Your Travel Guide to Dauis, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Dauis, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila or other major Philippine cities, the most convenient way to reach Dauis, Panglao Island is by air. Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG) is the primary gateway. Several airlines operate daily flights from Manila to Tagbilaran, with fares typically ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

From Tagbilaran City, which is about a 20-30 minute drive from Dauis, you can take a taxi or a tricycle. Taxis are readily available and will cost around PHP 300-400. Tricycles are a more budget-friendly option, costing about PHP 150-200. If you are arriving at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport directly, it's a shorter ride to Dauis, typically around 15-20 minutes by taxi, costing approximately PHP 250-350.

Alternatively, for a more adventurous and budget-conscious journey, you can opt for a ferry from Cebu City to Tagbilaran City. Ferry tickets usually range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500, and the trip takes about 2 hours. From the Tagbilaran seaport, you would then take a taxi or tricycle to Dauis, similar to arriving from the airport. This option is great if you are already in Cebu or prefer sea travel.

Best Time to Visit Dauis, Panglao Island

The best time to visit Dauis, Panglao Island, and Bohol in general, is during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for enjoying the island's beaches and water activities. The weather is generally pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for outdoor exploration.

The peak tourist season falls between December and February, and again during the Holy Week in March or April. During these periods, expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights. If you prefer a more tranquil experience and potentially better deals, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, or May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy but often short-lived. While there's a higher chance of rain, this period also sees fewer tourists and lower prices. If you don't mind the possibility of occasional showers and are looking for a more relaxed and economical trip, the wet season can still be a good time to visit, as many attractions remain accessible.

Food and Dining Near Dauis, Panglao Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Bohol, particularly on Panglao Island, you must try Kinilaw na Tanigue. This is the Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh tanigue (Spanish mackerel) is "cooked" in vinegar, often with ginger, onions, chili, and calamansi. It's a refreshing appetizer or light meal, perfect for the tropical climate, and you can find excellent versions at local eateries and restaurants across Dauis and Panglao.

Another local delicacy to savor is Peanut Kisses. These are small, heart-shaped cookies made from a mixture of flour, eggs, sugar, and, of course, ground peanuts. They are crunchy and subtly sweet, making them a popular pasalubong (souvenir). Many local bakeries and souvenir shops sell these treats, so keep an eye out for them as you explore.

For a more substantial meal, try Grilled Liempo. This is a Filipino favorite featuring thick slices of pork belly marinated and grilled to perfection, often served with a side of soy sauce and calamansi dip. The smoky flavor and tender texture of the grilled pork make it a satisfying dish. Many carinderias and restaurants in Bohol offer this classic Filipino barbecue.

Don't leave Bohol without trying Calamay. This is a sweet, sticky delicacy made from glutinous rice, coconut milk, and brown sugar, traditionally served in a half-coconut shell. It has a rich, caramel-like flavor and a chewy texture. It's a unique dessert or snack that represents the local culinary heritage and is widely available in markets and souvenir shops.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Dauis, Panglao Island

Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and Boholanos are no exception. When interacting with locals, always be respectful, use polite language ("po" and "opo"), and greet them warmly. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service. Understanding and respecting local customs will enhance your interactions and overall travel experience.

Safety is generally good in Dauis and Panglao Island, but it's always wise to take standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers for your accommodation and local transport services readily available.

When traveling, having essential apps on your smartphone can be very useful. Consider downloading a reliable map application like Google Maps for navigation, a translation app if you plan to interact with non-English speakers, and a ride-hailing app if available in the area for convenient transport. For booking accommodations and activities, Traveloka is an indispensable tool.

It's also beneficial to have a weather app to stay updated on the forecast, especially during the rainy season. For managing your finances, a mobile banking app or e-wallet app like GCash or Maya can be very convenient for payments and transfers. These apps can streamline your trip and help you stay organized and connected throughout your stay in Bohol.
