I stay for 14 days in Heroes Hotel during the Sea Games 2019. The room is very comfortable. I ordered a deluxe room which has a balcony. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A man in the second floor that serves you breakfast is very cheerful and will be happy to answer all of your questions regarding the city. The building is quite new so it's clean and comfy. I definitely put Heroes in my top list when I have the chance to visit Manila in the future.

Your Travel Guide to Manila as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For many Filipino travelers, flying into Manila is the most common way to reach the capital. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate numerous flights daily from key cities across the archipelago, including Cebu, Davao, and Palawan. Fares can vary significantly, but you can often find competitive prices, especially if you book in advance or during promotional periods. Expect flight times to range from approximately 1 to 2 hours, depending on your origin city. It's always a good idea to book flight tickets early for the best rates.

If you're traveling from nearby provinces or regions, taking a bus is a more economical option. Numerous bus terminals are located throughout Metro Manila, serving routes from Luzon, Visayas, and even Mindanao (via ferry connections). Bus fares are considerably lower than flights, typically ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 2,000 for longer journeys. Travel times can be extensive, from several hours to over a day for inter-island routes.

For those driving from provinces in Luzon, the North and South Luzon Expressways (NLEX and SLEX) provide direct access to Metro Manila. These are toll roads, so factor in toll fees which can range from PHP 100 to PHP 500 or more, depending on the distance traveled. Navigating within Manila itself can be challenging due to traffic, so consider using navigation apps and allowing ample travel time.

Best Time to Visit Manila

Manila experiences a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, typically from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity and less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. Temperatures usually range from 25°C to 35°C.

The wet season runs from May to October and is characterized by higher humidity and frequent rain showers, which can sometimes be heavy. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower hotel prices, it's important to be prepared for potential disruptions to outdoor plans. Traveling during the shoulder months of November or February can offer a good balance, with pleasant weather and fewer crowds than the peak holiday season.

Food and Dining Near Manila — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Manila is complete without indulging in its rich culinary landscape. Adobo, the unofficial national dish, is a must-try. This savory and tangy stew of meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. You can find excellent versions at local eateries and even at Heroes Hotel's own dining establishments.

Another iconic dish is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat or seafood, along with various vegetables. Its distinct sourness is incredibly comforting and refreshing. For a taste of something sweet and rich, try Halo-Halo, a popular dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It's the perfect antidote to Manila's heat.

For a more substantial meal, consider trying Kare-Kare, a rich stew made with oxtail, tripe, and vegetables in a thick, savory peanut sauce, usually served with bagoong (shrimp paste). The complex flavors are a delight. You can find authentic Kare-Kare in many Filipino restaurants around Manila. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the travel experience, and Manila offers an abundance of choices.

When dining near Heroes Hotel, explore the local carinderias for authentic and affordable Filipino meals. For a more upscale experience, consider restaurants in nearby malls like Robinsons Place Manila, which offer a wide variety of cuisines. Don't shy away from street food stalls, but always ensure they look clean and popular with locals.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Manila

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. A simple "po" and "opo" (polite particles used when addressing elders or superiors) can go a long way in showing respect. It's also common to be invited into homes, and accepting such invitations is a sign of goodwill. Be mindful of personal space in crowded areas and always keep your belongings secure.

When it comes to safety, it's advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially in busy public places and markets. Avoid displaying expensive jewelry or large amounts of cash. For transportation, use reputable taxi services or ride-sharing apps. In case of emergencies, know the local emergency numbers. The general emergency number in the Philippines is 911.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. Google Maps is indispensable for navigation. Grab is the go-to app for ride-hailing and food delivery. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used. Having these apps on your phone will make getting around and staying connected much easier during your stay in Manila.

