What Guests Say About Their Stay

Marlowe Eriberto Jr

The location is quiet and comfortable, though far from the nearest tourist destination. The hotel is generally clean, from the exterior to the pool, halls, and rooms. The elevator had a moldy smell though. The restaurant has adequate options for every kind of traveler, but they did have a special pastry that they can boast of as one of a kind and truly theirs. The room rate was much less than what it is actually worth.

Your Travel Guide to Roxas City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Roxas City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Roxas City from Manila is most efficiently done by air. Several airlines operate daily flights to Roxas Airport (RPS). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options are often available for those who plan ahead.

For travelers coming from other major cities in the Philippines like Cebu or Iloilo, direct flights might be available, or you may need to connect through Manila. Alternatively, for a more scenic and budget-conscious journey, bus travel is an option, though it is considerably longer. Buses depart from major terminals in Manila and other provincial hubs, with travel times extending to over 12 hours.

If you prefer to drive, Roxas City is accessible via well-maintained national highways. The journey from Manila by car can take upwards of 10-12 hours, depending on stops and traffic. This option offers the most flexibility for exploring the surrounding areas of Capiz at your own pace.

Best Time to Visit Roxas City

The climate in Roxas City, like much of the Philippines, is tropical. The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the best time to visit for most travelers. During these months, you can expect sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the city's attractions, and enjoying its famous seafood.

The wet season runs from June to October, characterized by more frequent rainfall. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. If you don't mind occasional rain showers and are looking for a more tranquil visit, the wet season can still be a good time to experience Roxas City.

For those interested in local festivals, the Sinadya sa Bayle, a major festival celebrating the city's patron saint, usually takes place in late August. Visiting during this time offers a chance to witness vibrant parades, cultural performances, and lively street celebrations, providing a deeper insight into the local culture.

Food and Dining Near Roxas City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Roxas City truly lives up to its title as the Seafood Capital, and indulging in its culinary offerings is a highlight for any Filipino traveler. Freshly grilled oysters are a must-try; you'll find them prepared simply with a squeeze of calamansi and a dash of soy sauce, showcasing their natural briny flavor. Many local eateries and carinderias along the coast offer these.

Another local delicacy is the "Diwal," a type of shellfish known for its sweet and succulent meat. Often served steamed or grilled, diwal is a seasonal treat, so be sure to ask for it when you visit. Its unique taste is a direct reflection of the pristine waters of Capiz.

Don't leave Roxas City without trying its version of Kinilaw. Unlike other regions, Capiz's Kinilaw often features a generous amount of ginger and onions, giving it a distinctively fresh and zesty profile. It’s a perfect appetizer, especially when paired with a cold local beer.

For those who enjoy a bit of spice, try the "La Paz Batchoy," a hearty noodle soup with pork and offal, though it's more commonly associated with Iloilo, Roxas City offers its own delicious renditions. It’s a comforting and flavorful dish, perfect for a satisfying meal. Exploring the local markets and smaller restaurants will lead you to these authentic flavors.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Roxas City

Filipino hospitality is renowned, and Roxas City is no exception. Locals are generally friendly and welcoming. A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders, and a polite demeanor, go a long way in showing respect. Understanding basic local customs will enhance your interactions and overall experience.

When it comes to safety, Roxas City is considered a relatively safe destination for travelers. However, it's always wise to exercise standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For any emergencies, local police can be reached at their hotline.

For seamless travel, having a few essential apps on your smartphone is highly recommended. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. Ride-hailing apps or local transport apps can help you find your way around the city. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used by Filipinos.

It's also beneficial to have the Traveloka app installed on your phone. This allows you to easily manage your bookings, search for accommodations, and discover local attractions and activities. Having these tools readily available ensures a smoother and more enjoyable trip to Roxas City.

Do not book with this hotel, as they falsely advertise what amenities they have. We booked a room here based on the fact that they advertised that they have a pool, and that its use is included with our room. However, after we checked in and went to use the pool, they told us that the pool is only for special events and would not let us use it. No where in the advertisement did it say that pool was only for special events. The pool was listed as one of the room amenities. The only reason we booked that particular hotel instead of one that was closer to our destination was because it had a pool. They also advertised that the rooms came with complimentary bottled water, but that wasn't true either. when I brought these issues up to the front desk, they blew me off like they didn't care. Don't ever stay at this hotel!

Hotel room not exactly reflects from website photos (atleast the one assigned to me). Very small room and dumpy. No dressers, tables chairs and bathroom was definitely below standard and not as described from website photos. Room is L-shape and probably measured 16x20 ft. Not enough towels and other bathroom amenities. I asked staff for another room but claimed none is available at the time, so decided to check out (despite the room have been paid off for 3 nights) and transfer out to another more comfortable hotel. Atleast provided bus shuttle when I moved. This customer will not recommend this hotel to others and if you are looking at photos of this hotel and described amenities, believe me, it is not exactly as depicted as advertised. I strongly discourage future customers to opt other hotel from the area (such as Urban Manor which is halfway better than this hotel, or the Veronica hotel that is by far the best hotel I stayed in). I will neve this never, never choose this hotel if ever I find my way back in Roxas City. Thank you for taking my comments constructively.

Lots to say here, room 145 had a terrible smell of methane gas from sewer, and switched to room 153 after a whole night of suffering the awe full smell, room 149 had an aunt problem, waterpark had a no ticket no entry policy which I had a problem with as I’m old already but wanted to check the kids in the waterpark but they wanted to charge me which I ended paying with regret

It was a pleasant experience, the people are very helpful and we are always greeted with smile. The hotel itself is in good condition, well maintained. Will definitely be back here on our next trip.

It was a and comfortable stay, though room size a bit small but the facility seems new. Food at their restauran was great as well as their staff! It’s just a bit odd that you have to pay in order for you to use their pool.

We arrived late night from the Bus Terminal and just walked. Great location near Robinsons Mall as well. Staff was very accommodating. Food was decent and priced well- very affordable. We had to get up early for an early flight and they prepared a tricycle for us. Value for Money!

Best hotel I've found in the area. Staff is excellent. Food is not bad either. One bedroom suite is well worth the cost. New pool of high quality
