1.28.2026, Our stay at the Hotel Grande in the City of Baguio, Philippines was exceptional. The outside appearance of Hotel Grande has a modern look and located near Camp John Hay. Hotel Grande rooms are modern and very clean. Hotel Grande guest rooms also come with a modern-day HVAC system mounted on the wall. The rooms are very quiet inside compared to other hotels. The hotel staff are very helpful and will meet your expectations. The hotel includes free buffet breakfast which was located on the top eighth floor looking out over Baguio. This restaurant on the eighth floor serves both breakfast and dinner. The dinner buffet is good if you want to eat in and pay out of pocket. You can also invite guest to eat with you at any of these restaurants. On the second floor of the Hotel Grande is a Japanese Restaurant that serves great Japanese food. The first-floor restaurant has pastries, coffee and restaurant. Hotel Grande also has a nice Asian style lunch buffet. On the fifth floor the hotel has a patio bar outside which is open during the afternoon. Transportation isn’t a problem because local taxi’s come by the hotel every 10 minutes and will take you anywhere in the City of Baguio for a reasonable price. Hotel Grande also offers conference rooms for business meetings. We stayed twice at the Hotel Grande in January 2026. We love this hotel and look forward to returning during our next visit to Baguio.

We loved our stay at Hotel Grande. It has a dedicated parking garage for guests (two-level basement) as well as an elevator for ease of transporting luggages. Breakfast buffet is tasty and has a very good mix of Filipino (danggit, ube-flavored ensaymada, etc) and International food. The staff do seem to be more aloof than most of the staff at other Philippine hotels we've stayed at - they're not the type to jump up and greet you every single time they see you - which is good because it made for our interactions to feel more genuine. Internet connection is secured and fast. TV has great options. Our room was spacious, and clean. We hear guests from the hallway but not once they've entered their room. Bathroom's also kept very clean and stocked, there is hot water and water pressure is great.

Your Travel Guide to Baguio City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baguio City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Baguio City from Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos. The most common and economical way is by bus. Several reputable bus companies, such as Victory Liner and Genesis Transport, operate frequent trips from Metro Manila to Baguio. The journey typically takes between 5 to 7 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 700 to PHP 1,000, depending on the bus type (e.g., executive or regular). Buses depart from terminals in Cubao, Pasay, and Caloocan.

For those who prefer to fly, the nearest major airport is Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga. From Clark, you can take a bus directly to Baguio City, which takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Alternatively, you can book a flight to Baguio's Loakan Airport, though direct flights are less common and can be more expensive. Booking your flight to Clark or other accessible airports in advance through Traveloka can help you find competitive prices and convenient schedules.

Driving to Baguio City is also an option for those with their own vehicles. The primary route is via the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), connecting to the TPLEX and then to the MacArthur Highway, eventually leading to the Zigzag Road or Marcos Highway into Baguio. Toll fees can add up, so it's advisable to factor this into your budget. The scenic drive offers beautiful views as you ascend into the Cordillera mountains.

Best Time to Visit Baguio City

Baguio City experiences a generally cool climate year-round, making it a welcome respite from the heat. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is typically sunny and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 23 degrees Celsius. This period is ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions without the worry of heavy rainfall.

The peak tourist season coincides with the dry months, especially from December to February, and during holidays like Christmas and Holy Week. This is also when the city hosts its famous Panagbenga Festival in February, a spectacular flower festival that draws large crowds. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, early December, or late January.

The wet season, from June to October, brings cooler temperatures and frequent rainfall. While this period can be less crowded, heavy rains can sometimes disrupt travel plans or limit outdoor activities. However, for those who don't mind occasional showers and enjoy the lush, green scenery that the rain brings, this can still be a rewarding time to visit. Always check the weather forecast before your trip, regardless of the season.

Food and Dining Near Baguio City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Baguio City offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects its unique culture and highland setting. One must-try is the **Strawberry Taho**. Unlike the usual soy-based taho, Baguio's version incorporates fresh strawberries, adding a sweet and tangy twist to the silken tofu and sago. You'll find vendors selling this refreshing treat throughout the city, especially near popular tourist spots.

Another local specialty is **Ube Kinampay**. This purple yam is a staple in Filipino desserts, and Baguio offers delicious preparations, from ube jam to ube-flavored pastries and cakes. The rich, earthy flavor of ube is a comforting taste for many Filipinos, and Baguio's versions are often praised for their quality. Look for local bakeries and pasaluyong shops for these delightful treats.

For a more savory experience, try **Pinikpikan**. This traditional Cordilleran dish involves a unique preparation method where the meat (usually chicken) is lightly beaten to draw out blood, which is then cooked with vegetables like etag (smoked pork) and ginger. The result is a flavorful and hearty soup that offers a taste of authentic highland cuisine. It’s a dish that speaks to the region's culinary heritage.

Don't leave Baguio without trying **Smoked Meats**, particularly those prepared with local herbs and spices. The cool climate is perfect for enjoying these hearty dishes. Many restaurants and local markets offer various smoked pork and chicken options. Pair these with local vegetables for a truly satisfying meal that captures the essence of Baguio's food culture. Exploring these local flavors is a key part of the travel experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Baguio City

Baguio City is known for its friendly locals and rich cultural heritage, particularly its indigenous roots. When interacting with residents, a polite and respectful demeanor is always appreciated. Learning a few basic phrases in Ilocano or Kankanaey, though not essential, can be a nice gesture. The city is generally safe for tourists, but like any urban area, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places.

For safety, it's recommended to keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, especially at night. If you encounter any issues, the local police can be reached at their emergency hotline. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and any local friends or contacts readily available.

When it comes to essential apps for your trip, having a reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around the city and finding your way to attractions and your hotel. A ride-hailing app can be useful for booking taxis, though traditional taxis are also widely available and generally safe. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger are standard for staying in touch. Consider downloading a weather app to stay updated on Baguio's famously changeable climate.

This hotel is okay overall—the staff are nice and the buffets are decent. However, for the price per night, I don’t think it offers good value for money. The interior design feels all over the place, as if it’s trying to look upscale but ends up looking cheap instead. Unfortunately, that carries through to the rooms. I was disappointed to find that there’s no in-room telephone and no TV subscriptions. If you need to contact the front desk, you have to use your own phone. There’s also no gym. For the rate they’re charging, these omissions are hard to overlook and make the lack of thoughtful planning even more apparent. Small details add to the frustration—some of the room tiles don’t even have proper grouting, and soundproofing is poor. You can clearly hear guests in the hallway and even inside neighboring rooms, especially when they’re being rowdy. Honestly, many of these issues would have been easier to forgive if the price weren’t so high. Charging at least 7,800 per night feels excessive given what’s provided. There are nearby hotels that cost slightly less yet offer more amenities and a more polished, luxurious feel. I only chose this one because it looked decent in the photos and was one of the few available in the area—but in reality, it didn’t live up to the price tag.

Limited parking space. By 8:00 AM, the buffet breakfast was already depleted, and it seemed the hotel did not anticipate the number of guests availing the complimentary breakfast. We had to wait for refills, and when food was replenished, the choices were still quite limited. Additionally, there was a discrepancy between the room I booked on Hotels.com and the room provided during check-in.

There is no phone in the rooms, one outlet to plug in chargers, no couch and center table to relax in, staff is not very friendly, bathroom is nice and modern, the soap they provide is so small. Coffee shop needs to open earlier than 7. We pulled up to the driveway, it took them 15 min to be greeted when it is not even busy. The place smells like sewer.
