Lovely little place. Very small so if you’re looking for a big hotel with lots of facilities it won’t be for you. But the room was great, big, good air con, comfortable bed etc. and very nice people, reasonably priced food and drink etc. overall for the price I was very much surprised on the upside and would definitely recommend. However some rooms are quite small so I’d recommend paying a tiny bit extra for one of the bigger rooms if they’re available. We had room 10 and it was lovely.

Your Travel Guide to Zamboanguita as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Zamboanguita from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Zamboanguita from Manila is by flying into Dumaguete Airport (DGT). Several airlines operate flights from Manila (MNL) to Dumaguete. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options can often be found if you plan ahead. From Dumaguete Airport, you can take a taxi or arrange for a private transfer to Zamboanguita, which is about an hour's drive.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Iloilo, flights to Dumaguete are also available. These flights are generally shorter. If you prefer a more scenic, albeit longer, journey, you can consider ferry services to Dumaguete from various ports, though this is less common for travelers coming from Luzon. Once in Dumaguete City, the onward journey to Zamboanguita remains the same via land transport.

If you are traveling from nearby Visayas provinces, bus or van services are readily available to Dumaguete City. From Dumaguete, you can catch a bus or van heading south towards Zamboanguita. The fare for these public transport options is quite affordable, making it a cost-effective choice for many Filipino travelers. Remember to book your flight to Dumaguete early for the best prices.

Best Time to Visit Zamboanguita

The Philippines generally experiences two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. For Zamboanguita and the surrounding Negros Oriental region, the dry season typically runs from December to May. This period is characterized by sunny skies and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, beach enjoyment, and exploring the natural attractions. The months of January to April are often considered the peak of the dry season and offer the most pleasant weather.

The wet season usually spans from June to November. During these months, you can expect more frequent rainfall, which can range from brief showers to more prolonged downpours. While the rain can sometimes disrupt outdoor plans, it also means fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. If you don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a more tranquil visit, the shoulder months of the wet season can still be enjoyable. For beach activities and island hopping, the dry season is generally preferred.

Food and Dining Near Zamboanguita — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Negros Oriental, particularly near Dumaguete and Zamboanguita, you must try Kinilaw. This is the Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is cured in vinegar, often with ginger, onions, and chili peppers. It's a refreshing appetizer or light meal, showcasing the freshness of local seafood. You can find excellent Kinilaw at local eateries and markets, including potentially at Malatapay Market.

Another local specialty to seek out is SUTUKIL, a cooking method popular in the Visayas region. SUTUKIL stands for Sugba (grill), Tuwa (stew/soup), and Kilaw (raw/ceviche). Many restaurants in the area offer this, allowing you to choose your fresh seafood and have it prepared in one of these three delicious ways. It’s a fantastic way to sample different flavors and preparations of local catches.

Don't leave the region without trying some local delicacies. Negros Oriental is known for its sweets and pastries. Look for treats like *piaya* (a flat, unleavened bread filled with muscovado sugar and sometimes yema) or *budbud* (a type of sticky rice cake often flavored with coconut). These are perfect for pasalubong (souvenirs) or a sweet snack.

For a more substantial meal, consider trying *Sinigang* or *Adobo*, classic Filipino comfort foods that are universally loved. While available everywhere in the Philippines, local variations might offer unique regional twists. Exploring local carinderias (small eateries) is often the best way to find authentic and affordable Filipino dishes.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Zamboanguita

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. In Zamboanguita, you'll likely experience this firsthand. A simple "Maayong Buntag" (Good Morning) or "Salamat" (Thank You) in the local dialect can go a long way. Respect local customs, dress modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas, and always ask permission before taking photos of people.

Negros Oriental is generally a safe province for tourists. However, it's always wise to exercise standard safety precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places like markets. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, know the local police and hospital contact numbers, which can usually be obtained from your accommodation.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around and finding your way to attractions. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter situations where communication is a barrier, though English is widely understood in tourist areas. For booking transportation or activities, having the Traveloka app handy is recommended.

It's also a good idea to have a local currency converter app, especially if you're coming from abroad or dealing with various vendors. Staying informed about local weather forecasts through an app can help you plan your daily activities more effectively, particularly during the rainy season.

The staff were very friendly and the room was clean. The Breakfast was also very good. However I was disappointed by the lack of evening guest related activities. The Resort could really benefit from a Beach based nightly BBQ for guests. And the Hot Tub next to the Pool was always Cold. Which I later discovered was due to them not having a Heater for it. If they address these two concerns the Resort would get 5 stars all round from me.

