Your Travel Guide to Tagum City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagum City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

From Davao City, Tagum City is accessible via land transportation. Buses are a common and affordable option, with fares usually ranging from PHP 150 to PHP 300. The bus journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, traversing well-maintained highways. You can easily book flight tickets to Davao and then arrange for bus travel to Tagum.

For those who prefer driving, Tagum City is accessible via the Pan-Philippine Highway. The drive from Davao City is straightforward, with clear signage. While toll fees are minimal, the travel time and fuel costs should be factored into your budget. This option offers flexibility for those who enjoy road trips and want to explore at their own pace.

Best Time to Visit Tagum City

Tagum City experiences a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round. The best time to visit is generally during the dry season, which runs from December to May. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions.

The period from June to November is considered the wet season, with a higher chance of rain. While occasional showers are common, they usually don't last all day and can offer a refreshing break from the heat. Traveling during the shoulder months, like November or May, can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

For travelers looking to experience local festivals, the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City (August) and the Musikahan sa Tagum (March) are significant events. Planning your visit around these times can add a cultural dimension to your trip, though expect higher accommodation rates and more visitors.

Food and Dining Near Tagum City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagum City and the wider Davao region offer a culinary landscape rich with local flavors. A must-try is the Kinilaw, a Filipino version of ceviche, typically made with fresh raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer that highlights the freshness of local seafood.

Another local delicacy is the Durian, famously known as the "King of Fruits" in Mindanao. While its strong aroma is polarizing, its creamy texture and unique sweet-tart flavor are an acquired taste that many find rewarding. You can find durian in local markets, especially during its peak season.

For a hearty meal, try the La Paz Batchoy, a noodle soup originating from Iloilo but popular across the Philippines. It features a rich pork and shrimp broth, noodles, pork cracklings, and vegetables. It’s a comforting and flavorful dish perfect for any meal.

Don't forget to sample local Mindanaoan dishes that might incorporate indigenous ingredients or cooking methods. Exploring local eateries and carinderias will give you an authentic taste of the region's diverse culinary heritage.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagum City

Filipino culture in Tagum City is generally warm and hospitable. It's customary to be respectful of elders and local customs. When visiting religious sites, dress modestly. Learning a few basic phrases in Tagalog or Bisaya can also be appreciated by locals.

Safety in Tagum City is comparable to other urban centers in the Philippines. It's advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, local police hotlines are available, and it's wise to have these numbers handy.

The property itself was beautiful. However the quality of the rooms and amenities left much to br desired. We rented a room for a week to unwind after the long trip and left after 3 days because the bed was so uncomfortable we could barely walk after sleeping on it. Add the fact that everything is overpriced and this is not a resort I would recommend.

This property does not offer any of the adventures that are on its website. The beach is full of trash and the condition of the rooms us very poor. I would not recommend or stay here again. The only thing that helped them get 2 stars was the pool. However, since they weren't running the filtration system. There was swarms of mosquitoes. This was probably a nice place in the past but the owner/ manager has not kept it up. Staff was pleasant.

this is the second time we have relaxed there, nice and quiet, a perfect place to just chill out, you can do as much or little as you like, the restaurant food is good and a decent price and the service is good, a little Philippines style service where the food does not come out all at once. but it is hot and tasty, the restaurant/bar overlooks the pool and look past that you got a lovely view of the sea and ocean

Property was nice, pool was nice, food was extremely overpriced for the portion given.

Beach, pool and scenery were great. On line they say they have tennis courts, pool tables, ticket and excursions, 2 restaurants....all non existant, and half the menu items were unavailable, yet no offer of partial refund for so much missing!

This was our second stay here in Hijo. The road is in concrete now, that's good ! The food at the restaurant was better than the first time but the coffee in the morning was not that hot. We love the Premium casita. So sad the beach is so dirty of plastic.

The room and facility is beautiful. The food was good. But the last two days could tell was overbooked with parties as it took 45 mins or longer for food.

this is the second time we have relaxed there, nice and quiet, a perfect place to just chill out, you can do as much or little as you like, the restaurant food is good and a decent price and the service is good, a little Philippines style service where the food does not come out all at once. but it is hot and tasty, the restaurant/bar overlooks the pool and look past that you got a lovely view of the sea and ocean

Me and My Family was really Impressed with the Rooms because it is so nice, spacious, and clean..though the beach isn't so very enticing but they've got it covered by their pool which helped a lot..breakfast by pool is awesome..food is also good..will definitely coming back..

Very good experience, four star resort really. Pleasant and polite staff, affordable prices, great good. Wish there was more food choices, but there was more than enough to chose from. We had a great time. I would recommend it and will come back again.

Like in most cases the staff is great, The hotel is about 2 hours from Davos airport. The room was very clean and had great internet. I went during off season so not many people around. A few water sports... I recommend this hotel if you need some alone time recharge the batteries

Room is big and comfortable. In house tour and activities are interesting and worth it. Going out of the resort without your own car will be a problem. Overall, it is a nice resort.
