A hotel with happy memories
My wife and I have visited Las Flores on several occasions over the last five years when staying with family in Cebu City, which is about 1.5 hours drive away.. The small private beach-front hotel set within gardens and with its own pool has great sea views including the Islands of Camotes and is a real retreat from the traffic-snarled and sadly polluted surrounds of parts of Cebu City. The decor as well as the menu are Mediterranean inspired (we ourselves live permanently in southern Spain) and all the various en-suite rooms are spacious and comfortable. With meals freshly prepared and well presented, the well-trained professional yet friendly staff help make Las Flores what it is: a welcoming and reasonably priced place to relax while at the time offering the perfect location to explore the North of Cebu and nearby islands. It´s certainly a find we treasure and regularly return to.

Honoured family guests
It was an honour to be part of the vision that Ian and Virginia have created in building Las Flores as both a beautiful guesthouse, and as a family business that gives local people excellent opportunities in the developing tourism business. There is a sense of the Raffles hotel, on a much smaller scale, in the opulence of the architecture and the rooms. Extensive use of timber, paintings, high ceilings and soft furnishings create a mood of intimacy and escapism. Our room was a romantic sanctuary, one for reading books, daydreaming and smiling. The beach is best admired from a kayak that they are happy to lend for a couple of hours, and is the usual dark beach with small homes dotted along its length, so more for viewing than walking or swimming. The hotel pool is perfect for dipping and lounging, providing a lovely relaxing view over the ocean. Breakfast was elegantly composed and served, a treat. I was fortunate to play their piano, not easily maintained in the tropics, but part of the guest lounge that enables you to socialise with others. Ian and Virginia are particularly welcoming, full of information and interest. We were invited to their birthday dinner, and you are struck by their own love story that is an inspiration to others.

A Secret Cebu Oasis of Calm
It's hard to know where to start with the praise - should I focus on the wonderful calm, homely atmosphere that Las Flores swallows you into when you step out of the car; or the delicious food (we are slowly working our way thru the menu!) that is enjoyed at the rear of the House, sitting on the open verandah with an uninterrupted sea view; or is it the friendly welcome from the hosts Ian & Virginia that I should rave about? ...or should I keep it all to myself so we don't lose this oasis of calm that we've found on an island that has more than it's fair share of noisy, large hotels that don't come close to Las Flores in style, service and comfort! Rare that you find somewhere you can't fault. Looking forward to the next lamb steak, glass (or two) of wine and some good cheese! ...and Ian will entice you to enjoy a little after dinner drink, another little taster of this or that... impossible to leave the table hungry!! ...and once you're done, fall into a Laura Ashley reminiscent bedroom, for the quietest night's sleep I've experienced on Cebu. About 2 hours out of the City, in a fantastic location to experience some of the islands at the Northern end of Cebu - Bantayan, Malapascua, Camotes and more. Perfection.

Relaxing and the feeling of being in a second hoome
I stayed at Las Flores from January 23rd to the 26th. It was one of three hotels I have stayed at in Cebu. It was clearly my best choice. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and seemed to relish in treating guests like friends. It offered more of a homey felling as opposed to the impersonal feeling of a big chain hotel. Built in a Mediterranean style it was very clean and structurally sound. It was designed by retired British banker and hotelier Ian (who resembles the late British Actor Ian Richardson) and wife Virginia to be a small hotel, which doesn’t disappoint with its high European ceilings and spacious interior. Even though I was on my own (I do a lot of writing while on vacation), I never felt lonely since the atmosphere of limited guests seemed to foster camaraderie. The food was more than satisfactory and was served to guests on a porch offering an inspiring view of the ocean. I would strongly recommend this hotel as romantic yet family friendly oasis in Cebu.

private and quaint B&B experience
We stayed at Las Flores for a week recently, and had a wonderful experience. We were the only guests there most nights, so we really felt as if we were staying in a private home with friends and a private chef. The rooms were very large and clean. Ian and Virginia were very attentive hosts. MM, Myrna and Ruth took wonderful care of the room and the meals. Breakfast was included in the price, and was very filling. We ate all our dinners there also, and Myrna and MM cooked/served delicious food, presented with excellence. There were so many items from which to choose, but the salmon, marlin and grilled mango with ice cream were some of our favorites and were very reasonably priced. One afternoon, they arranged for a local fisherman to take us to an empty beach where we snorkeled. We also used the kayak for a couple of hours, and spent time in the lounge area reading and playing games. We walked in to town on separate occasions and had meals a some local restaurants. One afternoon, Virginia arranged for a local lady to come to the hotel and she gave me a manicure, pedicure and haircut, and did a wonderful job. (Ask for Doris!) Overall, it was fantastic, and we would recommend it. One note of caution: we paid the driver of the hired car that they provided and didn't realize that they paid him also. Make sure that you know ahead of time who you have to pay yourself and what they will be paying for you!!
