Excellent boutique hotel every room has ocean view. Low key location and area. Nice restaurant and bar and pool all overlooking the ocean. Truly amazing facility! Small hotel left my valuables in my room never locked the door. Snorkeling in front of hotel at reef, has dive shop with dive sites 5-10 minute boat ride. I travel the world extensively this location is special as is the service and attention! You will not be disappointed.

Your Travel Guide to Mabini as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Mabini from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Mabini from Manila is a common route for many Filipino travelers. The most economical way is typically by bus. Buses depart regularly from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao or Pasay, heading towards Batangas City. The bus fare usually ranges from PHP 300 to PHP 500, and the journey takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic. From Batangas City, you will need to take another bus or a jeepney bound for Anilao or Mabini.

For those who prefer to fly, you can book flight tickets to airports closer to Batangas, though direct flights to Mabini are not available. The nearest major airport is Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From NAIA, you can take a bus directly to Batangas City or arrange for a private transfer. The total travel time, including the bus journey from Manila, can be around 4 to 5 hours.

Driving your own vehicle offers flexibility. From Metro Manila, you can take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the STAR Tollway towards Batangas City. From Batangas City, follow the signs leading to Mabini and Anilao. Toll fees can add up, so factor this into your budget. The drive itself is scenic, passing through various towns and landscapes, offering a different perspective of the region.

Best Time to Visit Mabini

Mabini, Batangas, experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, typically from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit for outdoor activities and beach enjoyment. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower chances of rain, making it ideal for diving, snorkeling, hiking Mount Gulugod Baboy, and simply relaxing by the coast.

The wet season, from May to October, brings more frequent rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, the weather can be unpredictable. If you plan to visit during these months, it's wise to pack rain gear and have backup indoor activities in mind. Despite the rain, diving conditions can still be good, especially in sheltered areas.

For those looking to avoid the largest crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as late April to May or late October to November. These periods often offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer tourists compared to the peak dry season. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Mabini offers its own unique charm and activities throughout the year.

Food and Dining Near Mabini — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Batangas is renowned for its culinary heritage, and Mabini offers opportunities to sample these local delights. A must-try is Batangas' famous Bulalo, a hearty soup made with beef shanks and bone marrow, slow-cooked until tender. Its rich, savory broth is incredibly comforting, especially after a day of exploring. Many local eateries and carinderias in Mabini will serve this classic dish.

Another local specialty is Goto Batangas, a distinct version of the Filipino rice porridge (lugaw) often enriched with beef innards and spices, giving it a robust flavor profile. It's a popular comfort food, especially during cooler evenings or after a long day. Look for small, local eateries that specialize in this dish for an authentic taste.

For seafood lovers, the proximity to the coast means fresh catches are readily available. Grilled fish, shrimp, and other shellfish are common offerings in restaurants around Mabini and Anilao. Enjoy them simply grilled with a squeeze of calamansi and soy sauce, or prepared in various other Filipino styles. The freshness of the seafood here is a significant draw for many visitors.

Don't forget to try the local sweets and delicacies. Batangas is also known for its Kapeng Barako, a strong and aromatic local coffee that provides a robust start to the day or a welcome pick-me-up. Pair it with local pastries or snacks for a true taste of the region. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the Mabini experience for any Filipino traveler.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Mabini

Filipino culture in Mabini, like much of Batangas, is characterized by warmth, hospitality, and a strong sense of community. Greetings are important; a simple "Magandang umaga/hapon/gabi" (Good morning/afternoon/evening) goes a long way. When visiting local establishments or interacting with residents, politeness and respect are highly valued. Understanding basic Tagalog phrases can enhance your interactions.

Safety in Mabini is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, as with any travel, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded places or during transit. It’s advisable to stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. For emergencies, know the local police and emergency hotline numbers, which can usually be obtained from your accommodation.

For a smoother trip, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around, especially if you're driving or exploring on foot. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter phrases you don't understand. For booking transportation or activities, the Traveloka app is indispensable, offering a wide range of options and easy booking processes. Nice resort and room (suite is large and good views with balcony etc). Staff are friendly and happy to help. Access to resort, there is a lot of stairs therefore not great for everyone (especially older or disabled persons). Disappointments are the breakfast is very basic, not so eco-friendly facilities in room. Basic tea / coffee (only has 3-in-1, no black coffee !!). Tagged as a 4 star but it's more like a 3 star with a very high price point. Spa massage was good and relaxing but the follow thru like hot tea/drinks that you typically receive in hotel spa was not there!! Overall relaxed stay but was expensive for this type of property/facilities!

Great weekend stay at the resort - facilities were okay, room very big and spacious, aircon was cold, nice size bathroom. Restaurant is nice and simple, food was good enough. Plants though were dry all around, staff said it’s due to the heat. I’m sure it’s nice when it gets lush and green. Could use a little bit more cleaning in the outside and surrounding areas.

We absolutely loved our stay at La Chevrerie! The owner met us at the gate even though we checked in super late and she was so kind and gracious. The staff was amazing the few days we were there- just so helpful and accommodating. We snorkeled from the resort and saw lots of coral, fish, and a turtle! We ate multiple great meals at the resort. The food was delicious. We also found an awesome Italian restaurant walking distance from the resort. I got a massage in the spa and we were able to make use of the little fitness room they have as well. Definitely recommend hiking from the hotel to Mt Gulugud. It was a steep climb up but the views were so worth it. You can also get a car to the top too if you'd rather skip the hike. We loved our time here and will definitely come back if we ever make it back to the area!

Customer service desk ends at 8 pm. Could not get my TV fixed till the next day. Food selection is very limited. Had to go to next door resort, Camp Netanya for lunch. Breakfast selection is limited and amount of food served is little. Pool service and waiters sevices are great.

Had a wonderful weekend stay - very relaxing and beautiful setting. Doesn't have a sand beach but can go down to the water on a small rocky area. Staff was very friendly and helpful with great service. The room was large, with a large private verandah overlooking the ocean. Bathroom was clean. AC worked perfectly. Goats were cute but the 2 puppies welcoming the guests were adorable!

Truly a world-class property. Clean, private, with large beautiful rooms. Love the balance of greenery/trees with the building/amenities especially the trees around the pool. Gave it enough shade to enjoy the pool even in the middle of the day. Convenient with being able to have food served within the resort and booking our snorkeling excursion was a breeze. Highly recommend.

La Chevrerie is a gorgeous small resort right on the ocean. The staff is absolutely lovely, the food is quite good, the drinks are very well-made, and the rooms and beds super comfortable. The highlight for us was the ring of palm trees around the pool which was on the edge of the ocean wall (stairs down to the beach). It made the property shaded at all times, which not all seem to be. It was lovely sitting on lounge chairs at the end of the day enjoying the breeze and a drink. The resort has a dive center, and they call boats in to take you out diving or snorkelling (which was really great - the reef is pretty healthy and fish abundant). I also had a massage and the therapist was very skilled. The food is quite good - the only downside was it's mostly not Filipino food, and we wanted to taste more dishes. The restaurant staff takes your orders while you're sitting by the pool then they call you when your meal is ready so you don't have to sit in the restaurant and wait. The resort creates such a nice atmosphere that residents have pleasant exchanges with each other.
