A wonderful short stay. Maryvelle and all staff (and dogs!) were so friendly and welcoming. We had great recommendations for our stay. We also arranged breakfast and port transfer which was very helpful. A beautiful property with lovely gardens. Clear to us that Maryvelle cares very much about the style and upkeep of her place. Our room was spacious, cozy and comfortable with everything we needed. Would 100% recommend and hopefully return one day

Your Travel Guide to Dauis, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dauis, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers coming from Manila or other major cities like Cebu or Davao, the most convenient way to reach Dauis, Panglao Island is by air. Panglao International Airport (TAG) serves the island, with regular flights connecting it to major hubs. From Manila, flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly based on the airline, booking time, and season, but booking in advance through platforms like Traveloka can help you find competitive prices.

Once you land at Panglao International Airport, you have several options to get to Dauis. Taxis are readily available, offering a direct and comfortable ride. Alternatively, you can arrange for a private transfer through your hotel or a local tour operator. For the more adventurous and budget-conscious, renting a motorbike is also a popular option on Panglao Island, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Remember to book flight tickets well in advance to snag the best deals.

If you prefer a more scenic, albeit longer, journey, you could fly into Tagbilaran City first (though most flights now go directly to Panglao). From Tagbilaran City port, you can take a short ferry or boat ride to Panglao Island. However, with the direct flights to Panglao International Airport, this route is less common for tourists now. Regardless of your chosen method, planning your transportation ahead of time will ensure a smoother arrival in Dauis.

Best Time to Visit Dauis, Panglao Island

The Philippines generally experiences a tropical climate, and Panglao Island is no exception. The best time to visit Dauis, Panglao Island, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for beach activities, island hopping, and exploring the natural beauty of Bohol.

The peak tourist season usually falls between December and February, coinciding with the Christmas holidays and cooler weather in other parts of the country. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of March to May. The period from June to November generally marks the wet season, with a higher chance of typhoons and heavy rains, though these can sometimes be short-lived.

Food and Dining Near Dauis, Panglao Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Bohol offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects its rich agricultural and marine resources. When you're in Dauis, make sure to try Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that is perfect for the tropical climate. You can find excellent Kinilaw in local eateries and restaurants across Panglao Island.

Another must-try is Peanut Kisses, a famous Boholano delicacy. These are crunchy, heart-shaped cookies made from peanut butter, flour, and eggs, baked until golden brown. They make for a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) and a delightful snack with coffee. Many local shops and even the Bohol Bee Farm sell these delicious treats.

For seafood lovers, grilled fresh catch is a staple. Panglao Island, being surrounded by water, offers an abundance of seafood. Whether it's grilled fish, squid, or prawns, the simplicity of preparation often highlights the freshness of the ingredients. Look for local carinderias or beachfront restaurants that showcase their daily catch. Don't forget to try the local Boholano dishes like Ube Halaya, a sweet purple yam dessert, and SUTUKIL (Sugba, Tula, Kilaw), a cooking method where you choose your seafood and have it grilled, stewed, or prepared as kinilaw.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dauis, Panglao Island

Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and Boholanos are no exception. When interacting with locals in Dauis and Panglao Island, always be respectful of their customs. A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders goes a long way. Dress modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas. Understanding and appreciating the local culture will enrich your travel experience.

Safety is generally good in Panglao Island, but it's always wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. It's also advisable to drink bottled water to avoid any stomach issues. For emergencies, know the local police and hospital contact numbers.

For your convenience, consider downloading a few essential apps before your trip. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. Ride-hailing apps might be available, though local transport options like tricycles and habal-habal (motorcycle taxis) are common. A translation app can be helpful if you plan to interact extensively with locals who may not speak fluent English, though English is widely understood in tourist areas. Lastly, a weather app will keep you updated on any changes in the tropical climate.

When I got there, I had to park my car outside the gated property on a muddy road because the owner had 5 dogs. Also, the wifi wasn't working, I couldn't close the windows all the way and there was a mosquito net over the bed. The other thing is this property stated beach access. The beach was a 5 minute walk down the road

Upon checking we were given the worst room with no view, no TV, no wifi and the safe did not work. The bathroom was pretty much disfunctional and the free breakfasts were minimal at best, had to pay extra for a cup of real coffee instead of a packet of nescafe. Only redeeming feature was the friendly and accommodating staff.