The room is old but it is spacious enough. CR is nice and spacious. I like that they installed a hair blower. They also took the initiative to clean the room without us asking. Though there are some things they can improve:) like having a small dining table in the room. And installing soundproof, because it's sometimes noisy in the hallway because of kids and other tenants. The room is clean but there's one night where we saw 2 big cockroaches in our room. Maybe it's because we're near their stock room/pantry? They could make use of an insect spray during room service. Nevertheless, our overall stay was satisfactory. 😊. I think the biggest factor was their friendly staff. I forgot the name of the male staff, but he entertained us promptly when we arrived very early in the morning. Also, kudos to Ms. LJ and Ms. Ria. They were very helpful. They attended to our requests -printing important documents. They said it's part of the hotel service. All staff is kind and accomodating. 😊💯.

The hotel is quite new. We liked how innovative they are with the locker. Also, bed is great. Our room is similar to a usual backpacking hostel where you have your own light and socket per bed. Highly recommended if you want to hang out with friends. There’s also a great bar at the roofdeck, Bar With No Name.

Clean room with pleasant shower. Free coffee and tea all the time. Starting at 12 noon there is a free popkorn in the lobby. On the 2nd floor there is an honesty cafeteria that provides some small food and drinks. Sevel right next to the lobby door, location is easy to reach.

My boyfriend and I booked a 2 night stay for the holy week at heroes hotel. We booked this cause we got a discount at app and it was a good deal! Hotel heroes hotel is a 6 story boutique hotel located along osmena. The hotel is not accessible via public transportation which I think is the only con of this place. You have to ride grab or a tricycle to get to a more convenient location for public transport. It is not commutable. The place is pretty affordable. You can stay on their cheapest room for around php1500+. The location is near a lot of famous spots in manila which I think is the reason why there are a lot of foreigners who were booked here. The hotel takes its aesthetic inspiration from heroes of different forms from real life people to comic heroes. I love the collectibles scattered in the whole area plastered in the different parts of the hotel. Room the room we got is their cheapest deluxe room which is good for 2 and the bed we chose was the queen sized one. I love the bed!!! It was so cozy and the linens were the same as high end hotels. The bedsheet / blanket is duvet so it felt so premium and added more comfort to us. The bed size is pretty big already for the two of us. There’s a huge tv perfectly situated in front of the bed which is ideal for netflix and chill! They have a fast wifi too. We brought a laptop and a cable so we can stream online and view it on the tv screen! The bathroom was clean and has a bidet! The shower has a built in heater and towel & toiletries are already provided. There is no refrigerator inside the room. Food and eating is not allowed inside the room which is the only sad part here. I wanted to pig out while watching but I was not able to because of the restrictions. Facilities the hotel has a cafe on the 2nd floor which they call honesty cafe. They serve free brewed coffee all day! If you plan on buying snacks and late night munchies you may only eat it here. Water is also provided here so its better if you bring your own bottle for refills. They have a restaurant and bar on the rooftop. I wasn’t able to dine here cause it was closed during the holy week. But I will definitely be back for a drink at bar with no name cause for the free jacuzzi with a view of the makati skyline! Imagine sipping your cocktail while watching the sunset? Overall, it was a pleasant stay! I must say this is the most worthy staycation i’ve ever had in a while. The staff were all accommodating and friendly. I also particularly loved the bedroom which is a bang for the buck! Will definitely be back in the future

This hotel has a very poor wifi connection and the room they had for us doesn't have a phone to contact the front desk. The TV remote doesn't work and the room doesn't look like a heroic type of hotel. And lastly, the front desk isn't nice.

I love this hotel cheap price and excellent service, friendly staff very accommodating, breakfast is ok basic selection but its ok worth the price. I love the interior designs my children loves it especially the memorabilia and everything, the bedsheets are nice same quality of a 5 star hotel, except the room has a bit small maybe because its a new built hotel

I think they are one of most comfortable hotel in Manila. We loved the room, the helpfulness of the staff, the quotable quotes on the wall. But coming from and going to the hotel is a bit of complicated because it’s only accessible by metered taxi, Grab or walking and you eventually pay more.

All I can say is that this is a hotel with a heart. 💗. From the facade, reception, receiving area, rooms, roof deck, everything is clean, organized and well maintained. So family-friendly. Everyone is friendly. Best 3-star hotel we've been so far. Can't wait to go back.
