Small and expensive
Went there with the family last June to enjoy the last days of our summer vacation. The hotel was okay,, a bit pricey but rooms were a little small I guess not worth the price,, they were accommodating too. The pool was also a bit small.

Below Average Experience
We arrived on time for the check in but they couldn't give us our room because the previous occupant was still in the room which wasn't fair to us at all. They temporarily made us stay in a smaller room (than what we booked for) which wasn't comfortable especially when we couldn't unpack and we couldn't relax just yet or do anything but wait for the previous occupants to leave. I pointed out that I already paid for the room as it was already past our check in time and it was not our problem if they couldn't impose their check out time to the other guests. As with most of our experience in the Philippines, being nice will not get you anywhere, being nice will only tell them that being unfair is okay with you so you have to resort to being angry. Being angry is not a good way to start a holiday but it is the only way that makes people literally remove their butts from the chair and actually do something about the situation. It was unfortunate that we booked via Agoda so the stay was already charged to our credit card and we could no longer cancel. They have a small pool, the buffet meals was okay but lacking selection. Very limited snacks that can be ordered. Bring your own snacks if you want to stay here. They don't have their own parking so you have to park by the shoulder of the road fronting the resort. No wifi in the rooms. We booked a boat to take us to an island at the hotel. The arrangement was for the boat to wait for us since we paid for the entire day but the boat left us to service someone else which made my husband mad because we didn't want to stay long and we paid them for the entire day. Anyway, that someone else eventually cancelled so the boat came back for us on time. I gave a poor rating instead of terrible because the hotel tried to make amends by giving us free mango shake from fresh mangoes from their tree(s). They also packed hot water and tea for our island trip. I wouldn't book this resort again. There are other better less pricier resorts in the same area.

Quality diving, superb food, decent room
Pre trip: Liaised with Cienna for a 7D6N trip without specifying which resort; They have 2 resorts, the new one at Secret Bay (remember to specify if you're particular!). I got the original resort but no regrets whatsoever, more on that later. Do note you'll have to make a 50% deposit. I made mine through the bank and absorbed the extra charges. Can't be helped as they don't have PayPal or the likes. Trip: Picked up at the airport and arrived at the resort without drama. The rooms are in alphabetical order and mine was "I". It's a corner room facing the pool with a great view of the sunset! But it's right next to the kitchen, so, if you're fussy... Avoid it. We didn't mind the fragrance of whatever chef created! ;) Diving: Alex/Aleks, a local all 57 years young (you'll never be able to tell) was my DM for the entire trip. He's soft spoken and fully capable of humor. He's very attentive and good at spotting the critters. He's not the usual "go-all-out" genre of DM who will destroy the reefs just to allow you to take a good picture. I really liked that he's responsible and we dived well together. Water temperature hovered around 25 to 27 degree Celsius. The area was affected by a typhoon last December and to a certain extent affected the diving as well. Alex mentioned it's harder to find the critters that used to be around. Food: SPECTACULAR. And they serve spectacular in good portions. I've had enough overly salty food in Philippines so I braced myself for 7D6N of it but... NOTHING HAPPENED. I can't describe everything that I ate lest I break down in tears while typing this. It was so good that I'm going to choose whichever Halo that chef is at. Staff: Jomer is only a part timer at the resort but he's so committed to the job and took care of us from start to end. We liked him a lot! Ask him to show you around the area after his shift ends at 6pm! There's roadside stall selling grilled food and an amazing hand-built restaurant "OMG" nearby. Things to note: - Payment: they don't have credit card terminal so everything is in cash. Something that bothered me a lot because I don't enjoy bringing excessive amount of cash. Also, they're particular about new vs. old USD notes. Get new notes if possible. Tl;dr: Halo has everything you need for a dive vacation. We truly enjoyed every moment we were there. We'll definitely be back!

Absolute Disgrace/Disregard to Marine Life
First of all, there are 2 Halo resorts. I stayed in the new one in Secret Bay. Food and Room were fine. Hotel Staff was nice and attentive to you. However, let's talk about what I was for: DIVING. The DMs have a major fundamental diving issue. They broke coral with macro lives on every dive the whole time (5 days) I was there. On one occasion, I found some critter under a feather star. The DM came over and yanked out the whole plant and brought to another group of divers so they could take pictures. Not to mention, I have not even taken a picture yet. Worse yet, I later saw the DM broke off the tip of the feather star where the shrimp had no where to go so again, some photos can be taken. At the end, the shrimp disappeared. Eaten by a fish...maybe?! Also, harassing marine lives like octopus and seahorses just to "pose" them seems ok with the DM. What this "diving resort" does not understand is divers come to Anilao to see marine life. This kind of reckless behaviors destroy everything and at the end, nobody comes because nothing is in the water. At times, I doubt that they are actual DMs. Overall, shockingly disappointing underwater experience. If you like to contribute the destruction of Anilao, this is the resort to be in. Eww....

I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL EVEN TO PEOPLE I DO NOT LIKE! For such highly priced rooms, the MANAGEMENT OF THIS HOTEL IS CHEAP! We were assigned to a room with a leaking AC - leaking in the inside which caused a bit of a flood in the room. They cleaned it up, put buckets and towels on the floor to catch the drops, and told us that they're going to have it fixed and was asked to use the fan while waiting. We requested to be transferred to a different room but they didn't allow it. We waited the whole day for the maintenance staff but surprise, surprise - no one came hence it was not fixed at all! We had to turn the AC on just before dinner because it was really hot inside the room. The drops - 4 leaks to be exact - caused annoying sounds that didn't put us to sleep easily. We texted the daughter of the owner Sienna a bit past 9PM about this and asked her to sort this out because this can't be the situation for the next 2 nights of our stay. When we finally were able to sleep through the annoying drop sound probably just after 11PM, the staff, the reception and the security guard knocked on our door just before 12 midnight to transfer us to a DOWNGRADED ROOM! What kind of hotel will wake you up in the middle of the night to downgrade your room??? The downgrade we wouldn't mind if it was done by the time we requested it but to wake us up in the middle of the night?? That's absurd! We were supposed to stay here for 4D/3N, paid 18k for the whole stay but we left the following morning and didn't get a refund at all! Then the actual owner, whom I didn't know was actually just behind me while I was complaining to the reception and informing her of our check out, didn't bother to apologize when she knew we were the guests that were disturbed in the middle of the night! She didn't want to deal with it at all until the reception lady called her and told her we wanted to check out and get a refund. This owner has no clue running a hotel! She just left while in the middle of sorting out the situation. If you're willing to pay extra price for a hotel, go somewhere else. This place is not worth it. NOT AT ALL!