This cozy, quiet, place is run by an amazingly, lovely, couple. The grounds are immaculate and the pool was perfect. This isn't a resort to hang out at all day. My girlfriend and I used La Parnela as a jumping point to be out and about. The food here is excellent, especially the eggplant for breakfast. The place does have some dogs who are well trained. So if you do not like dogs, you may want to go elsewhere. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a comfortable, clean, quiet, place to relax between excursions.

We weren't blessed by the weather during our stay but our host tried her best to make us feel at home. The hotel was quiet and unfortunately the food service limited because of this. sometimes we thought we were invading the owners personal space asking for drinks or snacks. The swimming pool is clean as well as the rooms which are in good condition. The air conditioning isn't new and noisy, maybe worth a replacement soon. Helpful with tour services and suggestions. The beachfront is around 5 minutes walk away down a dirt road. There are a lot of dogs in and around the property that are quite noisy throughout the day and night, this may bother some but wasn't too much of an issue for us. This little resort that has a nice potential.

This hotel is a bit out of the way but if you are a bit adventurous and want to rent a scooter than it's fine as the location is remote and the road is in bad condition! The hotel manager is very friendly but the service is not that good! It's not that it's bad but it goes into the "almost factor" category! It's just fun and funny! The point is relax and meet people! And so we did!

I would like to be able to give this hotel 3 stars because of the very dedicated owner, who really tries hard to look after her guests. There are a few issues however. For us, the biggest problem is the fact that I don't think the pictures and description online gives a realistic picture of La Pernela. I distinctly got the impression that there would be nice views, when in fact it is sorrounded by tall trees and vegetation. There is an area across from the hotel where you can kinda watch the sunset, but again, it's blocked by vegetation and there are only 2 seats. One of the key attractions of the resort is the peace and quiet, but the resort dogs and those in the area bark at all times of the night, so it's not possible to get a good sleep. While the food was nice, I found breakfast to be a bit lacking. There wasn't even fruit juice with breakfast. Just eggs/toast and tea/coffee. It was nice that they provided complimentary drinking water, but we found a cockroach in our kettle. Our bathroom flooded anytime we had a shower and the temperature gauge was so high up that I couldn't reach it and had to get my husband to come adjust the temperature everytime I showered.

Very nice hotel and great service. Staff were friendly and helpful, always a smile and hello which costs nothing but adds so much to the feeling that the people here care about you. One of the great physical local actions in this area with its own private lovely large beach very quiet when I visited unlike the public beaches close by. Wonderful room, quiet and clean and lovely soft bed made sleep easy. Had fun with amenities here and swimming with my 3yr old daughter who turned 4yrs old during the stay and was surprised with a cake by the staff at dinner.

Stayed here for 3 nights, but extended it to 5 nights. It is a very remote and quite place, perfect for people who like to travel around Bohol and return to a soothing place at the end of the day. This is not for people who only stay at the resort all day. La Pernala compliments your day when you return from exploring the vast sites to see in Bohol. Every single person on La Pernala were incredibly welcoming and helpful to our every needs. Be it book us a motorbike, give us advice or just chat in general. They were so sweet to us! And the food is the best we have had in the Philippines - it's a must try! When we left Bohol early in the morning with the first boat, the staff and the manager got out of bed to say goodbye and see us off. Absolutely amazing!

The resort was clean and well kept. Small I think about 15 rooms. Close to ocean access. Bar close as well. They will serve meals with some notice. Staff and owners were very nice and hospitable. Will be staying here again.

Mary the owner was on the property and she was view helpful with anything I needed . The grounds where well maintained and Tom’s very clean , the only issue I had it stated on Hotels .com it was beach front but sadly to say it wasn’t, but I made the best out of it because the place was quiet and that’s what I was looking for as well . Stood there 2 days then went to another place that was beach front .
