Your Travel Guide to Los Baños as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Los Baños from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Los Baños from Metro Manila is quite straightforward. Numerous bus companies operate routes from various terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao, Pasay, and Buendia, heading directly to Los Baños. The bus fare typically ranges from PHP 150 to PHP 250, and the travel time is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending heavily on traffic conditions.

For travelers coming from other major Philippine cities, the most common entry point is Manila. You would first need to book flight tickets to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). From NAIA, you can take a taxi or a shuttle service to one of the bus terminals in Metro Manila that serve the Los Baños route. This multi-modal approach ensures accessibility from across the archipelago.

Alternatively, if you prefer the convenience of driving, Los Baños is accessible via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway). The route is well-signposted, making it a manageable drive for those with their own vehicles. Having your own car offers flexibility in exploring Los Baños and its surrounding areas at your own pace.

Best Time to Visit Los Baños

Los Baños experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season from November to April and the wet season from May to October. The dry season generally offers sunnier days, making it ideal for outdoor activities like visiting waterfalls and parks. Temperatures during this period are warm, averaging around 28-30°C.

The wet season brings occasional heavy rainfall, which can be refreshing and enhance the lushness of the surrounding environment. While rain showers are common, they often occur in the afternoon, leaving mornings clear for exploration. For Filipino travelers looking for pleasant weather for outdoor adventures, the months of December to February are often considered optimal, offering a balance of warmth and lower humidity.

Food and Dining Near Los Baños — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Los Baños, being in Laguna, offers a taste of Southern Tagalog cuisine. A must-try is Buko Pie, a sweet delicacy made from young coconut meat baked in a flaky crust. You can find excellent versions of this dessert in local bakeries and pasalubong centers throughout the town, perfect for sharing with family and friends.

Another local favorite is Puto Bumbong, a purple rice cake steamed in bamboo tubes and traditionally served with butter, grated coconut, and muscovado sugar. While often associated with Christmas, you can sometimes find it in local markets. Its unique texture and sweet, slightly savory flavor make it a delightful snack.

For a more substantial meal, try La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo but popular nationwide. It features a rich broth, pork, and various toppings. You can find many eateries in Los Baños serving this comforting dish. Also, take advantage of this on Kare-Kare, a rich stew made with oxtail or tripe in a thick peanut sauce, typically served with bagoong (shrimp paste).

Exploring the local eateries and carinderias in Los Baños will give you an authentic taste of Filipino flavors. From simple yet delicious silog meals to more elaborate regional specialties, the culinary scene here is diverse and satisfying for any Filipino palate.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Los Baños

Los Baños is known for its friendly and community-oriented culture. Filipinos are generally hospitable, and politeness is highly valued. When interacting with locals, a simple "po" and "opo" (yes, respectfully) goes a long way. Respecting local customs, especially when visiting religious sites, is important.

Safety in Los Baños is generally good, but as with any travel, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables secure and avoid displaying them openly, especially in crowded areas like the public market. For emergencies, local police can be reached at their station, and it's always a good idea to have the hotel's contact number handy.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for booking transport, though tricycles are the primary mode of local transport. A translation app might be helpful if you encounter dialects you're unfamiliar with, though English is widely understood.

Having a reliable communication app like WhatsApp or Messenger is also practical for staying in touch with family back home or coordinating with travel companions. These tools can enhance your experience and provide peace of mind during your stay in Los Baños.

The superior family room is spacious with basic toiletries and small fridge, they give complimentary drinks and Japanese cake, but there's no kettle and some complimentary tea or coffee. The bathroom needs serious upgrading, it is outdated the onsen experience because of the small pool inside the superior family room is convenient specially if you have little ones. Breakfast was not buffet and only adult guest gets complimentary plated breakfast as well as bath towels, for kids you have to pay P50 surcharge per towel. The fixtures in the bathroom is so outdated, AC in room Fuji is not cold, you need to use electric fan, bedsheets and blanket is so thin but they have comfortable pillows. They lent us kimonos because I asked for it, it would be nice if they will automatically provide it for the guest.

I really have to mention the hospitality of all of their personnel. Our request were promptly and excellently accommodated. Kudos! The amenities are very nice. We enjoyed their clean hot and cold pool as soon as we arrived and ordered great food at around 11pm. It's just so nice that they can still serve food until 12am. We also loved the free breakfast! We had a Superior Room (Take). If you have luggages, you will not worry about where to place them as the room is really spacious. The room is clean and has all we need to enjoy a good night stay. They have a huge cabinet and a lot of drawers. We also appreciate the numerous power outlets. Most importantly, we enjoyed the Onsen inside our room. We love privacy and we got it excellently. The place is quiet and has that ancient Japanese feel. Thank you for making us feel really comfortable. Cheers!

The hotel is clean and staffs are so helpful and friendly. Overall, it is good place for relaxing and wind down. Only one suggestion, prepare milk stock all the time. Can’t survive without it 😊😊

Pleasant stay. Great soak everyday included in the price. Nice mixture of food choices at the restaurant. Only negative would be road noise especially early in the morning. Earplugs!

Staff was very accommodating! We had to check in late but when we arrived, all went smoothly! Only one of us got to try the onsen but she had a very good experience with that, too. If you’re looking to get a quick getaway from the retro, this is definitely a good option to go with.

Cheers!

There is nothing near by, you need to have own transport to be there or else will get stuck at here. During my stay is hitting by typhoon, even though no flood on this hotel but been isolated because of flood. Traffic condition is very bad when going to town

The hotel needs to hire an interior designer -it was over-decorated. Everything else was just ok- the friendly and respectful staff, the food, the big, clean rooms, the hot bath right in the hotel's premises.
