Your Travel Guide to San Vicente as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Vicente from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to San Vicente from Manila offers several convenient options tailored for Filipino travelers. For those prioritizing speed, flying into Laoag International Airport (LAO) is the quickest route. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. From Manila, expect airfares to range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets.

From Laoag Airport, you can hire a taxi or arrange a van transfer directly to San Vicente, a journey of about 1.5 to 2 hours. Alternatively, take a local bus from Laoag to Vigan City, and then a shorter ride to San Vicente. This option is more economical, with bus fares typically ranging from PHP 200 to PHP 400.

For a more budget-conscious approach, direct bus services from Metro Manila to Vigan City are readily available. Companies like Partas and Dominion Bus Lines offer comfortable trips that take approximately 8 to 10 hours. Fares usually fall between PHP 800 to PHP 1,200 for a one-way ticket. From Vigan, it's a short tricycle or jeepney ride to reach San Vicente and La Casa Ramirez.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, offering flexibility. The route from Manila involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) before connecting to the Jose Abad Santos Avenue and eventually the Ilocos Region. The total driving distance is around 400-450 kilometers, and the journey can take 8-9 hours without significant stops. Toll fees can add up to approximately PHP 800-1,000 for a one-way trip.

Best Time to Visit San Vicente

The ideal time for Filipino travelers to visit San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with lower chances of rain, making it perfect for exploring the historical sites and enjoying outdoor activities. The cool breeze from the West Philippine Sea adds to the pleasant atmosphere, especially in the evenings.

The peak tourist season usually falls between December and February, coinciding with the Christmas holidays and cooler temperatures. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a balance of good weather and fewer tourists, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, or April.

The wet season, from May to October, brings a higher possibility of rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged due to typhoons. While this period might offer lower rates for accommodations and flights, it could disrupt your planned itinerary. If you decide to travel during this time, it's wise to pack rain gear and stay updated on weather forecasts.

The distinct umami flavor of the bagoong is what gives this dish its signature taste. It’s a healthy and delicious representation of Ilocos cuisine.

Don't leave without trying **Bagnet**, crispy deep-fried pork belly that is a favorite among many Filipinos. The skin is incredibly crunchy, while the meat remains tender and juicy. It's often served with a side of dipping sauce, typically soy sauce with vinegar and chili. It’s a rich and satisfying dish that embodies the hearty flavors of the region.

For dessert or a sweet treat, sample **Calamay**, a sticky, sweet delicacy made from glutinous rice, coconut milk, and brown sugar. It has a unique chewy texture and is often served in a coconut shell. It’s a traditional sweet that offers a delightful end to any meal and is a popular pasalubong (souvenir) item. While the room seemed adequate and clean, there were a number of flies hovering us all night. Killed at least 4 and then there were more. The beddings were grey so that was also suspect as I’m used to clean white beddings.

The place is good but we had a problem with the staff. They accommodated other guests in the attic without our knowledge. They just called us to let us know. We rented the whole house and we didn't know there was a 3rd floor. I feel not comfortable. We offered to the staff that we we will pay for the 3rd floor just to make them move to the other place. We don't have any problem with the staff and the place is good. Im supposed to give a 5 star but because of what happened Im just giving 4 stars overall. Hoping this will help them make sure that they will not make double-book next time.

The staff tried her best to run the place and best service she could but there was no other person to assist her, till the next morning she had a helper to help with breakfast. The place was ghosted and the pool was not maintained. Breakfast was ok! I am not the kind of person that expects too much but at least i saw how the lady tried her best to assist. We ended up checking out early and only stayed a night out of 3 so we can move on. It could have been or maybe at one time a nicer more fun to stay and still recovering from the pandemic. The room was I expected, clean and very quite. The location is away from the hustle and bustle of the other locations.

This place exceeded my expectation. For the price I paid, pretty good. Place was newly renovated, clean and quiet. Beautiful balcony and room is big and cozy. New bathroom with bidet and hot shower. We would have stsyed longer.

Booked several rooms. No refrigerator in some rooms, no coffee maker. Electrical outlets not working. Noise from road was overwhelming. Staff not communicating - no warm hand reports between shifts, however, staff are nice and do whatever they can with what they have.