My only complaint is with the 3rd party online booking company. I filled out the information, 2 Adults, 1child- age 14. I picked the room from the choices I was given (Oceanview Deluxe) My TOTAL price to pay came up and I booked it, and received my paid in full email. When we got there the hotel told us there was a mistake with our booking. Our child was over 10 yrs old. So, I explained and showed them my receipt showing 2 adults 1 child age 14, Ocean Deluxe rm. Paid in full. Their very kind manager called the owner, and after only a few minutes everything was sorted out and they said it was a mistake on the side of the 3rd party booking co., and we were checked in, and glad we stayed. The owner is a very dedicated and a hard working gentleman and it shows by the condition of their Resort. I only had the pleasure of speaking to him for a brief moment. He is in my book a War hero, but would never admit to it, and looks to be maybe only 37-40 yrs old. The staff were great! The food was fantastic! The room was perfect! It is a small resort but just the right size place to get the service you would expect. The pool is great and very clean. They light touches everynight on the beach. It was a little bumpy at check in, but it was not their fault nor mine, it was the online 3rd party booking company, ( which he said has been fixed). They handled it professionally, and we would recommend Kav's Resort 100%.

We booked the family room even though there were only two of us. On the whole or stay was pleasant, so much so that we were going to extend our stay until the last night. The room was comfortable with big beds and a bath tub in the bathroom which is a nice bonus. The pool is very nice and the place is right on the sandy beach although it is rocky in the sea. The resteraunt has lots of choice but many of the meals are not prepared fresh and as such it can be a bit and miss experience. The staff were very polite and extremely accommodating. All in all it was a decent value stay until the last night when we were burgled. We went out for the evening and came back after midnight to find all or possessions had been ransacked and many items stolen. Police were informed and manager seemed shocked and this unfortunately will be the experience we remember from our stay.

If you're here for Apo island, it's not a terrible place to stay. The outside and pool look decent but the room and especially the bathroom are awful (slow draining water, dirty and moldy shower curtain, etc.) Also, get ready to sign a draw out contract for what you are not allowed to do. You'll feel like a teenager with curfew rules. The restaurant is terrible. The price is relatively sensible so I recommend this place but only until you're done snorkeling Apo island. Lastly, don't overpay for tricycles. Take the jeepney or Ceres bus around.

I really enjoyed my stay at Kav's! I hadn't realised how far Zamboangita was from Dauin though. It takes around 25 mins on the Jeepney but is only 10peso (Tricycles want 150-200) I came to scuba dive so I did have to travel back & forth, however the resort was much nicer than the budget accomodation in Dauin and cheaper than the higher end resorts in Dauin, so for me it was worth it. The pool was nice, the grounds are well maintained and very green - realxing environment, beach front, food good, staff friendly, Wifi actually worked! It was quiet and the room was very comfortable and modern with TV & mini bar which was reasonably priced. The shower was excellent and air con worked well. It is not sign posted from the road so if you stay and intend to take public transport, you will need to get off at St Peter's chapel on the right from Dauin and then it's a 5-10 min walk off one of the side roads. The jeepney & bus drivers are very helpful there. (I over shot my stop in the dark and the bus driver flagged another one to take me back for free and carried my bag over!) The bus is slightly more, approx 16 peso. I would stay back here and travel to Dauin as I thought it was good value for money. There is nothing around though so if you want shops / bars / restaurants then stay in Dauin or Dumaguete.

We have stayed only one night on our way to the Apo island and found this place very good. Although place doesn't have 24 hours running reception you can call in advance and hotel representative will wait for you, which was really convenient for us arriving after midnight. Room was really good, had everything we need including complimentary water and tea facilities, bathroom was clean and quite new as well. Unfortunately, restaurant service is run this place down. Service is really really slow and food quality weren't so good as well. We have ordered our breakfast and have to wait around 45 minutes before it arrived. Even after mentioning that we are in a hurry it took another 15 minutes to serve it. We have also ordered fresh mango juice and it was absolutely tasteless, you can mainly taste ice, not mango. Overall good hotel with not really good restaurant.

When arrived the checkin was very fast and efficient. Place was very well groomed and super clean. Rooms were amazing...even aircon already on so nice fresh and cool inside. Staff was always smiling and eager to help. Food was excellent. No problems at all. Only thing was internet was shorty in the room. Great in the lounge. Beautiful place, one of the nicest to this day I have been. Thanks

I liked the privacy but found it very warm and relaxing. It was a shock when hit with a charge for non-paitrons. A bit of warning would have been good.

Nice and clean place, being small makes it cozy. Very well maintained. Only problem is food can be better, Overall it is not bad food but can be improved. I guess part of problem Philippines doesn’t have many kind of veggies, that reflects on the food. I highly recommend this property, friendly place.
