Your Travel Guide to Angeles as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Angeles from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Angeles City is quite accessible for most Filipinos. From Manila, the most common and convenient way is by bus. Numerous bus companies operate daily routes from major terminals like Cubao and Pasay, heading directly to Dau Bus Terminal in Mabalacat, Pampanga. The trip typically takes about 2 to 3 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500, depending on the bus company and class.

For those who prefer a faster journey, book flight tickets to Clark International Airport (CRK). This airport serves many domestic routes, and flights from major Philippine cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo are available. From CRK, it's a short taxi or ride-sharing service trip to Angeles City.

If you are driving from Metro Manila, take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) towards Clark. The drive is generally smooth and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Having your own vehicle offers flexibility in exploring Pampanga.

Best Time to Visit Angeles

The Philippines generally experiences a tropical climate, and Angeles City is no exception. The dry season, from November to April, is often considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions.

The cool months of December to February are particularly pleasant, with temperatures being more comfortable for sightseeing. However, this period also coincides with peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or March.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher rainfall, often in the form of afternoon showers or thunderstorms. While this period might see fewer tourists, it can still be a good time to visit if you are prepared for the weather and are looking for more budget-friendly options. Always check the weather forecast before your trip.

Food and Dining Near Angeles — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Pampanga is renowned as the culinary capital of the Philippines, and Angeles City offers a fantastic array of local delicacies. A must-try is Sisig, a sizzling dish made from chopped pig's face and ears, seasoned with onions, chili, and calamansi, often served on a hot plate. It's a flavorful and iconic Kapampangan dish.

Another local favorite is Bringhe, a Filipino version of paella, made with glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk, turmeric, and other spices, often mixed with chicken, pork, and vegetables. Its rich, creamy texture and aromatic spices make it a comforting and delicious meal.

Don't leave Angeles without trying Betute Tugak, or stuffed frog. While it might sound adventurous, it's a delicacy prepared with seasoned minced frog meat, often fried to a crisp. For those with a sweet tooth, Tibok-tibok, a milk pudding made from carabao's milk, is a delightful dessert. You can find these dishes in local carinderias and restaurants throughout the city.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Angeles

Kapampangans are known for their hospitality and strong sense of community. When interacting with locals, politeness and respect go a long way. Learning a few basic Kapampangan phrases can be appreciated, though Tagalog and English are widely understood.

For safety, Angeles City is generally safe for tourists, especially in well-trafficked areas. However, like any urban center, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It's also advisable to use reputable transportation services.

In case of emergencies, the local police hotline is typically 911. For communication and navigation, having a reliable smartphone is essential. Consider downloading apps like Google Maps for directions, Grab for ride-hailing services, and Traveloka for booking accommodations and attractions. Having a local SIM card can also be beneficial for staying connected.

Cons: There was no mention of a shared bathroom for the room type selected until after the booking was made. When I arrived at the hotel there was no water in the bathrooms so toilets would not flush and could not use the sinks or showers. No TV in the room. Questionable cleanliness of the bed sheets and pillow cases. Pros: The staff were friendly at least.

I asked my girlfriend to check in early for me, so as to turn on the air con and fridge. Staff said I had not reserved a room. Made her sit in lobby until I arrived late due to plane late arrival. I said to the receptionist, My room Booking. She asked if I had a reservation. I said YES, through expedia. She found it in 30 secs. As this was my 3rd visit, I was upset they lied to my fiancee. Staff do not care!!! every stay been like this. I ask for room clean and give them the key. 1st time said they only do it once every 2 days. Rubbish, she just lazy, I growl and saw canadian manager, he sorted it out. Then WiFi on and off all the time. Then when staff clean, forget toilet tissues most times and never soap replaced. I had to go and get myself. Room never clean always dirt on floor still, and aircond always dusty and cobwebs. Bedding attrocious, Expedia notes confirm proper mattress etc, but rubbish thin foam. Pillows lumpy. Linen must be 3 + years old, with stains and cigarette burns - very thin and ill fitting. We have been trying to find a good hotel for 2 yrs now, stay here normally as cheap and good position close to walking street, bars and shopping. But this time the cost was suddenly increased $10 / day to due to some stupid balloon festival. No wonder the hotel was nearly empty. Security is a joke. NO POOL, NO COOKING facilities, Expedia should check on the lies they place in their description of the hotel.

