Staffs were very accommodating from check-in to check-out. They're very keen to details and make sure that every request is granted. For the room, it was so clean and it really smelling good. It has a homey ambiance wherein you just wanted to lay down all day long and relax yourself. Breakfast was also good, it compliments the taal. Having a zip of your hot drink while having the taal view is impeccable. I highly recommend this place!

Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Getting to Tagaytay City from Manila is a popular weekend trip for many Filipinos. The most common way is by car, with the drive typically taking about 1.5 to 2 hours via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Tagaytay-Calamba Road or Aguinaldo Highway. For those without a private vehicle, buses are a very convenient and affordable option.

Several bus companies operate routes from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao and Pasay, directly to Tagaytay City. Fares are generally budget-friendly, ranging from PHP 150 to PHP 300, depending on the bus company and type of service. The journey usually takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic. You can easily book your flight to Manila if you're coming from other parts of the Philippines.

For travelers coming from further afield in the Philippines, the most practical first step is to book a flight to Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). From NAIA, you can then proceed to one of the bus terminals mentioned above to catch a bus to Tagaytay. This multi-modal approach makes Tagaytay accessible from virtually anywhere in the country.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City enjoys a cooler climate year-round compared to the lowlands, making it a pleasant destination any time. However, the best time to visit is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with comfortable temperatures, perfect for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic views.

The months of December to February are particularly popular due to the cooler weather and festive holiday atmosphere. This is also peak season, so expect more crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. If you prefer fewer crowds and slightly lower rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional rain showers. While this might deter some, it also means fewer tourists and lush, green landscapes. The rain is often intermittent, so you can still enjoy your trip by planning indoor activities or being prepared with an umbrella and raincoat. The cooler temperatures persist even during this season.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagaytay is renowned for its culinary scene, offering a delightful array of Filipino dishes and international flavors. A must-try for any Filipino traveler is Bulalo, a hearty soup made from beef shanks and bone marrow, slow-cooked until tender. The rich, savory broth is perfect for Tagaytay's cool weather. Many restaurants along the highway offer this classic dish.

Another local specialty you shouldn't miss is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, often made with pork, beef, or seafood and flavored with tamarind. The tangy broth is incredibly comforting and a staple in Filipino cuisine. You'll find various versions of sinigang in local eateries, each with its unique twist.

For those with a sweet tooth, Tagaytay offers delicious Buko Pie, a baked young coconut pie with a creamy, sweet filling and a flaky crust. It's a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) to bring home. You can find freshly baked buko pies in numerous shops scattered throughout the city.

Don't forget to try the local coffee and pastries. Many cafes in Tagaytay offer locally sourced coffee beans, providing a rich and aromatic experience. Pair your coffee with some freshly baked pandesal or other Filipino bread for a delightful morning or afternoon snack. Exploring the local food scene is a significant part of the Tagaytay experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

Filipino culture is generally warm and hospitable, and Tagaytay is no exception. Visitors are encouraged to be respectful of local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting churches or religious sites. A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders goes a long way in showing respect. Always greet people with a smile.

Safety in Tagaytay City is generally good, but like any travel destination, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded areas. It's also advisable to have the contact numbers of local authorities handy. For emergencies, dial 911, which is the nationwide emergency number in the Philippines.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for booking transport, though tricycles are very common for shorter distances within Tagaytay. A weather app can help you plan your day, especially during the rainy season. Finally, having the Traveloka app on your phone will make it easy to book hotels and attractions on the go.

Loved the cozy room with the view of Taal Lake and the breakfast served in the balcony. We wanted to hangout at the terrace but they are doing some repairs so at the time we were there we can onky hang out inside our room. The room could use a bit more cleaning. Overall, the room, bfast and service was ok. It' also great that they have it was walking distance to starbucks and other restaurants.

All hotels in Tagaytay have beautiful views on the lake, but Joaquin’s has probably the the best angle. The terrasse is wonderful and the rooms are comfortable and proper. It would help if the staff were a bit more fluent in English.

The staff helpful and accommodating; didn’t like the welcome drink, buko juice will be better. The rooms are clean and lovely w/ the whimsical decor. The garden w/ the view of Taal volcano and surroundings is beautiful! Breakfast was okey but they should improve the quality of the fruits. It’s a great place to just relax and while away time .

We stayed only one night but were very comfortable & loved the quirky arty decor. The Filipino breakfast was delicious & staff very cheerful & helpful. The main negative was the busy road & constant traffic jams which made going anywhere in a vehicle very slow or walking on the road not pleasant. This is the same anywhere in Taygaytay. However the rooms are quiet & calm. The main highlight is of course the fabulous view, especially as the sun set.

I had high hopes for Joaquin's. There was a storm when we stayed there, so maybe they were unprepared for it, but in order for us to go to our room, we had to go down four flights of stairs with our luggages. There was no proper cover so we were drenched. It's definitely not for people who are older. When we arrived, the room was okay, but the floors were too slippery. There was no hot water from the shower. Wi-fi didn't work. There were dead insects over the glass windows that didn't get cleaned. When we had our breakfast, cats kept meowing because they were expecting us to feed them, and when they left we saw that they immediately went up to the table to scour for food.

Joaquin's has a great view of Taal. We stayed in a garden room which was quiet and refreshing. The room was beautiful. We were able to order from a breakfast menu and it was brought to our room promptly when we requested. People that have difficulty with steps might not enjoy the many steps down to the garden level. But the benefit of the many steps is that it takes away from the road so that its quieter. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back.

Great location. Although on a busy road all rooms are facing the lake and are quiet and pleasant.

Gorgeous room with an incredible view - every little thing had been thought of! The breakfast was also delicious, the staff were really friendly, and we'd definitely stay again.

The only concern was the bfast delivery always late, even though you told them the time you want the food to be delivered you still need to call them to deliver

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we both agree that we picked our best hotel ever. Amazing view from every room... very quiet even though it's right next to a fairly busy road. Staff were excellent, breakfast was perfect. Walking distance to shops..restaurants..coffee shops and malls. We would definitely recommend this place to family and friends... thanks for a lovely stay .

I overlooked our hotel stay, i booked at expedia on dec 20 & 21. But we got to tagaytay dec 19 and 20, but staff were very kind enough to accommodate us and really gave the room we booked. Thank you so much. As always, it is a pleasurable stay at joaquin's.
