Your Travel Guide to Ozamiz City as a Filipino Traveler

For travelers coming from Manila and other major hubs like Cebu or Davao, flying is the most efficient way to reach Ozamiz City. Labo Airport (OZC) serves the city, with regular flights operated by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Flight durations typically range from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the origin city. Fares can vary significantly based on booking time and season, but booking your flight in advance can often secure more economical prices, potentially ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip.

While direct bus services to Ozamiz City from distant locations like Manila might be less common or extremely long, inter-island ferry services are a viable option for those who enjoy sea travel. Major shipping lines operate routes connecting various ports in Mindanao, including Ozamiz, to Visayas and Luzon. These journeys can take considerably longer, often spanning over 24 hours, but offer a different travel experience and can be more budget-friendly for those with ample time. It’s advisable to check ferry schedules and book tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons.

For travelers preferring to drive, Ozamiz City is accessible via the Pan-Philippine Highway and other national roads. The journey from Manila would involve a significant road trip, likely combined with ferry crossings. This option is best suited for those who enjoy long drives and wish to explore the country at their own pace. Be prepared for extensive travel times, potentially several days, and factor in costs for fuel, accommodation along the way, and ferry fees. Planning your route meticulously is crucial for such an undertaking.

Best Time to Visit Ozamiz City

Ozamiz City experiences a tropical climate, characterized by warm temperatures and humidity throughout the year. The dry season generally runs from December to May, offering sunnier days and less rainfall, making it an ideal period for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. During these months, you can expect average temperatures to hover around 30-32 degrees Celsius, with occasional cooler evenings.

The wet season typically spans from June to November, bringing with it more frequent rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy but often occurs in short bursts. While this period might see fewer sunny days, it also means fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, offering a different kind of appeal for budget-conscious travelers. The lush greenery during this time also adds to the natural beauty of Misamis Occidental. Regardless of the season, Ozamiz City offers a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

Food and Dining Near Ozamiz City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Mindanao is complete without savoring Kinilaw, a local take on ceviche. Fresh raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, calamansi juice, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. The tangy, spicy, and refreshing flavors are a perfect reflection of Filipino palate. You can find excellent Kinilaw in local eateries and seafood restaurants around Ozamiz City, often served as a starter or a light meal.

For those with a sweet tooth, try the local delicacies made from sticky rice, such as Puto Bumbong or Suman. These are often flavored with coconut and served with grated coconut or muscovado sugar. While not exclusive to Ozamiz, regional variations offer unique tastes. Look for these treats in local markets or bakeries for an authentic taste of Filipino merienda.

Don't forget to sample the fresh seafood available in coastal areas. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are staples in many local dining spots. My experience in JV hotel is very disappointing & I’m not comfortable. Towels are old & dirty looking . There’s a mosquitoes flying & bugs in the bed . Bathroom is very dirty . Floor is dirty look like is not been cleaned. Furniture is dusty . I checked out early & look for another hotel . Hope the management will check the workers & make improvements to make an effort to give a good service & cleanliness to all the rooms especially the bathroom. Everything in the room is not good . You need to give time to check your workers & give them a good training how to clean rooms .

Spacious rooms for an affordable price. There is a 24" wall mounted LED TV with cable channels. The Rooms are well ventilated, with a glass window with blinds. There is also free access to wifi for about 2 to 5 mbps speed which is just enough to access your favorite social media sites. Free soap and tissue but this branch does not have free bottled water, they sell it. The Restroom is ok with regular showers. During our stay, the flush valve is not functioning so we need to use the pail to flush. Water pressure is ok. The Walls and floor are clean. Lights in the room are just enough. Ceiling height is standard. Staff in this branch are cheerful and accommodating. Overall it is a budget friendly hotel and recommended for most travellers

Aircon fine, no hot shower, wifi would come and go but usually worked, no breakfast but there is a ChowKing across the street. Right by a big mall. Staff friendly. No bugs. Really can't beat it for the price (12USD for a double). Prices are slightly less in person than online.

This hotel was not my first choice but it was the only one with a room available on the dates of my travel. The staff is friendly and very helpful and there is free wifi in the lobby where there are a number of snacks. This is a good place to rest and sleep but I missed having a frig and microwave in the room as well as not having room service and wifi in the room.

Cons: The room are old and not to nice. The standard for westerner are to low. - No hot water - No decorations at all in the room. (Only bed, stand for TV and an old thick TV) - No power outlet near the bed. (Only next to the TV) - Very old and well used room. Pro: There are good things to, not all are bad. - AC is working fine - Toilet paper exist in the room - No bugs (in my room that I could see) - Near the port, walking distance. (Even for fat foreigner like me) Reception: - Looks clean and nice - 24h open, with guard at the door at all times If I stay there again its only to save money. If you want a nice place there exist other hotels in town that are having more of a western standard. But they cost more money.

This is a very simple hotel in ozamiz. It's very basic room that meets all your needs. Has private toilets/shower and aircon.

Royal Garden is always good the staff and being able to get in and out quickly. The restaurants are overpriced, you can find better. Its great for business and family, the wifi is the best in any motel in OZ. The staff is very helpful like any Filipino employee for any business.

Finally hot water and a bathtub! Superb service with a smile. I stayed in a suite which is really nice. I have no complaints. My friends back home say I look relaxed and very happy.

It's like you're staying in a community hospital. I will never recommend this hotel.