The private bachelor room did Not have a private restroom. When I booked it, I thought it did. When I arrived, the receptionist was cold and Not helpful. She informed me, my room did Not have private restroom. So, I said "ok, I would like to upgrade to the next level with restroom". She gave me the most Expensive room an upgrade of another $600 peso. When, I asked all the other rooms are empty, and has private restroom. She says: Those are Not available. I saw 5 other rooms that are all empty. Then she called the owner and informed me, the only room available is the most expensive one. So, I had to pay the most expensive room, while the whole hotel was empty. There were no other guests in that hotel. Then, 3 hours later, I was walking around and I found out this hotel has another branch hotel has the same owner. And they do have Many other rooms with a private restroom for the same price of $950 peso. I asked to receptions to be transferred to their sister hotel and get my $600 peso back. She says NO!, And that I can transfer tomorrow if I chose. This hotel wants your money, and plays too many games with customers. They are Not honest. I don't recommend this hotel at all.

Horrible experience. The WiFi and cable took turns not working, sometimes both at the same time. Hotel staff was utterly indifferent and spent most of their time sitting in chairs by reception gazing into their "Magic Mirrors" (mobile phones). No housekeeping service at all. I had to empty my own trash, request fresh bed lines and towels, change the bed sheets (wish I hadn't done that after seeing the disgusting stains on the mattress) and sweep the room myself. Part-way through my stay the hotel staff wanted me to move to another room. No explanation but I found out that another guest was arriving for a 10 day stay and they wanted to put him/her in my room. The only redeeming quality about this hotel is that it is close to the Angeles City nightlife (less than a 5 minute walk) and is in a safe area. Really though, there are countless rooms in this town, many at a cheaper price and in better managed places, and you would do better to go almost anywhere else. If I could give this hotel a "less than zero" rating I would.

Friendly but incredibly inefficient staff. None of them seemed to have a clue about the hospitality industry and mostly they sat in the lounge staring into their "magic mirrors" (mobile phones). When I first checked in the cable t.v. was out. When I asked about when it would be fixed the response was, "We hope so Sir." The next day the Internet went out. When I asked about when that would be fixed the response was, "We called Mr. Tate.". The day before my final night they asked me to change rooms. No reason given at the time but I learned later that they had another guest coming in for a week-long stay and wanted to give them my room. In the four days there they NEVER cleaned the room. Ihad to go to the front desk to obtain clean sheets and toilet paper and make the bed myself, as well as collecting my own trash and taking it out for disposal myself. The ONLY redeeming factor about this place is that it is close to the Fields Ave/Walking Street nightlife, but you have a lot of other choices in the same area and just down the street and would be better served to chose one of them.

The check-in was problematic. Initially, they tried to fob me off with a room with shared bathroom. This was unacceptable as the room I booked was clearly advertised on Hotels.com as having a private bathroom. About 3 times they tried to insist I had booked a "Bachelor Studio" so could only have a room with shared bathroom. But this room type is described on the website as having a private bathroom, so I refused to accept. Eventually, the receptionist made a couple of phone calls and then "upgraded" me to a room in another hotel. After being assured that there was nothing extra to pay and that the other hotel was only 5 minutes walk away, I agreed albeit with some suspicion. But the room I ended up with was excellent. The other hotel was in fact only about 2 minutes walk away, and the room was very comfortable, very clean and nicely decorated, with all facilities including working TV, aircon and fridge. So although I was irritated by the attempted con in the first place, I was more than satisfied with the room I eventually got. So can be recommended, as long as any prospective guests insist on getting a room that matches what they actually booked.

When I got to the Hotel the Hotel was CLOSED. I had to fine another hotel in the area to stay. Please update your site with current information. This was a waste of time and money.

This was really amazing bad, good location and aircon works well thats all. Too noisy, water leaks from roof. Noise from trafic and staff. Half of electric works. Its a nono. Youll find much better hotel nearby same price where you can have a rest and sleep. Stayed for one week...exhausted..

Booked a room with 32" tv and bathroom, I guessed they photo shopped the pic because there was none, had to pay double to upgrade to get what I initially booked but it was worse, wifi non exsistant, loud AC unit, roaches, uncomfortable bed, no shower curtain..definitely last time I book anything thru expedia
