Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Pasay is the most efficient option. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is located within Pasay City itself. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer numerous daily flights from major cities such as Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 8,000 depending on the destination and booking time. You can book flight tickets easily through Traveloka.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, bus travel is a common and economical choice. Major bus terminals like those in Cubao and Pasay offer routes to various destinations. For travel to Pasay, you can take buses heading directly to the city or to the vicinity of the Mall of Asia. Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, with travel times varying significantly based on distance and traffic conditions.

Driving to Pasay is also feasible, especially for those coming from surrounding provinces. Major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connect to Metro Manila's road network, leading to Pasay. Be prepared for potential traffic and toll fees, which can add to the overall travel cost.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Pasay is no exception. The dry season, typically from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring the city, with lower humidity and less rainfall. This period is ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

The peak tourist season generally coincides with the dry months, especially around the Christmas holidays and Holy Week. During these times, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a more relaxed visit and potentially better rates, consider the shoulder months of November or February.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period sees more frequent rain showers, they are often short-lived and can be followed by sunshine. Traveling during the wet season can offer a more budget-friendly experience, with fewer tourists and lower prices for flights and hotels.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some hotel restaurants.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, often with pork, fish, or shrimp. The distinct sourness comes from tamarind, though other fruits like guava or kamias are sometimes used. It’s a comforting dish, especially on a cooler day or after a long day of travel.

For a taste of something sweet and refreshing, Halo-Halo is the perfect dessert. This popular Filipino treat is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a colorful and delicious way to cool down, and many local spots offer their unique take on this beloved dessert.

Lechon, a whole roasted pig with crispy skin, is a celebratory dish often found at parties and gatherings. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (fried pork belly) or lechon paksiw (pork stewed in liver sauce), which provide a similar flavor profile. These dishes are rich and satisfying.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. It's customary to be polite and respectful, especially when interacting with elders. Learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Magandang araw" (Good day) can go a long way in fostering positive interactions.

When exploring Pasay, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, to avoid petty theft. Keep your valuables secure and be cautious of unsolicited offers. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and local authorities readily available.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading essential apps. Grab is indispensable for ride-hailing and food delivery, making transportation and dining convenient. Google Maps is crucial for navigation, helping you find your way around the city. For communication, WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used by locals.

The walls and doors are apparently thin, lots of noise from the hallway and other rooms. There was a noisy fight in the hallway, later on cleaning people talking loudly in the hallway. We had a 4AM flight and didn't get much sleep because of all the noise. Also, it took about 30 minutes for them to check us in, even though we had a hotels.com confirmation number. Room was clean and comfortable. Hot water in shower was fine. I'll avoid this hotel in the future.

You hear occasionally the sound from outside because apperently a lot of people still work after midnight honking en traffic rush hour. If you wanna decide too hire a car or a scooter please consider for your own safety. Because the people here drive like how can i say it nice inpatiently. I drove with taxi so I shaw it all happen,. POINT BARRE .

git there and they didn't have my reservation and had to email my confirmation email which I find really annoying... got to our room and the bad wasn't made up so we went for dinner to give then time to do it and still not done at our return... the cleaning guys did a good job in a timely manner but we had to wait during that time...

========= Hotel is in a busy part of Manila. But furthermore hotel was nice personal was very friendly and helpful.
