landscape.

For those driving from nearby Visayas regions, you can take a ferry to Bohol and then drive to Panglao. The island is connected by bridges, making road access straightforward once you are on Bohol. Planning your route and checking ferry schedules in advance is crucial for this mode of transport. Regardless of your starting point, remember to book your flight or other transport well in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

Best Time to Visit Panglao, Panglao Island

Panglao, Panglao Island enjoys a tropical climate year-round, making it a popular destination for Filipinos seeking sun and sea. The dry season, generally from December to May, is considered the peak tourist period. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower chances of rain, which is ideal for beach activities, island hopping, and exploring the many natural attractions Bohol has to offer.

The wet season runs from June to November, and while you might encounter occasional rain showers, they are often brief and followed by sunshine. This period can be a good time to visit if you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. The rain can also bring out the lush greenery of the island, offering a different kind of beauty.

For the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or May. These periods often offer pleasant weather conditions without the peak season influx of tourists. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Panglao's charm and beauty are present throughout the year, offering a wonderful escape for any Filipino traveler.

Food and Dining Near Panglao, Panglao Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Boholano cuisine offers a delightful array of flavors that reflect its coastal location and agricultural richness. A must-try dish is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. You'll find excellent versions of this refreshing appetizer in many local eateries and restaurants around Panglao, often served with a side of rice.

Another local specialty is Peanut Kisses, a sweet, crunchy biscuit shaped like the Chocolate Hills, a famous Bohol landmark. Seafood is, of course, abundant and fresh. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are staples, often simply prepared to highlight their natural flavors. Many restaurants along Alona Beach offer a wide selection of freshly caught seafood, allowing you to pick your preferred catch and have it cooked to your liking. Don't forget to try the local fruits, especially mangoes and bananas, which are exceptionally sweet and flavorful here.

For a taste of something more substantial, try the Adobo, a Filipino classic that has regional variations. In Bohol, you might find it prepared with local spices and ingredients, offering a unique twist. Many local carinderias (small eateries) and restaurants serve authentic Filipino dishes, providing a true taste of the Philippines.

The room is big, but the aircon is old & noisy. We stayed at 2nd floor and the foundation is like built with wood or angle bars because with every heavy step you make the floor makes noise and jolts. The resort is far from the beach though they have scheduled shuttle service to & from alona beach.

Liked the rural location and especially the private outside table at every room. Had our suppers there. Breakfast was coffee tea 3-4 slices of toast or rice two eggs and hot dog sausage or spam. They kindly opened a coconut for us they provided drinking water. Had some problem with ants but they came and sprayed and cleared it up. Enjoyed our stay there

My sister and I stayed at Greenfields for 5 days. Staff are very accommodating on our requests and are very courteous. It's a bit of a walk from Alona beach but they provide a shuttle to and from every 2 hours. The place is nice if you prefer a more peaceful and chill stay as compared to the busy and noisy Alona beach stretch. We also love that it has a pool. They do serve breakfast but the taste is just okay. Also, they only have a few selections of food so we opt to eat out since it's near to Giuseppe and other restaurants. Overall, our stay was awesome and comfortable but they can improve on their WiFi as it was intermittent all throughout our stay and wished that their shuttle service is at least every hour to accommodate the number of their guests well.

Staff are friendly and very helpful. Facility is satisfactory except for the bathroom sink. It's hard to wash your face, cause it's very small and the placement is very awkward. A round trip shuttle service from hotel to Alona Beach drop off point is a big plus! On going construction of additional rooms during our stay. Stayed on the first floor, sound of foot steps and other noises can be heard from second floor. I think it got to do with a rowdy occupants at that time. It only occurred one time, I'll come back if I end up going back to Panglao.

Nice and clean little hotel, situated 2 mn from Giuseppe pizzeria. The rooms are good and fresh with a separate bathroom, a balcony and a flatscreen TV. The bathroom is a bit simple but fine and clean. There is AC in the room. Breakfast is simple but good and it is pleasant to refresh in the pool. The free shuttle to Alona beach is really helpful (otherwise walking takes about 10-15 mn). The hotel is situated 1 km away from Alona Beach but the environment is really calm and peaceful, in the countryside (no sea view). The staff is nice, honest and dedicated. The beach is nice compared to other places in the Philippines - in particular no gogo girls bars, no people harassing you for "massage" and chasing foreigners, except real "healthy" massage on the beach if you like it, no rubbish on the beach. Some people will try to sell you tour packages but stop after they recognize you. Really this is soooo good to be left in peace when you stroll on the beach !

The inn was clean with a new pool. Room was ok but bathroom needs improvement- shower was in a bathtub without shower curtains and not only it flooded as you take a bath, the whole bathroom floor was wet when you get out. Water has funny smell. Place was far in and away from Alona beach but they have an efficient shuttle- good job, Bert! Room has ants crawling on the walls. Breakfast was just eggs, sausage or ham with rice or bread. We are fine with it. Staff were friendly and accommodating so a plus. Can't complaint for the price paid. Overall was ok, at least beds and sheets are clean....

The room is big, but the aircon is old & noisy. We stayed at 2nd floor and the foundation is like built with wood or angle bars because with every heavy step you make the floor makes noise and jolts. The resort is far from the beach though they have scheduled shuttle service to & from alona beach.

Really friendly staff, away from Alona Beach but walkable or Shuttle bus. Very good price. Only negative was they did not have ice. And they should have Tanduay Rum. Green place to stay though. I would definitely recommend and come back.

Overall is okay. Shower water is not strong enough. Staffs is very helpful. Not too far from Alona beach. Walking distance about 15-20mins. and provide free schedule shuttle make it easier access to Alona beach. Surrounding has a lot restaurants where you can get nice & cheap foods. Definitely recommend it.

Simple hotel with great service and clean rooms. They attend to our every need and were very accommodating. We arrived earlier than check in and they allowed us access to our room with no extra charge. The staff also had good suggestions for local tours and managed all logistics for us.

Decent location, 15-20min walk to Alona Beach, set back from main road so it's fairly quiet at night. Rooms are clean and aircon works well. Hotel amenities are well maintained and food prices are reasonable.

The staff at this hotel is great! The rooms are spacious and the outdoor eating area lovely. Their shuttle to and from Alona beach made getting to the heart of the action easy and convenient. I felt very safe as a single traveler. I will be staying here again next time I'm in Panglao!
