The journey from the airport to Corong-Corong takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes by land transport. For those coming from other parts of the Philippines, it's advisable to book flight tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons, to secure better fares.

Alternatively, you can often store your luggage at the reception after checking out, allowing you to continue your day in El Nido without your bags.

Your Travel Guide to El Nido as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to El Nido from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach El Nido from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Flights typically land at Lio Airport (ENI) in El Nido. Several airlines operate routes to El Nido, and booking your book flight tickets in advance can help you find competitive fares, which can range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 8,000 or more, depending on the season and booking time.

Alternatively, you can fly into Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS), which is further south in Palawan. From Puerto Princesa, you can take a van or bus to El Nido. This journey takes approximately 5 to 6 hours and van fares usually range from PHP 600 to PHP 900 per person. This option is often more budget-friendly if you find cheaper flights to Puerto Princesa.

For the adventurous and budget-conscious traveler, overland travel is also an option, though significantly longer. From Manila, you can take a bus to El Nido, which involves multiple transfers and can take over 24 hours. This is a less common choice for most travelers due to the extensive travel time involved.

Best Time to Visit El Nido

The dry season, from November to May, is generally considered the best time to visit El Nido. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calm seas, which are ideal for island hopping, swimming, and other water activities. The peak tourist season falls between December and April, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours.

The shoulder months, such as November and May, can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere and are looking for potentially better deals, these periods are worth considering. The weather is still generally good, with a lower chance of heavy rainfall.

The wet season runs from June to October. While this period can bring occasional rain showers and rougher seas, it also means fewer tourists and lower prices. If your travel dates are fixed during these months, don't let the rain deter you entirely, as showers are often brief, and you can still enjoy many of El Nido's attractions. Always check weather forecasts before and during your trip.

Food and Dining Near El Nido — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is diverse and delicious, and El Nido offers plenty of opportunities to savor local flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is fresh grilled seafood. El Nido is a coastal town, so expect an abundance of freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns, often grilled to perfection and served with rice and soy sauce-based dipping sauce. Many beachfront restaurants offer this.

Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, is another local specialty worth seeking out. Made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, it's a refreshing and tangy dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. You'll find variations of kinilaw in many local eateries and even on some tour packages.

For a taste of home-style Filipino cooking, look for restaurants serving Adobo, a national dish of meat braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. While available everywhere in the Philippines, trying it in El Nido offers a chance to taste regional variations. Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, often made with tamarind broth and your choice of meat or seafood, is also a comforting and popular choice.

Don't forget to try local snacks and desserts. Halo-halo, a popular Filipino mixed-dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and jellies, is a perfect way to cool down. Freshly made fruit shakes, using local fruits like mangoes and coconuts, are also widely available and incredibly refreshing.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for El Nido

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting and a smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when speaking to older individuals or those in authority. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service.

El Nido is generally a safe place for tourists. However, it's always wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. For any emergencies, the local police can be reached at their station in town.

When it comes to essential apps, having a reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigation, especially for finding your way around El Nido town and identifying points of interest. A weather app is also highly recommended to stay updated on potential rain showers, which can affect island-hopping schedules. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used.

Consider downloading a currency converter app if you plan to exchange money or want to quickly calculate prices. Finally, having the Traveloka app on your phone is essential for managing your bookings, checking flight statuses, and discovering local attractions and activities you might want to book attraction tours for.

Everything was great, only downside was our room had a very strong mothball scent, and we couldn’t find where it was coming from. I have bad asthma and it caused a flare up whenever I was in the room.

This is small and gorgeous. If you want to hang out and relax this is the place to be. The staff are fabulous. As soon as we pushed our luggage out of the door of our accommodation staff nearby rushed over to take it for us; they are attentive and very helpful. The pool is cooler than normal Philippines pools - we found this to be better because it was easier to cool down and relax in the heat again. No kids running around was a big bonus. The air con in the chalets work well once you have worked them out. Showers are great and we are planning to come back. Overall this is a mini paradise for adults.

Beautiful small resort with wonderful friendly staff. The team made every extra effort to make our stay special including noticing my wife’s birthday during the stay and dressing the room for her. The sunsets are beautiful, the rooms nicely appointed with a spacious outdoor area. We enjoyed the food and drinks and prices are reasonable for both. This is a real treat vacation spot for a few days in El Nido.

Everything was great, only downside was our room had a very strong mothball scent, and we couldn’t find where it was coming from. I have bad asthma and it caused a flare up whenever I was in the room.

Due to Typhoon Tino we did not get a chance to stay at Last Frontier Beach Resort. They were generous to refund in full our hotel reservation and welcomed us back in the future. We will 100% book with Last Frontier Beach Resort again. Thank you so much for the great customer service!

Everything was top of the line. The hotel beach was steps away. we booked tours through the hotel and the tour people knocked on our room door in the morning to take us to the beach right in the front to the boats. So awesome. The massage therapist came to our room to do the massages. Just wonderful experience and the staff was so welcoming and iust of this world in hospitality.

Shout out to Vanessa. She is very knowledgeable. The staff took really care of us esp when I got sick. They booked our private tour the only thing we did no know the private tour boats are very small. I highly recommend this place.
