Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Metro Manila is the most efficient option. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer frequent flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from various provincial capitals. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. Travel time from major cities like Cebu or Davao is typically around 1 to 1.5 hours.

If you prefer land travel or are coming from nearby provinces, bus terminals are readily available in Quezon City and other parts of Metro Manila. Companies like Victory Liner, Genesis Transport, and Five Star Bus ply routes from Northern Luzon, while others serve Southern Luzon. Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500 for longer provincial trips, with travel times varying significantly based on distance and traffic.

Driving to Quezon City is also an option for those with their own vehicles. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Metro Manila. Toll fees can add up, typically ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 600 for a round trip depending on your starting point. Navigating Metro Manila traffic requires patience, especially during peak hours.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Quezon City is no exception. The dry season, generally from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Temperatures typically range from 24°C to 32°C.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it's advisable to pack an umbrella and be prepared for potential travel disruptions due to heavy rain. The Christmas season, from December to January, is particularly festive, with many decorations and events throughout the city.

For the best balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or February. These periods fall within the dry season but tend to be less crowded than the peak holiday months of December and January, offering a more relaxed exploration of Quezon City's attractions.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is a delightful exploration of flavors, and Quezon City offers numerous opportunities to sample its best. Adobo, a national dish, is a must-try, featuring meat (often chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. You can find excellent versions in many local eateries, often served with steamed rice.

Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, is another staple that showcases the Filipino palate's love for tangy flavors. Made with tamarind broth and various meats and vegetables like kangkong and radish, it's a comforting dish, especially on a cooler evening. Many restaurants in Quezon City serve this hearty soup, perfect for a family meal.

For those who enjoy grilled specialties, Lechon Kawali (deep-fried pork belly) and crispy Pata (deep-fried pork knuckle) are popular choices. The crispy skin and tender meat are irresistible, often served with a soy-vinegar dipping sauce. These dishes are perfect for sharing among friends and family, embodying the communal spirit of Filipino dining.

Don't leave without trying Halo-Halo, a popular Filipino dessert. This refreshing mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream is a perfect way to cool down. You can find this iconic treat in many dessert shops and restaurants across Quezon City, offering a sweet conclusion to your culinary journey.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or people in authority as a sign of respect. Understanding these basic courtesies will enhance your interactions and make your stay more enjoyable.

Quezon City, like any major urban center, requires awareness of your surroundings. It's advisable to keep your valuables secure and be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded areas or on public transport. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911, and local police assistance can be reached through various numbers available online.

To navigate and enhance your trip, several apps are highly recommended. Grab is essential for ride-hailing and food delivery, making transportation and dining convenient. Google Maps is invaluable for navigation, helping you find your way around the city and estimate travel times. For communication, WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used for staying in touch with friends and family back home.

Checked in was unnecessarily slow, some friends arrived from airport after midnight for a short stay before all of us leaving in morning. Room safe was not functional, shower was visibly faulty, door security latch broken and deadlock wouldn’t close. The interior condition of the hotel has obviously deteriorated and maintenance is poor. Not clean, looks dirty.

Checkin was quick and painless - only needed to make a hold-deposit of 1500pesos, refundable upon checkout. Coffee making facility is OK. Strong shower, very good kind of toilettries, much appreciated. Balcony no view, only AC compressors. Noise from nearby rooms banging of doors/closets. Overall a good hotel if you dont mind the old look.

This was my second stay at La Breza, it is in a good location for what I wanted to do. Reception was fine, I did not book for breakfast as I knew its limitations. The room was large with very satisfactory beds. It was basic, there was no shelving for clothes as an example. The biggest issue was the weakness of the internet, several of the websites I tried to connect with would not do so as the internet was deemed by them to be unsafe, as indeed was my work computer which refused to connect.

The hotel room itself was nice. It was spacious and we were assigned in a corner room but upon entering the room it reeks of mold and dirt. Our feet turned black because of the dusty floor and carpet. The curtains which I’m sure was supposed to be white was grayish in color. The beddings was nice and sheets were clean which is the only good thing about our room. The furnitures are outdated and the paints were peeling. There were stains on the headboard, on the sofa and on the carpet. Though the bathroom was spacious, the tub drain was broken. We had to call for housekeeping three times because we cannot drain the water. It took them 30 minutes before they went up our room and drain the bathtub. There was some sort of slip proof rug on the bathtub and when we remove it, the underside was full of molds. Also the front desk personnel was extremely rude. We had a booking for 2 adults and 3 children, we were supposed to receive free breakfast for 5 people. I even showed them the confirmation at hotels.com but they only gave us breakfast for 2 adults which was fine because the food was not spectacular anyway. The kids were so excited to swim on the pool but it was very dirty. The water on the jacuzzi was opaque because of dirt and it smells horrible. This hotel should invest on housekeeping and maintenance. We’ve been through a lot of hotels and this is by far the worst and dirtiest hotel we’ve ever been. Their two bedroom suite was cheap, price-wise and in general.

An old classic hotel which I love so much because it has a big space and old style of warm accomodation style. I am a traveller and nothing beats old hosting and big spaces rooms. Thank you for maintaining an excellent service.

Superb service all around. Friendly staff, prompt house keeping and room service. Overall condition of the hotel is aging, the wear and tell over years.

I stayed there for 1 night. The room was not properly cleaned, the dirt on the carpet is noticeable. The smell is not pleasant. Some of the fixtures are broken. The 2 bedroom suite is smaller than the 1 bedroom suite. The wifi is useless.

La Breza is an okay hotel if you're looking for a spacious room. It's amenities are decent. Breakfast was okay. Nothing wow. They have parking but it's almost always full. Overall, I would recommend La Breza if you're looking for a spacious room.

Unique? I dont care about the uniqueness of the hotel property, the thing that i don't like is the hotel house rule, that my guests cannot stay longer. Only hotel that ive stay with a curfew.
