Overall.. a nice and cozy resort. Very quiet, no fuss. while not exactly brimming with luxuries, amenities and facilities are not bad at all for the price. If just looking for a quick escape from the city and don't mind the long drive, it's well worth it. If you plan to stay longer, splurge a bit and take the premier rooms.

Your Travel Guide to San Juan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Juan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to San Juan, Batangas, from Metro Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a coastal retreat. The most common method is by car, utilizing the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the STAR Tollway, with exits leading towards Batangas City and then San Juan. The drive typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic, and toll fees can range from PHP 300 to PHP 500 for a round trip, depending on your vehicle and exact route.

For those who prefer public transportation, bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Buendia (Pasay) and Cubao, offer routes to Batangas City or directly to San Juan. The bus fare usually ranges from PHP 200 to PHP 350 per person, one way, with travel times around 3 to 4 hours. From the San Juan town proper, local jeepneys and tricycles are readily available to take you to specific barangays like Hugom, where La Luz Beach Resort is located.

If you are coming from other major Philippine cities, the most efficient way to reach San Juan is by first flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From NAIA, you can then follow the bus or car travel options mentioned above. You can book flight tickets to Manila from various domestic airports, with prices varying based on the airline and booking time.

Best Time to Visit San Juan

San Juan, Batangas, generally enjoys a tropical climate, making it a year-round destination for beach lovers. However, the dry season, typically from November to April, is considered the most favorable time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and calmer seas, which are ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and other water activities.

The peak tourist season usually falls during the months of December to February, coinciding with the cooler weather in Luzon and the Christmas holidays. During this period, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a more relaxed atmosphere and potentially better rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or March to April.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can range from brief showers to more prolonged downpours. While this period might see fewer tourists, it's important to be prepared for potential weather disruptions. Despite the rain, San Juan remains beautiful, and you can still enjoy the beaches and local attractions, especially during breaks in the weather.

Food and Dining Near San Juan — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

San Juan, Batangas, is a culinary delight, offering a taste of authentic Filipino flavors with a coastal twist. One dish you absolutely must try is **Batangas Bulalo**. This hearty soup, made with beef shanks and bone marrow, is slow-cooked to tender perfection and is a comforting meal, especially after a day by the sea. Many local carinderias and restaurants in San Juan serve delicious versions of this classic.

Another local specialty is **Kinilaw na Tanigue**. Similar to ceviche, this dish features fresh, raw fish (often Spanish mackerel or tanigue) marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. The tangy and spicy flavors are incredibly refreshing, making it a perfect appetizer or light meal on a hot day. Look for this at seafood restaurants along the coast.

Don't leave San Juan without trying **Sinigang na Liempo**. While sinigang is a national favorite, Batangas offers its own take, often using tamarind for a sour broth and succulent pork belly. The balance of sourness and savory richness is deeply satisfying. For a sweet treat, sample **Halo-Halo**, a popular Filipino dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. You can find excellent versions at local eateries and dessert stalls throughout San Juan.

Upon booking I thought everything is fine all we need to do is to check in, but why is that we need to pay 1700 per head for buffet? And it's required upon check in why is that? What if we don't like to eat with buffet? What if our money is for check in only so that means were not able to check in? I just really don't understand.

It’s a nice place if you’re looking for a pet friendly beach resort. You just need to pay for P450 for overnight stay of your furry friend in your room. The room is comfortable but it lacks in amenities such as basic toiletries and complimentary coffee/water. For room facilities, though it is fully air condition, it doesn’t have television or even small refrigerator. For the food, it is a buffet style that you need to pay P1,710/head (mandatory) for lunch upon arrival, snack, dinner and breakfast. For me it’s pretty overpriced for the variety of food that they serve in the buffet. All in all, It’s still a good place to stay and I think my golden retriever enjoy there.

We had a great stay and the staff we're all friendly. They tried their best to give us an early check-in as we had an event to go to that afternoon. The food was satisfactory. Hope they could add more varities especially seafood dishes. Will come back again!

Secured beach resort. You need to prepare money to pay for the food. It’s not included in the booking. No toothbrush. No wifi. The beach is nice and the surroundings are clean.

Satisfied Customer here! Location: Malayo pero worth it Ambiance: Super relaxing Щ Summer vibes really. Price: Pricey but worth it you just do not know. Food: Great! Because it's mandatory, it's good to be nice and dame! Activities: Madame, you just need to enjoy.

Worth the long drive! A place where you can disconnect from the busy city of Manila. I just hope you consider bringing of own foods in the future.

The place was good and the beach front was very wide but the staff are not very accommodating and look like they are not in the mood to do their jobs. The facilities are also very run down and the rooms need renovation.

Check in process is smooth also, the room is ok also, because its not too far from the beach, the resort is not crowded .what we really do not want is that the mandatory meal package, well it's ok to pay if got what you are expecting for. Food is not that awesome, almost same taste.. utensils is not clean, most especially the cups ..and their water dispenser.. the room Is Ok , but their restaurant service is not that good..

Staff has no sense of customer service, except for one security guard. For a place that's by the beach, don't understand why fish they were serving was not fresh.

Upon booking I thought everything is fine all we need to do is to check in, but why is that we need to pay 1700 per head for buffet? And it's required upon check in why is that? What if we don't like to eat with buffet? What if our money is for check in only so that means were not able to check in? I just really don't understand.

Food was good and plentiful. The room was clean. Some of the light bulbs outside and inside the room weren't working.

The rooms are okay for its price. Don't expect a TV, a blow dryer or a water heater. It's good for sleeping and good if you really want to make most of the beach. They offer wifi but no one from our group.

The rooms are air conditioned and the design are those of bahay kubo. It is kind of decent already considering its price (compared to resorts beside it).

-3rd stay already we went there in 2012 and 2015 Place - many activities for kids - clean in general but messy layout of facilities - we assign to distant rooms that are a bit noisy because of the outdoor exterior but not busy Sleep That Food - and 1710 per head of 435 / meal it's not worth it. yung dinner pwede pa pero hindi yung snack and breakfast. it was convenient but a little over priced Beach - only a thunderstorm so much debris but swimmable Service - they were poor WiFi - it was difficult to call staff Summary it was ok for quick getaway but this place could be better.

The whole resort was really nice and the staff were very accommodating, however, during our stay the internet speed was really slow. The food in the buffet also needs improvement and more variety. All in all, we had a pleasant stay and we'll come back again. We hope to see some more improvements.
